I'm sure most of us have seen at least one scary movie that involves girls with long hair. The Ring creeped me out to death!
ANYWAY...has your long hair ever scared anyone? I know I have scared my DH especially when all the lights are out and all he can see is a pale figure with long dark hair. shudder:
After watching Paranormal Activity, my DH didn't even want to look at me with the lights off. :D

I'm 1m85cm so I tend to freak people out no matter what the hair looks like :D
But I did give my sister a near heart attack when staying at her house last year and she noticed a dark figure with witch hair float into the bathroom..... Actual girly screaming and everything! -Dude, I just need to peeeee!!! (We live in different countries, so we don't see each other in person that much)

I am old, have long gray hair, and it does look witchy in a dim room or at night. I even scare myself at times!

Hmm, I freaked people out when I had my head shaved on both sides, and I freaked people out with solid purple hair, then solid blue hair, and sometimes my black hair would freak people out.
:) I probably still freak people out a little bit haha. Never freaky with long hair though because I have never had long long hair. :/

Many people think that if you have un natural black hair that you must be crazy. Ive gotten that its too harsh, "yet suits me"
Now I am using henna again, And you know what? Even henna kind of freaks people out sometimes when I tell them about it. :D

You're an original Wednesday Addams! Henna is such a soft, warm color though.

I'm super freaky! MY neighbors sent me a priest once who tried to bless me, and told me he saw demons in me :run:. My Grandmother threw holy water at my first Ipod and broke it :(. I grew up in a very catholic place, I was told I was evil because I was a lefty. I also talk to people in latin when I sleep, which DH freaked out the first time that happened.

I do really creepy paintings, and have an affinity for the dead and tombstones, listen to black metal and I am introverted and alone a lot. I have goat skulls in my house as candle holders.

Many neighbor friends here in the US told me I look like La Llorona (the wailer) :rollin: and my aunt in back home asked me if I got bit by a vampire before I left Europe...

However, my kids look so angelic :crush: people approach me more now because of them. I striped my eyebrow in high school, had a gazillion piercings and wore black gowns and jeans with a black shirt. This was before evanescence made it "cool".

HAHAH! My grandmother made me sit on my hand while I ate/did my homework. My teacher kept taking the crayons out of my left hand and putting it in my right.

I can't get too upset though. I'm now ambidextrous.

And If I were skinnier I guess I'd look like the Llorona too, or maybe even an angry spirit coming back from the dead to haunt the living. Its kind of hard to be a scary longhair when you're 300+ lbs.

I need to change that. Mrugh.

edit: want to be my neighbor? We could spook them all! :D

Seriously! Best Halloween haunted house EVER! :hifive:

Yeah I'm ambidextrous too which is nice, I did get traumatized though because I went to catholic school and they tied my hand back completely :(.

I guess I don't mind being scary. The good thing is, when I met DH's boss (he's like a REALLY scary guy with crazy scars and all) I felt really comfortable, and I smiled like I would with anyone. He noticed that, that was the first thing he told DH after he hired him, how he's never had a tiny woman smile and be comfortable around him. I guess I didn't spook him at all  but I left the goat heads at home, and he had a morning star hanging with a sign that said "security system".

My grandmas hair is long and black and she likes to do scary faces when she lets her hair down. She really looks like a witch. I really would like to look like her when I get older.

I wish my hair will some day be long enough to freak people out.

A couple of years ago I was combing my wet hair after washing while sitting on a chair in my dimly lit bedroom. The hair was in front of my face and it's black when wet. My cousin came in (he was around 12 or 13) and screamed, saying "Stop doing this, you look like Samara Morgan!".

I seem to freak people out with my personality sometimes, in terms of turning out not to be the meek little pushover I unfortunately appear to be. All it takes to do this is for me to catch someone ripping me off, bossing me about or trying to take advantage.

A couple of people haven't quite recovered from the shock, which is a real shame, although most people are generally more respectful after I've, er, expressed my views. It's not even like I behave particularly badly. My son says it's like seeing a beautiful flower suddenly vomiting blood. I'm working on seeming more moderate. :( But, you know, be nice and I'll be nice back...

Never freaked anyone out with the hair, because that is far too short/ordinary/unremarkable. :)

It's definitely a thing. Not sure where the idea comes from, but I know that the word 'sinister' comes from the Latin word for 'left,' so it's a notion that has been around for quite a while.

True. The idea of the "left hand path" vs. the "right hand path" has existed for ages, where the "left side" essentially means anything to do with the Devil (who is often depicted as left handed). Exactly how this came to be, I don't know.

Is this really a thing!? People really think left handedness means evil? I saw this on American Dad, and I'd never heard even a hint of this before. I thought they made it up.

Yes, it is a thing and not only for Catholics. In many europan languages (English too) right also means correct. Pair that up with sinistra being "unlucky" and the "wrong path" and you've got yourself left handed people being evil during the classic Latin era.

