View Full Version : Hairtype me...

Why, you may ask, would someone who's been on this site literally for years need a hairtyping?

a. For fun.
b. To start a new thread.
c. Because my hairtype has definitely changed.

I have light layering in my hair now and for a long time I've noticed it's much wavier than it was (formerly 1a/b). Would you say I'm a 1c now? Does that sound about right? Weirdly, the 1s have always confused me.

This is air-dried, then brushed lightly.

Thanks!

I think 1b/1c is about right. :)

Now GG, you know we need to see it washed and then dried as is - no touching of any kind - to really see your hair type.

You shouldn't brush at all for a proper hair typing, but in its current appearance I would say 1b/1c.

You know, I've never done that because I always felt I was trying to "cheat" some waves in there and didn't want to be deluding myself! I have a wash coming up...I will do absolutely nothing to it and take a pic...sigh...

hold on a second; I have to make popcorn for the wait

LOL!!!! It takes a couple of hours...oh heck. I'll go wash now. I'm done with my work for the day and the kids want to play a little Wii so there's no time like the present. You all are right, I need to no-touchy for an accurate typing. Thanks for the replies, everyone!

Okay, folks, drumroll please... :p (thumbnails are clickable)

Air dried, not having touched it, basically...no finger combing when wet, no anything:

Another picture, might be better, different room/lighting:

After dragging fingers through it (OMG, the hair cleavage! Didn't get at that part w/my fingers):

^ Oh, ha ha, and you can see my son's hair, sort of, in pic #2. He's a 1a/bMiii. :p

Wow it is much more wavy now! I would say 1c/2a?(Not sure though, it's always tricky! I can't even hairtype myself too well! Not to mention the 2s have always given me a hard time... :)) )

I'd go with 1c/2a too.

I'd say ... hmmm .. 1b/c?

Thanks everyone...yep, it's definitely more wavy when I don't do anything at all to it. (Usually, I run a comb through it or at least my fingers when it's wet.)

I...I think I'm a...wavy! And only barely wavy, but...a wavy! I'm so excited. I'm thrilled with this change.

I think I may split the various differences and go with...1c. I am very happy about this. :) I don't know why I haven't really noticed this until more recently in my hair's history.

I would say at least 1c....though I would lean towards a solid 2a IMO. My sweetheart is a 1c, with the two defined waves in his hair, and your hair is much wavier.

I'd go 1c/2a too. :)

Dunno, on my computer the pictures are all showing up in a thumbnail sort of size, both here and on photobucket. So I can barely see anything.

To me, 1c hair at shoulder would have a few S waves with a long wavelength. A few might be as many as 3 or 4, but it's probably more like 2. 1b at shoulder might not even have a visible wave. 2a at shoulder I'd expect to have a lot of wavelengths showing, maybe in excess of 5 or 6.

If you expand those out to BSL or waistish, I'd expect 1c hair to have an easily countable number of wavelenths, even if you're pretty bad at counting for an adult. (if you're a knitter, you probably know just how hard it can be to count to 10...) 1b, I'd expect to have no more than 3 visible waves at waist length. And 2a unless you're super good at counting, I'd expect you to feel vaguely dumb trying to count wavelengths at BSL or waist. 2b the obvious answer should be LOTS, and 2c you're less worried about how many waves and a lot more about "hey, are those spirally bits hiding in the waves?"

Now I agree with 1c/2a.

I've noticed that most of the "hairtype me" threads are started by type 2s, or at least the consensus ends up being that the poster is somewhere in the 2 range. It's probably the trickiest type to recognize on oneself, especially when one is prone to delusions as to one's natural hair texture (I speak from experience here).

Perhaps the rule should be, "if you are beginning to have doubts about your hair type, you are a 2-something."

1C/2A for sure.

LOL, awesome, we should add this to Fia's hairtyping system. :D
