Experimentation is fun :)

My hair was tangled this morning, and just generally ick (conditioner from last night's cowash didn't appear to be fully rinsed out - ugh), so I will be redoing this with nice, fresh hair.

I'm gonna try Leopsie's method of holding the ends and rolling the hair next time. I want a fuller bun.

It is nice! I still haven't managed to make one, it tangles into a huge mess about half way up :justy:

I do leopsies way of tucking the ends in. It results in a beautiful, full bun. It also gives gorgeous curls the next morning!

I know what you mean! That kept happening to me too. It was driving me insane, and I was so worried about breaking cuticles off, I gave up.

Yeah, I got these pretty decent waves;

Which is not bad considering my hair was a tangled, dry mess with build up galore (I think I need to clarify, dammit :() before I done the bun!

Thanks hun! The hairpins are lethal, though! I have to be very gentle taking them out to avoid taking hairs out with 'em too.

I kind of cheated by putting it in a pony holder first. last time I tried without one and it jsut made a huge mess.

That looks soo lovely i can never get mine to look right, it looks like its eating my head and it doesn't feel secure when i do the fully rolled one.

Thank you! I've given up with sock-buns because they looks silly on me and they're so difficult to do properly, especially with curls. I'll revisit them when my hair's longer :)

It's meant to look like its eating your head, that's the idea!!
You need to use Amish pins or the U shaped ones if your hair can stand them, mine can't and once you have rolled, pin the base all the way round, my hairs thick and it holds just well, it feels wobbly but it does hold, try it too on damp hair, as the hair dries, the bun gets tighter!

Curly I love you sock bun looks great and I like how you have decorated it!
Here's mine a rolled one, I prefer these to the pull your hair through malarkey!

Bloody gorgeous. I wish mine looked big like this instead of puny :(

Oh my gosh! Jojo, your sock bun is gorgeous!!! I haven't tried one yet, but with thin hair and not yet APL, I'm not hoping for much. I'm finally able to make a little pineapple on my head to go to sleep. Hubby hasn't said anything about it yet, but I think he's just learned to go with the flow. lol!

I adore sock buns but I have not been able to manage to actually make one myself.

I love the sock bun at the pins! :)
And I agree, it's so irritating when a conditioner turns out to be still in my hair in the morning after washing... :p
