I've 16 and have had long hair all my life. My parents never allowed me to cut my hair. Thought elementary my mom took very well care of my hair and it was very healthy. Then she let me take care of it. I's let it loose or put it in a ponytail daily. I'd also flat iron and put lots of hair in it. Basically I ruined my hair. There are extreme amount of frizz and split ends in my hair currently. Another problem I have is dandruff. I get lots of dandruff. The thing is my scalp never itches. I just have so much white flakes on my hair. Any help well do.

Welcome to LHC :) your hair sounds wonderfully long, don't worry there are plenty of people here who found their way to LHC because of damaged hair (including me) - all is definitly not lost.

The articles posted are definitly a good place to start, also it might seem basic but maybe even just paying attention to how you wash your hair might make a big difference...How to wash hair correctly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzEjdmXaUUU)

I had really damaged hair from chemicals. After treating it nicely for a year, I have much nicer hair. I've kinda learned how to treat it better. My daughter has fine hair and it was tangling so bad I picked her up a protein treatment product, Aphogee 2 min keratin reconstructor. Her hair likes it and mine does but not too often. I'm debating using it just once to see how my hair feels with one treatment. Also I started oiling my hair before I wash it and when it seems dry and fly away in between washes. I stopped shampooing as much. But with dandruff you'll need to do something for your scalp to help the issue. Look around on here for alternatives to commercial shampoos for dandruff. I use to have dandruff really bad but I switched to a flaky scalp shampoo and it worked way better to fix my problem. So maybe switch products if they aren't truly helping? There has got to be some home remedies for dandruff on the boards somewhere.

Welcome! :flower:

I think the links above should set you on the right track. :)

A standard bit of advice people give is to treat your hair like antique lace -- after all, if you're at around classic, the ends of your hair are probably a good 5 years old or so.

Ooh, also, since I was thinking back to the things that helped me most after I joined and improved the condition of my hair immensely, I'll list them for you:
1) not piling all of my hair on top of my head and sudsing it, but just gently washing the roots and letting the suds run down the length
2) not rough drying my hair with a towel after getting out of the shower
3) combing/brushing gently and not tearing through knots
4) braiding/bunning my hair for bed and having a satin pillowcase/bonnet.

Hope that helps, and welcome again!

Overall thank you to everyone for the advice. As I reread my original message I realize I sound extremely jumble and I even forgot to type a few extra words in there. Woops

I just want to thank everyone for the help.

Welcome to LHC!

Here's an informative article by Ktani on using Mineral Oil (aka baby oil) to help combat splits. It is also a great detangler:

Also, you might want to investigate catnip rinses for combating split ends:

Good luck! ps S and D (search and destroy) can help snip those splits and keep damage at bay..or you might want to consider a small trim to the ends to get rid of the damage.

I'd s&d the splits and try to minimize the damage. I'd also say I'd try to oil moisturize your hair wear it up and forget about it after you've corrected all of your problems. Keeps you from looking at it while it grows.

You probably need a deep conditioning treatment or some other product to provide your hair with extra nutrients. Try Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan Oil, it deeply hydrates, nourishes and strengthens hair, plus it smooths down frizz, prevents split ends and leaves your hair silky soft :)

I found it here: http://www.rylees.ca/pro-naturals-moroccan-oil-hair-treatment-with-heat-protector.html
