View Full Version : What Was Your Wedding Hair?

How did you wear your hair for your wedding? I'm hoping for pictures! :P

Or, how do you plan/hope to wear your hair for your wedding?

terrible pic, but mine was natural & simple. just loose bouncy waves - half pinned up. I chose this as it's how I normally wear my hair, it's "me", and me is what my HB fell in love with. I didn't see any point spending a small fortune to do something that wasn't really me. we had a small ceremony in town with on a few family/friends, so it fit the quaint & simple feeling of it all.

I plan on wearing my hair in a half-up, when I do marry (won't be for several more years). My GF begs me to leave my hair down all the time, and I never acquiesce. For that day, I think I will. :)

You look beautiful, longNred!

I didn't see any point spending a small fortune to do something that wasn't really me.

That exactly describes my feelings most of the time during our wedding preparations. I don't want to look like a different person just because that is considered "bridal". That's why I won't have a hair dresser or a make-up artist for my wedding (granted, I also don't trust hairdressers with my hair and I'd probably spend months finding someone who can put up my classic-length hair better than myself ).

I haven't decided on a hairstyle yet, only that it's going to be an updo/bun. I might be bothering all of you with pictures in a couple of weeks to help me decide ;)

I just posted a thread on favorite wedding updos and nobody posted :(

But I'm happy this thread took off and I'll be watching! :cheese:

I will be able to add my own photo in a few weeks as I'm getting married this month :o

I was thinking about letting my hair down, but I decided to do an updo instead, just not sure which one.

I am also thinking something like this: http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRjpFvyeNWZmAUfxlDg_04gWI3m7UjCG k20KdATFG6eGNpXFlYu8A Only I have red hair and I would like something around my face ... little curls or so :o

I had been planning to do something really fancy, but then my dress took longer than expected (I was up until 6AM finishing it), so I just did a lazy wrap bun with some accent twists. In retrospect, i think fancy would have been too much and simple was just right.

Sorry I didn't see the other thread! My Google-fu is not great.

I'm trying to think of fancy styles that have a down component. I love to do crazy fancy updos with my hair, but I also like to show off its length!

Side note, A. Correira: woza, what an amazing dress!

Intransigentia, I love the red. Gorgeous!

Nothing special here. I wore it down, and I had bangs at the time. I didn't even wear a veil or any sort of headpiece, though if I had a do-over I would definitely change that by at least adding a flower or a circlet.

I plan to wear my hair like Piper did on her wedding day, half down with a small loop and huge curls with soem front trendils, so pretty! I want her dress too...the other Charmed ones can keep their wedding looks, Piper's is pretty.

My wedding picture is the one on the left in my signature, it's also the only picture I have from the last time my hair was long where you can actually see the length! Nothing special done to it, freshly washed the night before and worn loose as nature intended ;)

There's a larger version of the picture in my albums

I had my hair arranged by a friend who was a stylist. I thought she did a nice job. I didn't want anything too fussy, so this is what she came up with. Sorry the photos aren't fantastic, these are ones snapped by friends.

I had a French twist with a lock of hair loose to one side. I had always found them impossible to do and thought it was me, but the stylist also had issues getting my baby fine hair to behave so it took her four times as long to do it on me compared to other clients. I think I wound up with 20+ bobby pins and it took me almost a half hour to take it down! :p

My wedding hair was actually clip-in extensions, hehe. At the time I had chin length hair. You can see what it looks like without the extensions in the first pic I posted in my album. The hair I joined LHC with in late June of 2011. I was married a week later. My hair was really simple. I wore blunt bang extensions to thicken up the blunt bangs I already had and smooth the shape because of a cowlick I discovered I had after cutting them in (no more natural blunt bangs for me). The extensions were about waist length. I sprayed heat protectant on the extensions and then ironed curls into them. After this they were BSL. Then I sprayed them with hairspray so the curls would stay. I did this 2 months in advance to the actual wedding so the extensions were just waiting to be used. I only wore them once beforehand while planning the look since I pretty much knew what I wanted and I needed long hair to pull it off. The theme I was going for was a Victorian ball gown (though looking back I'd love to have tried Georgian, but ugh the summer heat under such a wig and possibly pasty make-up...). I wore a feather pom clip-in. You can see some wedding pics on my page. We have hundreds of photos, but these are ones I liked enough to share while still keeping room for my length updates. They've got their own album.

I'm just forward to being able to do this style with my real hair minus the heat (though I'd still have to use blunt bang extensions since I'm growing my bangs out).

I don't know if you've already done so, but Pinterest is sometimes a really great source for pictures of wedding hair or hairstyles in general. At the very least, it can usually point you in a good direction.

