So I've tried to research this...but aloe barbedensis juice! I've noticed it's a main ingredient in some of the shampoos that are currently on sale at the coop. Wondering:
1) is it a humectant and
2) is it awesome?
I know aloe itself is humectant...but I'm not sure about the juice. In my dry climate, I try to avoid humectants as they suck the moisture right out.

Thanks for any help!

AFAIK, aloe juice is a humectant. That's how I'm hoping it'll act in my homemade conditioner.

TASTES YUMMY!!!!

I am getting aloe juice for work tomorrow. The big jug. I love it, Middle Sister loves it, and Dad does too. Middle Sister could tell you why it's good for you.

Edit:
No I don't drink conditioner. But the Aloe Juice they make for drinking is good and I have a one track mind that focuses on my stomach and what makes it happy

So the giant jug of aloe vera juice they sell at the supermarket is for your hair too? I always wondered how that would taste. Is it sweet?

It can be. It can be used for a lot of things if it's plain old aloe with nothing in it. You can put it on hair, on skin, on burns and cuts. When it's just plain aloe it's a little bland and not tangy really but it has a little bite to it, maybe a bitterness, I don't know how to describe it really. And I have no desire to bite a chunk off my aloe plant and see, he's still tiny and only has a few leaves. When he gets bigger I will.

I like this brand for drinking: http://www.amazon.com/Aloe-Vera-Mangosteen-Mango-Drink/dp/B007PIAO2Y it has little aloe chunks in it and I am not above telling my coworkers they are boogers to gross them out. Yeah I know I'm 5. :cheese:

Be cautious taking aloe internally. It's not recommended for long-term use, only for constipation over the short term. (and even then, it's relatively harsh) Long-term use can cause irritation of the intestines and hepatitis.

Aloe Juice is great for misting. I use it on dry hair, whenever I feel like it. To lock the moisture in, I always use a few drops of oil or shea butter afterwards.
