Want to Trial / Test a new Hair Color For 7 Days? Try Kool-Aid! (PIC HEAVY)

Ever wanted to turn your red hair into brunette or your blonde to red, or green? But of course we don't want to damage it trying or risk not liking it and making it permanent with henna, so turn to Kool-Aid to try a new color for 7 days without it being permanent or damaged!!

You can dye your hair with regular Kool-Aid using this method I found on a website: How to Dy Hair with Kool-Aid (click) (http://www.wikihow.com/Dye-Hair-With-Kool-Aid). You just use the sugar-free flavor-only mix (those little ones that self for the average of 5/$1)

General Rules of Kool-Aid Dying
-Blonde and light-colored hair will show up much much more as the color being dyed (see pictures below for reference)
-The darker your hair, the more natural it is going to look (see pictures below for reference)
-The more porous (damaged or previously dyed hair) the more permanent it is going to be
-Red Kool-Aid is the most permanent as well as green
-As said, the more damaged the more permanent but generally most of the time it will last for about 7 days (that is 7 days of running water through it / washing / conditioning) and then wash out.
-More Kool-Aid in your leave in conditioner over night does not make the color better, from experience all it is going to do is irritate your scalp and make it really itchy so make sure you don't add too much Kool-Aid to your mixture.
-Make sure to clarify your hair and don't condition afterward, let it dry completely, and then apply your mixture
-If your hair is on the reddish side turn to blue or blue & green to get a brown
-If your hair is brown turn to red or red & orange to make yourself a redhead
-If you are looking to brighten your hair (much like Chamomile does) turn to adding some yellow to make red hair more bright or brunette hair more chestnut

I have had great success making my brassy red hair to a bright red that still looks close to a natural red (see bottom of post)

Are you sure those pictures aren't photoshopped?? I had a friend with platinum blonde hair, and it looked like that on her, but the blonde pictured looks a tad dark for it to be as vibrant.

Yeah the Blonde pictures do seem alittle photoshopped.

They are photoshopped I did it, it's to give you an idea of the outcome but the colors aren't exact. I'm just trying to show you how light and dark colors react to Kool-Aid. I did blue in my hair once and my hair turned out brown. What I did was what is called "overlay" in Photoshop where you add color in a stained glass type way like where you look through green glass the colors are the same but more green. That is what Kool-Aid does it adds a layer of color on top of whatever color you are dying. Again, it's not perfectly accurate but I looked at pictures online of people who have dyed their hair (both dark and blonde) and this is at least 90% accurate

This is so cool! I have a few Kool-Aide packets in the kitchen that are really tempting me right now!

When you say it lasts for about seven days, do you mean seven WASHES? I don't wash my hair every single day, so I'm curious if it would last longer. I hope it doesn't stain the pillowcase! :)

Cheap Kool-Aid
Now is the perfect time to try out Kool-Aid there are some coupons floating around buy 10 get 5 free (you can buy some on Ebay (click) (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4012.m570.l1313&_nkw=kool-aid+coupon&_sacat=See-All-Categories)) I bought mine at Winco they sell them 10/$1 and my Walmart sells them for 6/$1 check prices I'm sure you can find places where they sell Kool-Aid cheap. I just bought 20 coupons so I can get 300 packets for $20 that's the cheapest hair dye eva!!

Ascorbic Acid in Kool-Aid
I totally forgot that Kool-Aid has ascorbic acid in it which is great for removing hard water build up. So not only does it dye your hair it helps to clarify it too!

Kool-Aid would not give those pink and purple tints to hair (or anything else). Pink kool-aid is just light red (not as magenta as your touched photos), and purple kool-aid (grape) is a kinda dull purple. If you want bright pink or purple, you need to use a different kind of food coloring like icing gels or liquid food coloring.

They are to give you an idea they aren't 100% accurate colors. I did the charts to show you how darker hair will get more natural-looking colors and how blondes will get more unnatural colors. You can't get a perfect pink or purple with kool-aid however I was reading that if you mix a lot of pink lemonade and a little cherry it will give you the closest to pink and if you mix some pink lemonade or cherry with grape you will get the closest to purple.

I did this all the time when I was younger! Silly story, but when I was a cheerleader I often used red koolaid in my hair. I was a base, and in order to get the flyer on top of the pyramid (trying to use simple terms here!) she had to put her hands on my head to get a boost. Well, her hands were always stained whatever color I had put in my hair that week. Pretty sure she hated me. :D

If I were to do this now, I would only do under the canopy. I'm not so sure about stain factor, but I can see my blond hair absorbing that color and never letting go.
