Well in a desperate attempt to go lighter I made an appointment with my salon and did a test streak.............

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v710/justdoinit/Facebook/Mobile%20Uploads/473167_10150985731166928_1644262379_o.jpg

Ummmm, green, and not a nice green. :( With an inch of orange roots. It was what I expected, I've been two stepping for a year or more now.
My plan is to cut it out now.
On a positive note, I do have an inch of ready to bleach only box-dyed roots already ( but boy am I ever going to miss that henna shine! )

Just a pic for all you wondering what bleached indigo looks like ;)

oooh that picture is saying at least 10,000 words! Indigo just doesn't go away, it ought to be a controlled substance!

I'm in the same situation, I'm planning to use deposit only color for the next probably 2 or 3 years to transition since my roots are red.

Hmm, mine did bleach out...my colorist called it "breaking through" the indigo after leaving it on for awhile.

Only 2 parts of my hair didn't bleach out all the way, but it might have if we left it on longer.
He understood that I didn't want to have brittle over-processed hair so we just covered it with a golden toned color gloss.

I wish I had a picture since most of mine actually became a light pale color like a light blonde, with no green in it .

Thankyou for posting.

I agree it should be a controlled substance.

I really hope you get the results you want :flower:

Wow..this is a great post just for reference as to what can happen ! Thanks! :]
I was going to start doing a 2 step process but I chickened out and did henna only. This pic helps me decide if I really really want to indigo.

Thanks for the pic! Reminds me a lot of my bleach on indigo mistake! Mine was just more uneven with bits of black left here and there. Awful. Hennaing over that didn't help either as the lightest greenish bits stayed as they were, there's apparently no pigment there for henna to stick to...or something, maybe someone can explain this correctly :)

Yeah, and the same goes for henna (unfortunately)! ;)

I know, my roots which henna hasn't touched are so much more... well, natural ;)
I'm so sorry though that you'll have to cut it all off!

This just supports what we all already know or should know - henna and indigo are a COMMITMENT in a way that other permanent colors are not.

Good luck with whatever your plans are.

I'm with henne-while I sometimes use henna only, I'm committed to Indigo now. All the removal stories are so scary! My hair totally freaks out over bleach and I just know it would all end in scissors :(
I hope it all turns out ok and you don't have green hair.

I totally sympathize, I ended up with green streaks after using ColorOops on hendigo  I hope everything turns out okay for you!

Yep.. I'm a natural light blonde, so I decided to bleach back to my natural color and never dye again.. well.. after many very expensive applications of bleaches and removers and blah blah blah, my very experienced (worked in high-end salons for over 30 years and still attending shows and courses and such) stylist decided to tell me that she didn't want to continue trying to get it out.. I had ugly green hair. UGLY GREEN.. So, now I've dyed it red to try and counteract the green, which doesn't work if it's "indigo" green, but it was worth a shot.. so yeah.. now I have 2 inches of baby blonde natural roots and the rest looks like a bad nightmare... Oh, and did I mention that my curls are FRIED out because of all the processing? I'll never touch henna or indigo EVER again! It's not worth it... I've lost a year of growth now because of trying to lighten it out.. I'm mad at myself for it all.. Lesson learned for me!

Is your colorist anywhere near Florida? I'd sure like to get my indigo out!

Not at all, he's in NY :(.
The gold gloss he did counteracted the small section of green very well. I can't even find it.

Wow.. do you know any details of what he used? I'm desperate :( How long was the bleach on your hair for?

Hmm, maybe a half hour, could be longer. It was either 20 or 30 volume, I think...
I know after he bleached he did the gloss for about 15 minutes.

He had tested a strand of my hair before bleaching the rest of my hair, so he knew it was possible and how long to wait.

Ooh ok :( Mine was on for about 20 minutes and the longer it was on, the deeper green it went :( Do you know if yours looked bright then faded? I've tried google and consultations with professionals and most of them had not even heard of henna... I feel like there is a way, just no one around me knows how lol.. The one lady that tried wouldn't leave it on for longer than the 20 minutes... I wish this guy would write a blog or something about what he knows lol..

Lol, he actually never even heard of indigo or henna before.
So I guess I lucked out. Well, he did test strand first, so he knew what he was doing then.

I do know that it started out the greenish color and eventually went to a light platinum blonde/white-ish color.
He showed me on the literally 3 or 4 strands that didn't "break through" completely. Though the roots and ends did get the lighter white/blonde color, the middle of the pieces stayed a light greenish color. To be honest I can't tell now since the gold he used to counteract it hides it very well. I only got highlights, but I don't see why the whole head would be different.

I think me doing the color oops first probably helped a lot.

I've decided to cut out the indigo, I made an appointment for a month from now for a bleaching and, sigh, a pixie cut. I haven't indigoed since March so I'll have a whopping 2 inches of hair to play with!

Hopefully, maybe with the summer heat I'll have had a growth spurt and have two and a half instead, lol!

I've never had a pixie cut but I feel okay with all my hair pulled back into a tight bun so I think it'll be fine. I want a beige blond and a messy spikey look.

Hmmm, I wonder if I'll go back to hendigo again in the winter :ponder:

Hi...I'm just wondering why you want the hendigo out? You're going to be chemically dyeing it (is that correct?) -- why didn't you want to stick to hendigo? Was it too dark?

Your hair is very beautiful. Please don't cut it. You don't know what some girls (like myself) would do for long beautiful sleek shiny dark hair like your own.

^ That's what I'm thinking. Really, you need to go to pixie? It's not like you damaged it or something. Your hair looks very shiny and nice.

Don't go pixie!! (Unless you want to)

You can colour over indigo green with a permanent, I had to go red first then dark brown but it worked.

Also now I've managed to bleach it twice (once was a soapcap once was a 20 vol for half an hour) to get it past the pondwater green stage to an ashy sort of dirty blonde which was easy to colour over.

What colour are you actually wanting to be?

Im very impressed to find out that it is possible to bleach indigo out and to go over it with red dye before brown dye- not that I want to do that necessarily, but I always thought the green would just get greener

It was a hell of a process, I wont sugar coat it!

It took 3 applications of Colour B4 (with heat for hours), then vitamin C soaks every other day for 2 weeks.

Then a soapcap bleaching with 20% which equalled Pondawater green ( I covered it in dark red manic panic for the duration of the few weeks it took to recover from this)

Then one final bleach got it to only a mildly murky ash tone with occasional orange spots which covered just fine.

All this left my hair crying out for moisture though, and with significant breakage but after a few months of babying and semi permanent top ups every 8 weeks it looked healthy again.

Of course I have just followed the above process again to get to red from the henna/indigo/black semi-permanent I used last summer-winter. *facepalm* Apparently I never learn.

Thanks for sharing.

And Sorry to hijack your thread OP.

I have done one colour oops treatment to lighten my indigo closer to my natural colour (which has worked a bit but given me a greenish tinge near my roots) so I am reluctant to use it again.

I may do a few more Vit C and honey treatments though, then leave it to grow out. If my hair could handle bleach I would use your method- but my hair is hopeless it literally snaps off with bleach :( even with 20%.

Thank you for your compliments! :flower: I do really enjoy that super shiny hair only henna brings but it is time for a change.......I've been bottle blond most of my life and, well, I miss it.

As for the pixie, it is just way too hot this summer to have long hair, it is too short to put up ( my back is very short right now) and the pixie would feel so great in this heat. I'm feeling kind of adventurous anyways, what the heck?
