View Full Version : is my hair a wavy?!

ok, so i'm hoping this isn't just a random fluke and my hair will be like this on a normal basis. yesterday afternoon i did an smt, then washed my hair last night and put the leftover smt on my length. when i got out of the shower i scrunched my hair and wrapped it up in a t-shirt when i went to sleep. i woke up with nice waves, and when i scrunched it with some of my volumizing mousse it actually looks kinda curly! i'm just wondering if it's from where i had my hair braided yesterday (although, i think not, cause i washed it after i had braided it). my sister's hair waves when she goes to sleep with it wet, but hers is shorter and thicker, with layers. all my life my hair has been stick straight, and now the longer it's getting it has little s waves, so i'm hoping once i get back to completely virgin hair it'll be even wavier!

It does sound like you might be a wavy! :cheese: I don't think it's the braid waves either because wetting normall 'resets' the curl pattern. You can check out the wavy and wurly thread for tips on embracing your new found wavyness! Lots of people find the better they treat their hair the wavyer it gets, so I wonder what you will end up like! Also cones can cause waves to smooth out, trying cone free (if your not already) may extra increase those waves!

sounds like the scrunching and leaving to dry allowed your hair to find it's natural wave pattern more than usual :) What routine do you usually use, was last night a lot different?

thanks fridgee! i still have a HUGE bottle of coney herbal essences, so once i finish that stuff up i'm hoping to switch to cone-free. i'm so excited! the possibility of no more flatness is such a relief!

afu, normally i just shampoo/condition in the morning then let it air dry. lately i've switched to co-washing, but since my conditioner has cones it made a lot of buildup. i'm guessing since i loaded on the moisture and 'plopped' it on my head to sleep it helped it curl more.

Have you done a proper hair typing? Basically you clarify your hair and use minimal rinse-out conditioner and air dry without touching it. That's considered your natural wave pattern.

If you hair gets such pretty waves by just scrunching and sleeping with it in a t-shirt, it is probably at least a little bit wavy.

I would be really interested to see a proper hair typing photo!

:) thank you lapushka! you're the first person to ever say my hair looks nice. now i'm going to have to experiment with bringing out the waves without it looking like i didn't brush it. :o

You actually look like a curly to me. My hair looks like that when I've brushed it and it's well moisturised (if it's not my hair looks POOF when brushed).

I would try a hair typing session.
You know, wash, condition (cone free), finger comb a bit when soaking wet, squeeze excess water out and let it air dry without touching it. I think you'll have curlies ^^

i've just conditioned, then clarified and am waiting on my hair to dry, which is taking longer than usual because it's humid out. you can do it hair!

You're definitely a wavy! Looks 2b to me, maybe 2c with added care for wurly hair.

The wet picture, I'd say 2b, the dry one: 2a/2b.

You are a wavy! Welcome in Waves-land :-)
It's a strange moment when you discover this, but as soon as you'll get rid of the cones and treat your hair as a wavy, I think you'll get much wavier than this...

Gorgeous hair by the way!!!

Yay! Oh your hair is so pretty!!

I think it's 2b, but it's hard to tell if those are s waves or if they are stretched out ringlets.

ETA: If you are forming ringlets at your temples and the nape of your neck then I would call it 2c, but I can't see those parts! ^_^

thanks holothuroidea! i think they're more s-waves, the only ringlets i get are the little baby hairs around my ears that are only 4 or 5 inches long. i'm jealous of your shine btw! :)

Congrats!

isnt it weird how when you go through the actual hair typing you learn new stuff about your hair? Like I thought i was a 1b, but after the hairtyping im sure its 1c/2a. And I thought my hair would be like a ii or iii, (based off how many inches you can wrap around in a ponytail). iii's are 4"+ mine came out 6". Its actually pretty interesting to know.

wow, that is some fantastically thick hair! that's 3 times as thick as mine!
