I feel a little silly asking this, but the search function has availed me nothing. Can someone give me clear, step-by-step instructions for scalp scritching? I think it would be a great benefit for me, but I don't want to try it until I've got a good idea what I'm doing.

Also, Heidi W. has a very good explanation of scritching on THIS (http://www.longhaircommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?p=236234) thread. :) So take your pick. lol

Hmmm...that sounds like it would cause breakage. Like scratching with a fingernail. What is the purpose? Increased blood flow?

The idea is to first and foremost help to loosen any dead skin cells and dirt from the scalp, but it also increases blood flow. Afterward, you can brush it away or wash it away. Scritching is also a great relief for people who suffer from dandruff or more severe skin disorders on the scalp.

When done with fingernails, the key is to be gentle but firm enough to loosen everything. You can scritch with a comb, too, like in the links I gave. It doesn't cause damage, as long as it's done carefully.
