Could I get some style ideas for long really thick hair for my friend? I'd love to practice on her hair. It is very hard to handle because it is so thick. But with practice, I hope to try new things. It's too heavy to wear up or do buns. She prefers to leave it down anyways.

Video tutorials are very helpful.

Thanks LHC!

I would suggest looking at TorrinPaige's youtube channel - she has lots of vids for long thick hair. :) http://www.youtube.com/user/torrinpaige

Also, try sectioned dos like the Braided Behive: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=130

The secret to hairstyling long, thick hair is to section it.

Thank you everyone. I get flustered with her hair. If I do a braid, her sections are so thick and long that it's hard to keep it together.

There's a thread called "Thick-Haired Folk Unite", I'm not sure how to link to it... but it has lots and lots of styles people have adapted for thick hair. It's a pretty large thread, but just so you know it's there...

The thing that surprised me most about styling thick hair is that thick-haired people need more length before they can do the same updos as everyone else. I'm past BSL and I'm just getting to the point where I can have secure updos that work for others at APL. Not that I'm complaining about having thick hair... I love it!

Good luck to you!

Excellent thread, I learn a lot there.

Also, couldn't agree more about people with thick hair needing mor length before they can do some styles. I am still waiting to gain length to be able to do certain buns most can do at waist length!

Yup. One of my favourite ways to do buns at my length (just above BSL) is to take the bottom section, wrap it around the rest, and then bun the remainder, as in this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=43) article.
