View Full Version : Committed a LHC sin and did a Keratin Treatment!

I've been wanting a little more manageability with my frizz. I'm not afraid of heat or chemicals, hair is hair to me. It grows. So, my thoughts are: let's have fun while I have it. I've tried everything, Curly Girl method, CO, cone-free, organic, gelling, oiling. My frizz is a formidable enemy I'm at war with and I will take no prisoners. :guns:

I got a deal on Lifebooker for a Keratin Treatment for $95 at an NYC salon, but I backed out of it last minute in salon-anxiety. I went to the supermarket and picked up Organix's Keratin Treatment for $15 (and stayed away from Suave's Keratin kit...you know...because I didn't want my hair to melt (http://www.amazon.com/Suave-Professionals-Keratin-Infusion-Smoothing/dp/B005SPESLY/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1336422958&sr=8-7)). And that way if anything would happen I would have no one else to blame but myself. I did it on Friday night without a strand test, because I'm fearless like that. Thug life.

But you know, you should really do a strand test...

BEFORE:

Normal hair.

I picked Organix's because there were some good reviews and only 30 days, so if I hated it, it would eventually wash out. I divided my hair in sections and applied the serum. It smells like the Malibu rum (or so I heard what malibu rum smells like...). I actually got some of the serum on my skin and it didn't irritate or burn, so I thought that was a good sign. (joke!) Let it sit for 30 minutes before I dried it and straightened it. There is heat protectant in the serum.

AHHH! Straight hair! :crush:

Then I went to admire the super moon with super straight, super greasy hair!

Wait 48 hours and washed out with Organix's Awapuhi Ginger poo and condish and let air dry!

I want to be clear, I wasn't expecting the "95% less curl and frizz" or 100% pin straight hair. I just wanted less frizz. Frankly, it's not bad but not that AMAHZING. I'd give it three stars. It's fair and does well for $15. Maybe my hair is about 25-50% less frizzy. This product might be great for someone that's maybe 1b/1c hair with a little bit of frizz. I think I got what I paid for, honestly. Besides the frizz, it's really soft and shiny! All and all, I don't see and feel any damage or difference in health post-keratin treatment. I think it's a safe product and does what it can for $15 worth. BTW, it's pretty humid right now, and I'm pleasantly surprised I don't have an afro right now.

Excuse my zombie, make-up less mug called a face. My senior thesis is due this week and haven't slept in 36 hours. Yeah, I'm wearing the same shirt. It's just been one of those weekends.

I think it looks great! It definitely looks a lot less frizzy to me :) It sounds perfect for my hair (1c with lots of frizzies ;)) but we don't have anything like that here.. oh well!

Again, it looks awesome!

Definitely see a positive difference in taming frizz! And for the record, you look beautiful for a sleep deprived student. :)

I saw those treatments in the store, while I was buying more conditioner. I almost bought one, then realized my hair would die, because I have bleached bits. (Please note: I don't have thin ends. I have 'ends flying out every which way because my hair hates me and has been trying to escape my head for the past week. That's okay. I hate it, too.)

Your funny. But why is a keratin treatment anti-LHC? I thought they were good for your hair?

looks great, lovely result :)

I don't think my hair could take it though, way too much protein going on there, hehe

I think LHC is mostly against the formaldehyde treatments that cause hairdressers health problems, and like, leave you with dead people chemicals all over your head. This one doesn't sound like it has formaldehyde if it doesn't smell like hellfire.

Thanks. :bows: Personally, I don't think they are bad, but I don't think they're excellent for hair health either. Mainly because of the chemicals and heat, which are general no-nos on growing long, healthy hair. The thread title is just a joke on that.

No formaldehyde, but I'm not oblivious to say there are probably similar chemicals in the serum. Tiger blood.

Username love, btw. :crush:

Hey, that's some great hair for humid!!! I totally understand about the thin ends, I have the same thing! They do have keratin infused shampoos and conditioners, I can't recommend the organix's one but I've heard some raves about Suave's keratin poo & condish.

Right now, I'm spending a lot of times reminding myself that I have had good hairdays in the past, and that buzzcutting my hair because it's humid and hot isn't going to make me happy. Stupid hair.

(I'm going to look into the Suave stuff, though. Who knows, maybe it'll make my hair LIE DOWN. Or my veggie dye this weekend will. That's usulaly great for making my hair go 'flop' a bit.)

Have you tried henna? I have a similar hair type as you and I noticed a huge difference in frizz when i hennaed my hair than when I did a copolla keratin treatment.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about keratin and I hope to hear how well it goes over time.

I am a hennahead! It didn't do much to my frizz, but I did see a reduction in curl. I went from 3a curl to 2b/c.
