New hair colour....I don't like. What to do!?

Hi all!

So. I got a new hair colour the other day at the local college. I have a bleached section in my hair under my bangs and round to one side. They rebleached it (after I'd coconut oiled!) and I asked for peacock tones, and on the rest of my head I asked for my natural colour, which I didn't get.

Here it is (forgive my unimpressed face!):

So. I wanted a deep and rich colour. I ended up with this light, horrible mess. It isn't dry and doesn't feel damaged. The all over colour was a quasi permanent. The "bright" colours were Directions. They obviously didn't know what they were doing and I feel let down. Badly. ETA: You can't really see it too well but there is green, purple and pink in there. They tried to put blue on but it just didn't work so the blonde bits are just my natural hair, bleached.

I want to just whack a permanent dye over it in a nice rich chocolate brown like my natural hair colour so I can grow out and forget about dying.

What do you all think I should do? :( I feel like an idiot.

That doesnt look too bad at all! I like seeing people with colourful hair, i always think they must have colourful personalities! :)

I tried to fix a hair dye mistake once and got green hair. :confused: So I'm not going to advise dying your hair, because I am clueless

When you say you got it done at a local college, was it a hairdressing school? I'm wondering whether you could get a refund, or get it fixed for no charge, but I don't have any experience with gettin my hair cut at a college.

You could always put some manic panic on the sections you would like brighter & it won't add any extra damage. I'd recommend leaving it on at least 4 hours - preferably like 8-10 hours if possible. You could maybe just wrap the dyed sections in plastic wrap & sleep on it?

I think it looks gorgeous just like it is, but I love colorful hair :)

You really don't want to be doing another permanent dye so soon. Permanent dyes are very damageing, and you just got one done (if I read you right), not to mention bleach on your bangs.
You could try and do some more Directions yourself, if you were getting it done at a salon there is a very high chance it wasn't left on long enough. A lot of people who use veggie dyes, myself included, leave them on all night long (or at least 4 hours). They need to be applied to dry hair that has been shampooed but not conditioned so the hair is as porous as possible.
I can understand that you're disappointed, it is not very peacock-y, but I'm sure you can make it work using veggie dyes and something less damageing than slapping a permanent all over it.

There are also veggie dyes in natural colours, check out the brand Adore, they have a very wide range of browns.

could you just get some more directions and re-do the coloured bits yourself so they are bright? maybe the colouyrs just needed leaving on longer? I have a directions white toner which didn't do much when i left it for 45mins (despite instructions saying 15mins) but a few people on here have said they leave directions on for hours

I feel so bad for you. Not because I think it looks horrible but because I know what its like not to get what you asked for/wanted. I have been living with a color I did not want for about three weeks now. I met with a colorist or color specialist and discussed my hair. I told her what I wanted and we discussed my options. This Thursday I am getting it fixed. I live in a small town so I didnt even think there would be a color specialist in my area. She was so nice and knowledgable. I felt so relaxed and confident that she could help my hair. And let me tell you, I never feel that way when I go to the hairdresser. I always have that lump in my throat and feeling of doom because of all my bad experiences at the salon. Plus she was very professional in that she didnt say anything mean or rude about the hairdresser that gave me my present awful color. Which she could have but she didnt. I liked that.

Anyways I, myself, am not too knowledgable in this area but I like what the posters have been saying. Im getting a demi-permanant color. I have to fix my color. It would take about five years to grow out and the dermification would be too much for me to handle. So I wish you luck on fixing your hair.

I personally think it looks ok.

There are a few options:

1. you could get it professionally done again. Don't go to the same person. Best bet is same salon (as they will likely fix it for free or discount) but different person.

2. DIY colour. I don't usually recommend this unless you know what you are doing or have someone you can talk to who does. As I don't know your hair's history I can't suggest anything myself. When theres different tones you often need to correct them first before using an all over colour or it can look messy.

3. Clip in extensions! They are your friend. You can go all sorts of funky colours, just for a special occasion or wear them every day if you want. Colour should stay true waaaay longer than if you bleach/tint your hair, they're cheaper (ebay) & you don't need to bother with regrowth. They also don't damage your hair. Human hair ones you can re-dye too. I'll bet you can even get peacock design ones & you can definitely get real feather extensions.

Thank you all. For now, I think I'm going to treat my hair like cotton candy and pamper it a bit before I do anything else. It needs it I think!
Then I'll decide. I will probably go with a non-harsh semi-permanent dark brown dye and maybe Colour B4 it but not sure as I haven't had any permanent colourants on my hair.
Then I cad get some funky hair clip ins =)

I would wait at least 1 week. During this time use tons of conditioner and do deep condirioning treatment.
Then you can dye them again.
A friend of mine did a colour that she didn't liked and bleached and dyed them the next day but it kills your hair!

Thanks! It'll definitely fade...I've had loads come out already and I only had it done on Friday.

Woah there! Colour B4 it? What for? If you went chocolate brown all over it will cover the bleached sections after 1 or 2 applications. (It may take more than 1 over bleach damage) and you only need to use a semi permanent.

Good point. I was panic typing! =)

When I have applied I always leave it minimum of half an hour up to overnight, too. I have some plum Directions and Crazy Colour fire somewhere I think which might help me out!

From what I can see, I think it actually looks pretty cute! If you do decide to go over it all with a dye, why use permanent? I would use a demi-perm. It's shinier, gentler, and IME lasts just as long, if not longer, somehow. (I haven't read replies so please excuse me if this is redundant. lol)

It looks cute. And it will fade, plus your bangs will grow and you can trim them if you'd like.