I'm not sure how I'd want my hair. I guess I've always envisioned some sort of curly or waviness to my hair with flowers interspersed or a crown of flowers instead of a tiara/veil. However, I really love the classic/romantic updos.

I don't have any pics scanned in so sorry on the photo front. ( event 28 and a half years ago)

My hair was french braided both sides with white embossed ribbon and then the ends tucked in.

My white flower and pearl headband ( long vail attatched) then sat very nicely ontop.

( why braided ? Well my hair was only shoulder lenght. I didn't have this forum and my hair when shorter can birdsnest/ dredlock itself within minutes on a windy day. Garden Wedding)

I was (and still am) very happy with it.

Mine was pulled up in the front around the ear pieces of my tiara and the back left loose per my soon to be husbands request. I also had a veil that was pretty sheer. I'll post a pic when I can if you like.

If I ever decide to get married, I'd probably just wear my hair straight and down with the sides pinned back for convenience. Half-up would be pretty, too. I don't often see wedding styles/pictures where people wear their hair straight, so it would also make me feel a little different.

ETA: I've never been a fan of wearing an updo for my potential wedding. Somehow, it would not feel like me. I do wear updos when I'm out and about and I do enjoy creating different styles, but the primary reason I do them is purely out of practicality. I wore my hair up/back basically every day when I was a child, so maybe that's why it doesn't feel as special to me as it does for other people. I also feel more beautiful when my hair is down. Updos make me look like a mean lady. :p

It took a lot for me to come up with my wedding day hairstyle. In the end it was something I did myself with the direction of the lovely people here on LHC. I took inspiration from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPHEzUr5bWQ&list=PL7B73E797B72EFE96&index=5&feature=plpp_video

My hair was too long to do that exactly so I did the rope braid & ended it with a rose bun. I added some sparkles to match the rest of me.

I am so glad that I did it myself. No wasting time on the day of the wedding and it fit me more than anything they were trying in salons. I absolutely loved it!

I had always wanted to have tight curls (my hair usually will NOT hold a curl) so I got my friend to do it for the wedding. That and I couldn't afford a hair stylist. :P My friend has super long hair and always has it fantastic- I was really pleased with her creation :D

When I try to add the photo it's asking for a url. Probably a stupid question, but how to I add one from my hard drive? Is there a website I can upload them to that you folks use here?

Many thanks :)

The way I do it is upload a pic to Flickr first, then go to "see all sizes" and right click, select "get image URL." Then here, press the button that looks like a tiny pic of a mountain and a box will pop up for you to put the URL in. Hope that helps!

ETA: Oh, and at flickr, you have to select the size of the picture there. If that's how you're doing it.

The dress is a bit of a funny story. I bought it at a Ren Faire - because of my hair.

I tried the dress on and my friend and the dress shop owner and everyone around us started commenting on how great my hair and the dress looked together and that I had to buy it.

When I bought the dress, the shop owner begged me to wear it to the faire the next weekend after she altered it to fit. So I came back the next weekend and in a weapons vendor tent met the man I would later go on to marry - in the dress I met him in - that I bought because of my hair.

Yes, he has long hair, too. :)

I've been putting off posting in this thread because basically I'm too lazy to scan in pictures.

I don't have any digital copies because my wedding was waaaaaaaaayyy back in 2007.

My hair was APL at my wedding. I grew it out as soon as I knew I was getting married so I would be able to put it up.

When I went to the hair dresser I said, "I want it to look like a flower." So she really went to town. I swear it took like 2 hours but it was in a bun at the nape of my neck that was supposed to look like a chrysanthemum. It was very involved. About 25-50 loops with the ends poking out the middle (sorry, hard to describe). It was very nice, but by the time they got to take a picture of it it was kind of smooshed from veil wearing and my veil catching on fire (true story).

My favorite bridal hair is natural and down, but I was too self-conscious of the state of my hair (thin, stringy, damaged) to have it that way. Oh well.

Maybe if someone harasses me enough I will scan a picture. :p

I just...can't... quite do it yet :/

So I might try something like this:

....or I might just leave it down cause that's what my DBF loves best.

I really like looking at wedding pictures, people are so beatiful on their big day and everyone looks so happy.

if I ever get married (I´m an atheist and so is my DBF) I want my hopefully TBL or classic hair to be down or in a half up with flowers and loose waves.

That is so romantic! Thanks for sharing your story :blossom:

I'd love to see a picture of that, it sounds really intricate and beautiful! (Does that count as harassing?) I hope you didn't get hurt or burned when your veil caught fire, that sounds really frightening. How did it happen?

I think those are very pretty hairstyles. I love the natural look about them, I hope you can do your dream hairstyle for your wedding!

