First thread ever here. I was wondering if anyone else has this same issue. Most of the top layer of my hair is pretty straight, but just underneath it my hair has this wave like I had it braided. I find it to be super annoying unless I braid all of my hair. I've tried scrunching the top layer in hopes of bringing out a wave, but it just doesn't stay. I've been thinking about getting my hair thermal straightened after I pop my baby out and the shed period goes back to normal. The cost is pretty high though and since I have A LOT of hair I know it may cost more than average. So, just in case you all have some advice, I thought I'd ask. I have plenty of time to make a decision. :)

I have the same "problem" - my top layer is looser waves, like 2a/b. The layer next to my nape is 3a/b curls - like the diameter of a sharpie marker. The majority is 2c, tight waves ending in spiral curls. I usually braid my hair when damp into 4-5 braids and it dries 2c like how my hair is naturally. IMO you shouldn't thermal straighten your hair because you'll have to do touch-ups all the time, and it's expensive, and if you want to stop you'll have a strange looking line between the straight and wavy hair until you cut off all the straightened hair.
Welcome to LHC and congratulations on your baby!

My hairs range in types from 1b to the 3s.
Hair is much easier to easier to manage if one adjusts its care to its nature instead of trying to change its nature.
Thermal straightening is very damaging. Many have lost their hair texture and even their hair from having that done.
We can give you some ideas for temporarily making your hair smoother or straighter without such expense and hazards to your hair.
Welcome. :)

I agree with the other posters. There are easy no-heat methods of making curls you could apply to your straight hairs.
Also, your hair probably looks more normal than you think. Lots of people have a mix of curl types. We are generally our own worst critic. :bluesmile

I also have a mixture of hair wave. I find that damp burning really helps to define my waves much more so than letting it be.
There's lots of resources here and different methods to try with heat and chemical free styling.

my hair is wavy on top and more wavy-curly underneath
you can blow dry your hair on cool setting while using your fingers as a comb its gonna look more even and not really create damage

I have similar issues with my hair; Most of it will dry nice and straight, but it will soft wave toward the bottom, and the center-back of my hair looks like it let it dry in a tight braid all the way down. I have to spend a lot of extra time on that one section while it's drying if I want it to be straight.

Yea, I have it too. My hairs super thick though so it covers up well.