People were not educated back then, they didn't even speak Latin really (that's how Italian developed, too many poor people who couldn't speak Latin in the middle ages) and couldn't pick up a bible and read it (couldn't read). So it not only was due to language, but it became folklore (black magic is also referred as the left hand path) and then later on taboo. In French, gauge means clumsy, graceless and awkward.

Having two left hands or two left feet (never right) refers to being really clumsy, doing things to the left means adultery in Russian... I could go on forever! Just so much negativity even now.

They tied my hand back so I wouldn't use it in a place that people were REALLY superstitious, I had to hide using my left hand until I was in high school in a different city for art. So even though I am ambidextrous, I have a very dominant left hand. Leonardo da vinci was a forced ambidextrous too, that makes me feel a lot better . And this happened to me 20-15 years ago. It's gotten better now.

So it's not religious, it's cultural/language. I was the only left handed person in my family until my baby girl was born :). They say that lefties are associated with really hard births, my son doesn't have a dominant hand (he draws with both, holds with both I think he's a natural ambi but I don't know yet) but my girl is a lefty. We're a family of evil creatures  even my stepson is lefty! the 10% of the population being lefty is more of a 80% in my home ...

Is this really a thing!? People really think left handedness means evil? I saw this on American Dad, and I'd never heard even a hint of this before. I thought they made it up.

Yep.

There's some genetic thing on my mom's side of the family. EVERYONE is left-handed...and none of them were allowed to use their left hand to write or eat. My mom's generation was hit every time they reached for something with their left hand. My mom let them do the same thing to my brother (mid-70s), but when they had me (mid-80s), she told them no.

So I'm the only person in my family who can write with my left hand. I used to feel weird when I played with my cousins, so I learned to write with my right too, so that I could fit in.

So, yeah, like the others said, it's still very much out there. My mother's family was Catholic and was told by their priest that they shouldn't let the children write with the wrong hand.

It's so odd. I still catch my mom staring in wonder when I write things down, like I've broken some law of physics.

YES.

My favorite picture from my childhood is one my dad took to immortalize how I looked when I played.

All you see is a shadow...holding a shadow...that happens to have legs.

My hair gets HUGE and if I don't keep tabs on it it can get bigger than I realize. It's very common for me to be working or answer the door and meet a shocked/scared look. When I next go to the bathroom I realize I look like a voodoo priestess.

Doesn't hurt that I like bright colors, odd hairtoys, and only sing snatches of songs.

As far as my hair goes, I havn't yet been able to actually "freak" anyone out, and probably never will unless they're the type who fears cottonballs and other such fluffy things. I did however use to freak out a friend of mine with my tendency to pull food and filled cups of drinks out from behind pillows and other concealed places in my room :D.

I do freak people out sometimes, but not with my hair. And it's usually me and one of my friends who do that together. We both look fairly sweet and innocent, but the things that come out of our mouths... we both have really morbid and dirty minds, so we tend to talk about stuff that isn't really fit for public conversation. We're pretty sure we shouldn't actually be allowed out in public. :D

It's even worse when we're with a few of our other friends, because even though they might not start conversations like that in public, they usually join in.

I hadn't freaked anybody out (as far as I knew) until last week.
I wanted to teach my DH to braid my hair (because I really like it when people style my hair). After explaining the procedure and showing him how to do it, it was his turn to try. After a couple of minutes, he gave up and shamefully admitted that staring so intently at my hair reminded him of Sadako (Samara). I'm blond so I find this hilarious.

I don't know if its me misinterpreting body language but there have been a couple times I think I've freaked people out. Pele is the volcano goddess and is said to have long red hair, many people have claimed to see her and there are all kinds of spooky-cool personal stories (My uncle and his girlfriend both saw the same apparition and feel they saw her). So with that understanding, I was at the airport once and a local guy seemed to get very nervous around me like he was spooked or dare I say, saw a ghost? (I'm 5'3" and not imposing!), there was another time, too where I noticed the same kind of body language. I don't know why but the only thing I can attribute it to is I was mistaken for Pele! Ha!

The only time I freak anyone out is when my DH finds one of my hairs in his food....:o)

haha. In high school I had just showered at my then best friend's place, and when I walked out she thought I was the girl from the ring. lol

A good friend of mine pulls off a mean Samara. She's pale and her hair is always a mix of curls and straight so she can make it look a mess. I walked into classrooms in HS more than once to her just...standing there with her hair pulled over her face. Not nice!

If it helps your DH, PA doesn't have any hair business. He should be more worried about just being in a house, period. Nothing is safe. :D

I do not think I have scared anyone, however just so happens I can make that sound the ghosts in The Grudge made and it would be so tempting to make it behind someone and then throw my hair on them, not that I would do that, but it is still tempting. :P