Does anyone else love those soft, flowing, half undone, natural looks but is too bothered by the hair flying around to get such a hairstyle? I can't stand having hair in my face for longer than 10 minutes and I'd always be afraid the hair will get tangled or clump together and not look nice. :o

I'm getting married in just under a month (6th June) and have had my hair trial so I know what I want but don't have a picture.
I wear my hair down a lot, and although it's just over APL now I have clip in extensions so my hair is being curled and the extensions clipped in.
I also have a circlet and a veil so a little of my hair at the sides is clipped up for the veil to go in and keep it out of my face

At the reception we were standing in front of the sweetheart table while our wedding party was being announced. I was standing right in front of our unity candle and I started so smell smoke and turned around to find that my veil was on fire. Nobody got hurt, I just ended up with a giant hole in my veil. Also I don't know if you've ever smelled burning silk but it is a really gross smell.

I'll see what I can do about getting a picture up. :D

Annibelle: The day I got married all my ends were different lengths and I didn't think anything would look good. The tight curls worked well IMO because it wraps the ends together in a polished way. Just a thought, if you were thinking of leaving it down or partially down :)

My wedding day hair was...a mess! My husband and I got married in late March years ago at Enchanted Rock State Park in Texas, which is where he proposed to me. It was cold, rainy, and the wind felt like hurricane force wind! I'd done my naturally curly hair straight that day and the weather made it pouf out of control, the wind made it a tangled mess. We don't even have any pics, it was just him and I and a pastor friend of his parents that married us, and we could barely speak cause the wind coming down off the rock took our breath away, and we had trouble getting the rings on because we were shaking from the cold, so we made it quick and hightailed it to somewhere warm lol. We thought it was hilarious, just the weekend before it had been extremely warm and beautiful.

But yeah, my hair was a disaster.

Mine was so simple it's sad now. lol. It was shorter and I did it myself because our wedding was thrown together very fast because my Dad had cancer and we didn't know what time would bring and we planned to get married a year later, but moved it up so we were 110% sure my Dad was there (happy we did, he passed away 10 months later in July and we wanted to get married that next Sept.).
It was just a half-up with a white lily looking flower ponytail holder. Like I said...sad. haha. We need to just renew our vows one day, since now I've got long hair to play with! ;)

Lachrymosa - What a unique story! Wow.

AspenSong - Aw, it's really cute. I like it

molly_grue - Your color is so lovely and what a precious smile you have.

I've started wondering about doing one of those sort of snake braids where it weaves across the back of your head a few times, but then continuing it down into the length, so the braid just zigzags across the length.

That description probably is not at all helpful! I'll have to attempt it and post a pic. lol.

ETA: Wait, I found it! Something like this perhaps http://www.princesshairstyles.com/2012/02/winding-snake-braid.html

I may be way over thinking this, but I want to do something that really shows off the length, but also is manageable and contained, but also is complex/fancy looking. If I did this winding all the way down my length, I think it might fulfill those desires. I should see how it looks on me and from the front, though.

Mine was not even shoulder length at the time, but I somehow managed to get it up in a bouffant-type thing. I wanted something vintage looking to go with my vintage dress!

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=9141&pictureid=119206

I slapped a fake flower (which looks almost as dark as my hair here!) on it to cover the bobby pins and called it a day!

Oh my goodness... wedding hair. I still have nightmares. What does any red-blooded girl do when she gets engaged? She buys about a million wedding magazines and tears out pictures of things she likes. I went to my hair appointment with all of these pictures of gorgeous, natural, loose curls. I showed the stylist what I wanted (I'd had a hair trial but some things changed in between then and my wedding day) and I should have known I was in trouble when she said "Oh, I'mma do you how I do all my brides!" The end result... was not pretty. I had BIG hair! I mean, Texas-big hair! It still upsets me to look at my wedding pictures. It was not my best day. But oh well... every day since has been wonderful. I just have to be thankful for that. And luckily, by the time the reception rolled around it had flattened out a little.

I love this thread! I am getting married in September and this thread is giving me lots of inspiration.

Right now, I am leaning toward a half up, with a poofy, boufant type thing at the crown with curls cascading down my back.

It has to be sturdy enough to support my veils and blusher and has to be able to stand up to some humidity/sweating...it is HOT underneath that wedding dress!

I had my heart set on a French twist but I never could get it to work... I watched and read so many tutorials and tried so many times but I still can't do it. I ended up doing a diagonal french dutch into curly bun at the nape of the neck.

