can't sleep thanks to asthma chest pain, so I'm planning my hair to take my mind off it. I have my 5 year reunion coming up next friday, I'm pretty excited but I definitely need to touch of my roots as I want more of an umbre effect.
I however have no idea what to do with my cut. I want my length to stay, maybe a little (like 1" or less) trim, but since I want it angled in the back (I don't like straight across hair, looks to perfect) any length removed will make the shortest part seem sooo much shorter!
I'm hoping for suggestions? my hair is super thick and mostly straight. I'm all about low maintenance... after the shower I usually put in some leave in conditioner and let it air dry. sometimes I'll do a sock bun or headband curls. I'm thinking layers. but I still don't know what to do about bangs... anyone have any suggestions?
this is my hair (it's a bit unruly today because after my shower I threw it in a bun without leave in.... oops. but I was busy all day cleaning!):

btw sorry if this is in the wrong section or something, I'm still having a little of a tough time navigating!

Your hair is ridiculously pretty.
I would go for a gentle U shaped hem in the back. Nothing drastic, a very shallow U would look great and take away the severity of a straight across cut. I feel ya on the steeper angles/more layers making hair feel shorter, so I wouldn't go for a deep-V hemline or necessarily more layers.
Have fun at your reunion!

thank you!
I definitely don't want a real deep v or anything, I think I'll go for a soft u like you said, just enough so it's not straight. I'm still torn on layers. I got a little layering last time (a year ago... hair dressers hate me! hehe) and really loved them, but I know some hair dressers go a little crazy when you ask for layers :\
I just stole some coconut oil from my sister to use as a leave in, I'm pretty excited to start using that as the few times I did my hair felt amazing.

From your picture, I think you have a nice amount of layers that are well placed and gradual (not choppy), so I wouldn't mess with those or add more. Adding more in the back may be unnecessary since your hair is so straight. Your hair is thick but since it's straight, layers in the back may make it look thin, especially if your hair gets piece-y at all.
If you want your existing layers refreshed, go for it, but I wouldn't add more.
PS~ I just bought a bottle of coconut oil today, too! I'm excited to use it, I haven't used it in close to a year and I missed it.
PPS~For future reference in asking for layers, I've found that using words like "long layers," "gradual" and "well-blended," get across the point of subtle layers that aren't choppy. And if you wanted to be even more clear, you could just say that you want a small distance between the shortest layer they are cutting in and the longest layer.

I'm tried asking for subtle layers, very little layers, soft layers... they always seem to give me really choppy ones! I was hoping I could ask for layers to help bring out the tiny bit of wave I have (not that a cut will make my hair magically curly, but something that makes it easier to bring out). I've never been to this salon before but they are $$$ (I got a good deal) so I'm hoping she'll be talented...
my sister got a jar of CO form the farmer's market and it expires in august, it's huge jar so I know she'll never use it all and won't miss the bit I took. I'm thinking about putting and leaving some CO in tonight for some extra moisture :)

so I haven't cut it yet but I did have my mom bleach the roots. she messed up a bit but it's not bad and you can't see. I did go too light by accident... oops. but I also put pink in. what do you think?

I did an overnight coconut oil treatment the night before and right after I did it. my hair feels fine, but my hair is pretty hard to damage :)

Very pretty! I can't even see any mess ups.
I've always loved pink streaks in blonde hair, I'm always begging my blonde roommate to add a streak or two, so I can live vicariously through her.
PS~ have you thought about sideswept bangs? They look like they would suit you and the rest of your hair.

thanks, I love pink and I haven't had it for year because of jobs, but with recent health problems I can't work so I decided to have pink again!
I actually have side swept bangs, they're just super long at the moment because I'm lazy haha. I'm going to have them touched up when I get it cut, I was thinking about blended blunt bangs because I love them, but they don't compliment my face well so I'll probably just stick with side swept bangs :)

It looks so pretty! And the pink is such a nice colour! Was it a pink dye or a deposit dye?

thanks! I'm not sure, it's beyond the zone party time pink... I just got it because it was the cheapest and it comes in a bottle that allows me to use it again lol
