View Full Version : Henna over MP, seems to lock the color in?

I did MP my hair vampire red 9 days before my vacation and 2 days bfore I left, I then realized that if I go in the pool or water, it would bleed red/pink so I decided to henna over it in case it bled to nothingness, and would be stuck with a mixture of red, and white roots... So...
What I noticed is that after I did the henna over the MP, it almost stopped the MP from bleeding at wash time and sort of locked the color in. Am I dreaming? If indeed it does that, I would MP and each month, I could do a henna gloss to lock the color in.
Anyone experienced something of that sort?

Same thing happened to me, unfortunately. I hate how much darker my hair is, knowing the dark pink is probably there to stay for a long time.

Not from personal experience, but I have read posts before where people have said this.

Luckily, I like the Vampire red, so i am happy about it, but wow, that is a really cool find. I'll do henna glosses right after i am done MP (or day after) to keep in the color longer.

Woot!! Awesome discovery! :)
I just went super stupid pillarbox bright with bleach and crazy colour dyes (same stuff as manic panic) and I wonder if henna would lock the colour, provide it's usual conditioning benefits and also not darken my colour?! Or maybe a cassia application?!
Hmm.... I feel more hair experiments coming on :stirpot:

I'd try with a henna gloss at first! I don't think it will add too much darkness I think the henna over semi permanent dyes doen't really darken the shade for some reason... I read this girl on here that had colored her hair jet black then used henna over it and PULLED the color out to a red shade... It was amazing!

Oh man, I wish this happened to me! I've been playing around with different shades of MP red over my henna for the past month or so. However, I've actually noticed that the henna seems to...I don't know, displace the MP? Overpower it? I'm not 100% sure what it does, but it typically goes from being visibly Manic-Panic-y to being only henna-y in appearance, with possibly the faintest trace of MP left if I look really close in certain light.
To be fair, I usually just mix MP in a 1:1 ratio with my SMT every week, so that may have something to do with it. Either way, since so many others seem to be experiencing this henna 'color lock' phenomenon, maybe I should experiment with it some more this summer!

Hmm, well henna straight over my blue black just made it shine red, but in normal light it was still very much black.
I'm loathe to darken hair I just spent untold amounts of cash lightening... especially as it's all now damaged again, but I will totally strand test this on the underside with a gloss on oneside and straight henna on the other.
Probably next weekend. :D