I got married back in 2009 and I wore mine down, natural, with a single braid down the center.
Usually when I go out anywhere I have my hair up in a bun so that I don't draw attention; especially at special occasions. I figured that at my wedding I should get to show off my hair; plus it eliminated the need to buy a veil! :toast:

anyway, i'm not married, but i have been in a relationship for over 6 years and two nights ago i had a very detailed dream about marrying him, and my hair was wavy and half pinned-up. i actually remember sitting in front of a mirror and doing my wedding hair in the dream.. i took two little twists from each side and pinned them in the back, leaving the rest down.

this dream was seriously so perfect that i think i might do my hair like that for our wedding (if we get married? i'm being very presumptuous here!) in homage to my beautiful dream :o

I have no prospective future husband (:() but hey, that gives me lots and lots of time to grow my hair! ;) But, being the romantic I am, I have of course thought about it. I am hoping for classic or longer natural curls loose down my back (depends how far into the future we're talking), maybe pulled back from my face with a braid like Neorah's. And I'd like to wear my mother's dress.

I had half-up, with two french braids starting at the front, then I looped the ends around my crown. It looked just like Claire Dane's hair from Romeo and Juliette (her angel costume) but with french braids, and then I wove small flowers into the braids. Perfect and pretty for an elopement. :)

I love this! It's almost what I want.

I will have longer (CL) hair and braid waves, since my hair is straight. I have a bit more than a year to grow it and I'm 3 inches off of classic length, so the ends should be nice and thick by then.

I wish I could say that it was as beautiful as the pics here, but alas, no.
My husband has a condition that causes growths on his skin and psoriasis on his scalp. In the run up to our wedding, he got stressed and it flared up badly, meaning he had to shave bald in order to treat it. He was already stressed and self concious about the wedding as he is older and shorter than me ;) so I was sad to see him so low.
Sooooo....we cancelled our wedding that was a few months away, I swapped my gown for a white summer dress and got married (almost) secretly the following week :D
I shaved off all my hair to make him feel better about his baldness, so I got married with about an inch of hair in the end. I have no regrets :)

You have, by far, the most beautiful story I've read on this thread. The way you got married absolutely screams your love, respect, and support of each other, and that's better than any wedding picture. :)

Loving everyones pictures and stories! *squee*

I had a vintage dress, wanted to do vintage hair and vintage shoes but after striking out on the shoes decided not to bother with the hair. My hair was somewhere between APL and BSL at the time and I folded it back on itself and pinned it so the ombre ends stuck up every which way. It came loose on the walk to the court house and I couldn't get it back up by myself again and enlisted the help of my mom and aunt in the crowded waiting area while we were waiting our turn. So the wedding pictures show it up and down and up again.

I don't have digital copies and when I tried to take a picture of the picture with the computer it was too pixelated to see the hair. *sigh*

My hair was down and straight for my wedding (my whole head was bleached white blonde and my hair was flat ironed! Ughhhh yuck!).

That's such a wonderful story! :) More romantic than a pretty hairdo for sure!

Please ignore the terrible quality, these were pre digital era. So I took pictures of the physical photos. Anyway, my slightly-past shoulder length hair was half-up with a wreath of fresh flowers around it. It is naturally curly. My friend and I did it together.

Atira, I love the fresh flowers with your hair and veil. It suits you so well and you look wonderful in your pictures.

Very pretty!

For renewing my wedding vows, I wore my hair in the double braided bun that is in my avatar. That picture was actually from that day! On my actual wedding day, I wore my hair down, and it was a bit of a disaster :(. I decided to layer my hair about 3 weeks before my wedding and hated it. I don't know what I was thinking!

Ohh, there are so many lovely styles in this thread! I can't name everyone's, but thank you all for sharing!

I, too, wish I had known *anything* about hair prior to my wedding...but it was 20 years ago, and I had a hair disaster the year before. Since it was that long ago, we were still on the tail-end of the '80s perms and since my mom started perming my hair at age 7, I knew nothing else. So, a year before, I had a spiral perm on my long hair and it turned out too tight, so I tried straightening it (chemically) myself. I ended up cutting it all to above shoulder length to get back to healthy. When I did my portraits a month before the wedding, my sisters helped style it in a half-up with the ends curving under, but when I got the photos from that, I just didn't know how to accept myself without poofy curls, so I hated it and 3 weeks before the wedding, I went and had a perm put on it and layers put in.

That day I styled it with hot rollers as normal and poofed it to no end...looked nice for that time period worn with my mother's pearl tiara and a long veil down the back, but definitely not what I would have dreamed about for the day...:) Sorry, I don't have pics to post due to pre-digital era.

Mine was down and in big fat curls. It was before I knew how to handle my curls, so I had put it up in curlers and slept on it the night before. My sweet grandpa had offered to pay for me to get my hair done, but I'm too picky and haven't been happy with what I've ended up with in the past so I did it myself. When my phone recharges I'll take a picture of my picture and see if it works.

Here's mine :) I wish I had a picture of my headband (sterling silver ivy leaves and peridot gems) from the side that didn't show my face.
