What is a "pancake braid"?!

I keep seeing this term on pinterest and a hairstyle instagram I follow, but I don't understand it. I tried running a search on here and also googling, but I didn't come up with anything that explained this.

What does it mean to "pancake" a braid? :confused:

Thank you! That seems somehow more simple than I was imagining. But it gives me another question: does this work with fine and thin hair? Because I've tried something similar with my braids but it NEVER turns out this way.
