Wow! This is a little belated. We're sorry about that. On the bright side, that means there will be a new one pretty soon, too.

For this month, let's have a good time with cage braids! :D

Just a little late

Here is a You Tube tutorial:

Personally, I'd be sure my hair was detangled first before tackling this!

A little late but totally fine with it. :) I love this month's hairstyle. I had no idea how to do a cage braid... until now! Thanks for the youtube tutorial, Madora!

I am definitely trying this today!
I love the Hairstyle of the month!!! Keeps me adventurous!

Argh. I have yet to succeed at this style... but hey, now I have another reason to practice.

This one looks like fun! Maybe I'll give it a try if I get bored at work tonight. I want to practice a bit since it looks like a great style to wear out for the husband's birthday on the 30!

Hmm. might have to clip in my extensions again just so I can try it, I absolutely love it!

I tried it, but well I think it would look better on hair a little bit lighter than mine. And longer. :D But it was really fun to do! I'll definitely try it more often.

Hmm, mine kinda screwed up towards the bottom, as I didn't feel like I had enough hair to warrant flipping it over the shoulder but all in all I kinda like it!

Well, I tried it... twice. I love the look of this braid on others, but I must be doing something wrong as it just gives me the look of a draped French braid. I should stick with the draped French since it's less fussy (not worrying about only taking hair from the hairline).
Plus, dark hair... :( Braids just don't show up well.

Beautiful braiding, DarkCurls. Yes, dark hair is a holy trial when it comes to photography!

Thank you, Madora. :D Now would be a good time to say I think your (dark!) hair looks beautiful in braids. :p Grass is always greener, I guess.

I tried it yesterday - does anyone else find that theirs looks more "cage-y" at the top and like a regular French braid at the bottom? More practice is definitely required. :p

My attempt was pretty terrible. The slight "drape" effect of the strands is hard to do. I'll give it a go again, maybe with dampened hair. This style kills my muscles.

For that, people can also employ the cage braid as a partial-up hairstyle versus all-up, like this (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/136/349936964_a2fcb51f77.jpg) or this (http://farm2.staticflickr.com/1427/5137893900_0c18ccf416_z.jpg), where it doesn't involve all the hair in the end result, and sections are added to the braid at later intervals instead of every time a strand is crossed.

Oooh, cage braids look difficult. I think I'll avoid it for now; I suck at subtle nice draping stuff, and if I get annoyed enough I might just strangle someone. (I have a cold and I'm totally b*tchy at the moment) :p But they're SO pretty... :(

ooohh i love doing this style! i always thought it was called a mermaid braid though, but i'll try those other ways that Gumball posted as well.

i'll be back with pictures later :D.

This hairstyle gave me a crick in the neck, lol. It's a bit fiddly to have to keep doing everything loosely, and towards the end the braid likes to kinda list to one side, but best attempt out of four. (Yes, I was in my pyjamas. XD)

Kaydana those look great! I love the one with the little braids! :D

For me this was an epic fail! I was going to try and do the whole thing, but doing it changed my mind. I think I would like to master this though because I love half ups and this one is pretty, at least when it's done right. ;)

WOW you guys!!!! I'm GREATLY impressed......haven't watched the tutorial, I'm probably too short still to attempt this....as well as uncoordinated....but beautiful to look at. Very awe-inspiring.

And, this is the first month I've noticed we're having a "hairstyle of the month" or something? What month did this start? I really have to open my eyes more often....I think I need more chocolate in my diet or something....

everyones cage braids look so good!

i attempted the half up cage braid the other day, but it was just not working for me :(; everytime i got to the hair right above and behind my ears it always began to look too drapey, so after about an hour i gave up. i will try this half updo again sometime, but i'm sort of afraid because i really hurt my arm that first time lol. did this happen to anyone else? from my elbow down to the palm of my hand on my right arm was killing me for the next two days. i guess next time i try i just won't try for an hour; that may have been a bit much...:ponder:

HEY so I'm not the only one!! LOL. For the day after my left arm was hurting a bit. Can't remember where, though. Don't overexert yourself! Did you feel a twinge while you were doing it?

Here is my contribution - this is more of a cage braid half up, but then to have all my hair cage braided I would definitely need another pair of hands! :D

Well, I've given it a go. I can't make it work on my whole length because my arms just won't let me. So, it's a half-up.

haha nope, but it seems we're the only ones because noone else has said anything lol. i wonder if maybe we were holding the hair wrong or something because only one of our arms was hurting?

hahahhaa yes, no more. i've learned my lesson! it's so ridiculous that doing my hair is really like an upper body workout lol; i'm always so tired after braiding it or trying new updos. also, yes i did; mostly just in my elbow i think, i can't recall.

Oh, I just love the little braids!!! I haven't tried to do a cage braid yet. I'm a little wary of it since people have mentioned that their arms get pretty tired. My arms tire very easily and I end up with muscle pain and spasms due to a connective tissue disease. Maybe a half-up cage braid would be ok.

I suspect the version with little braids would be much easier on your arms than the "proper" version. You can take a break after making the little braids, and making the main braid is much quicker, as there are less sections and you don't have to spend time sorting out each section as you add it in.

I tried it (page two). I'm sure the half-up version would leave my hair looking a mess, though.
