So, I made a thread like this half a year ago (only with winter, to cone or not to cone, lol!) but ehm.. yeah, I have another question!

I was wondering if cones can protect the hair against the heat of the sun? I know cones protect the hair against heat in general, but would it also decrease sun damage? Or is there any other product that can protect the hair against the sun?

Asking this because I'm outside at work a lot and it's very warm lately. I can not wear anything on my head though, so scarves or hats are not an option! :( I'm cone-free at the moment but today I used a serum with cones to protect my hair. And then I wondered if it would really help ;)

(I have googled it but couldn't find an old topic about this, but I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times already!)

I've just started using cones again, but i'm not sure if they protect your hair against the sun.. I'll be watching this thread for answers :D

Ah thank you, that is very interesting! Oils are too heavy for my hair though (it's short and fine!) but I might see if I can find some of those! :)

Id guess cones do offer some protection as they add a layer on the hair, i do know that cones make my hair greasier quicker, than when i use them in winter.

It would make sense, right? I am wondering though if I'd need to get a product with SPF in it. I already have one of those but it's a spray and I don't really like that. (Plus it's been open for a while now so that probably can't be good). Might just get a new one.. mm.

Henna is said to offer protection (http://www.mehandi.com/shop/hennahairbook/index.html) against the sun, so you should be safe on that front.

From what I've read sun protection can come from the ability of a product to reflect (http://brown.edu/Student_Services/Health_Services/Health_Education/common_college_health_issues/sun_protection.php) sun rays (that's why skin is shinny when it has sunscreen on it) and cones tend to make the hair shinier so it's possible that they offer some type of protection.

There are products created specifically to protect the hair against UV rays, for example Quintessence Q-Sunshade Leave In Hair Conditioner and Scalp Protectant SPF 30 (http://www.skinstore.com/p-2209-Quintessence-QSunshade-Leave-In-Hair-Conditioner-and-Scalp-Protectant-SPF-30.aspx?affiliatecode=froogle_QS010) so there are alternatives.

Hope this helps. :)

I haven't found anything that protects against the sun other than a hat, bandana/scarf or UV parasol. But, my hair is very sensitive to sun lightening, so ymmv.
