Haircut/hairstyle help and sunglasses?

I got my hair cut in layers couple times and angled. Now I feel like my hair is all messed up. With some of the layers there is shorter hair on top of longer pieces and cant be styled.

What kind of haircut would you recommend for my square faceshape? I was thinking maybe getting face framing layers and keeping the length or gradual layers.
Also how can I style the layers? I try to use my flat iron but it doesn't work. I would like the layers to go in towards face.

And last what kind of sunglasses would look best. A lot of people say round glasses for square shaped faces but Im afraid I will look like a bug with these? http://tinyurl.com/6u9839l and instead maybe get something like this http://tinyurl.com/7jtv26o ?


I feel out of style with plain straight hair.Maybe I shouldnt care?

your face doesn't look square. it looks oval, a shape that looks good with almost any haircut. if you feel compelled to cut your hair i think you would look good with long side bangs.

Faces that are more square tend to be flattered by soft wispy ends around the face. Your idea of face framing layers sounds pretty spot on~

I think you'd look good with just about any cut, really.

Hello jessmiller, I must say you have some beautiful hair! Very similar to mine, only longer and thicker! ^_^

Your face really doesn't look at all square or rectangular in the first picture, but I also have a square face and I know that sometimes in pictures due to the angle, lenses or lighting it does not appear so. Anyway, pictures are not a good method to determine face shape - looking in the mirror with all hair pulled up in a ponytail and away from the face is.

Seems we have a lot in common, so I will share with you some of the things that I've learned so far, maybe it will help you:

The general rule for a square face is this: curves, curves and more curves. You want to do anything that softens the harsh features, that is: curls in your hair and round shapes in your glasses's frames.

For glasses: The link that you gave is pretty good, but it's not the single option; there are also soft rounded butterfly shapes, oval shapes and smaller round shapes that will work. I think you have strong features that will carry the big round ones well, but it's hard to tell 100% sure before you try them on :)

For me, the most important thing was to experiment: I would go to the stores, try a pair on and have a friend take a photo of me with a small pocket camera or a phone camera. I tried many many things and after a while I began to understand my features and what works best. Sure it's a bit of a hassle, but once you know your face you'll know it forever and better than anybody else! You can be your own stylist :p

For hair: Square/Rectangle faces look good with side bangs and yep, face framing layers. Other than that, if you have straight hair I don't recommend layers in your length, I would let them grow out if I were you. For curls, you can use straightening irons, curling irons, or heat curlers(there are lots of tutorials on youtube) but I don't recommend them either, heat is very damaging to hair.

Also, what looks good for a straight face is something with volume at the top, to balance out the jaw line and make it appear smaller. I've read about this, it made sense and experimented again with styling my hair and taking pictures and found it to be true.

I don't think you should cut anything just yet. Your hair is so long...and shiny, its really pretty.

I've felt the exact same way as you and I did those exact layers. I loved them...at first. Then they became a maintenance nightmare.

My forehead is a fivehead, so I need bangs. But now I need to wash them everyday. Kinda annoying but not that big of a deal.

I wish I had bought an inexpensive wig or bang-piece to experiment with first. Have you tried those yet?

I think face framing layers would look great and pilot sunglasses perhaps?

I like my hem line v shaped and no layers. I think its a matter of preference.

I think that a nice face frame shortest piece around the chin or lower. If you like having layers and want them cleaned up I'd just do nice long layers not too short to help blend the face framing. Maybe even try a new part. Your hair really is pretty. I'd love my hair to be as long as yours
