I bought my second "real" hair toy today.
Here it is.

Here is the other side

The photos do it no justice...I feel like in the pics it looks dull and weird. It's pretty IRL though. And it was only 7 dollars so I wasn't expecting it to be amazing...

But here is my question! How do you all use them? My hair is not quite BSL but I can seem to get it in my hair...it just sort of twists though and doesn't stay.
Can someone suggest to me a nice updo or the secret to using my new toy? :)

It looks lovely! When you insert it into your bun, start by inserting it the opposite direction (ie out of your bun) then turn it back inwards. There are plenty of YouTube videos that show it. Enjoy your new toy! :D

That looks about right...the hair toy is a sort of fork I believe. Maybe you just need to practice? I think the general idea is to make a bun then stick the fork in, just like you have done.

Hey, you did it! :D It does take some practice. As for hairstyles that would be good with BSL hair, I'll let others answer that...but, if it helps, think of using hairsticks or forks as like "pinning" the updo part of your hair to the scalp part of your hair. You put an end thru part of the updo, then under some scalp hair, then back out thru the updo on the other side, and that makes it secure.

I just found this diagram (http://sarcasm-hime.net/hairpin-tutorial.jpg), showing how to put in hair pins. Hair sticks and forks work on the same principle.

Note in the first figure: she would be putting the pin downwards THROUGH a small amount of hair at the top of the bun, before "scooping" the scalp hair and sticking the ends into the bun again (the diagram didn't seem clear on it, makes it look like she is putting it outside the bun).

Thanks guys that makes sense about inserting it opposite.
I was wondering if anyone could reference any specific updos for my length and having layers (hate them.)
Or a way to keep my ends inside and secured with the fork instead of how all my ends just flopped right out X___X maybe I just need longer less layered hair

Have you tried a lazy wrap bun? Those are really great with forks...

How about a pencil bun? Search YouTube for it. Here are two of the search results:

I'd try the pencil bun--it's still my go-to, although I have to modify it a bit at this length. If you don't have quite enough length for it, you can use a couple of fingers to wrap the hair instead of your whole hand. And btw, I think those bits of hair sticking out of your bun are pretty cute!

Ahh I really love that bun its so simple...I have tried it with my stick about 5 times and it just isn't working. I'll keep trying though maybe with a couple fingers like you said.
Thanks :)
