View Full Version : Name my bun, what is this thing called?

Been a while since I made an updo movie, but here is one :)

Make a loop, wrap remaining hair around loop base, stretch out loop and lay around to secure. Amish pins make this thing stay put. Easily done with two pins as well. I usually use three because the hold is a little better then.

This one is amazingly sturdy and won't budge even when laying down on it (great for outside laying down *grin*).

Naked arms alert. Hey is is close to 30C and like fish-livable humidity here

It's an inside-out bun, one of the styles I've used and loved the most for the past couple of years. It is a very comfy and sturdy updo.

Someone also called it a nautilus bun.

Heh.. it is a nice and comfy one alright. It'll be easier with a bit more hair though, but it works :)

Thanks for the video, eadwine! The other Nautilus Bun video, by Hypnotica, is also very helpful but backward-handed for me, so it helps to see it the "right" way (:rollin:) around as well!

Between the two of you, I just may be able to do this someday....

I am such a hairspaz. It's beautiful, Eadwine, but simple as you make it look, it's backwards for me and I can't quite get the hang of it!

How about this.. put a mirror in front of the screen and watch the video in the mirror?

You can find Hypnotica's left-handed video in this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=8009&highlight=nautilus) thread :)

I secure it with a very short fork or stick, which remains on top of the outside loop, and goes under the "insides", kind-of like a slide. Here are some examples:

This one is made very loose, and the only thing that keeps it from falling apart is the clamping action of the BiNe fork.

frizzinator that looks beautiful!!

I will have to practice a bit more and secure it with different tools. But I think this one might work perfectly to secure with the Amish pins like I did now, and then stick the.. oh I didn't show that thing yet! Will put the picture in the album now :)

In any case.. use the little sword inside the bun :) *goes to put that picture in the album now*

I love this bun, it can utilize almost any hair tool (ficcare, stick, slide, flexi 8, you name it and it can probably hold that bun up)

I most frequently call it the nautilus bun, but it was sooner called the inside out bun.

Actually, I've been recently having trouble with this but I think I just had an epiphany to wrap it twice around my hand first and I think that'll help!

Once your hair gets to a certain length, you will find that you're able to make this bun and it will hold without so much as a single pin! With my fine hair, I can do it at about 27 inches, but for you with thicker hair is would have to be longer. I love this style!

Nice video once again, Eadwine! :flowers:

Thanks Girlcat36!

I just realized that if you don't do the last part of this bun (where you put the loop around the insides), you have a log roll!

Wait... without a single pin? I don't understand, FrannyG -- you mean after you smoosh the inside part to the outside, it just stays there?

P.S. Nice new avatar pic! :flower:

Ohhh it will definitely NOT stay there for me. My hair is WAYYY too smooth for that. It will flip right out again ;)

Yeah, my hair needs something to hold up this style of bun. It's been my favorite for the past couple of weeks. It is so secure.
