Hiya, please excuse my terrible one-handed typing.
Long story short, i managed to fall off whilst jumping in my riding lesson on thursday (not the horses fault, it was a big jump and i got nervous). Now my hair isn't overly long (19") and i've got a fringe and layers that i know i'll have no choice but to pin up, but i was wondering if there was anything besides ponytails and tails-up that i might be able to do one handed?

I won't be surprised if there isn't, but i figured it's worth asking :) unfortunately i can't get anyone else to do my hair for me because im in a lot of pain and can only get comfy in an armchair (standing hurts), but i've got to put up with it until next thusday when i'm going in for more xrays and to see a specialist to decide if it needs operating on.

Thanks in advance :)

Oh know that must be horrible! I can imagine how bad that must be for you. I vaguely remember when I broke my arm all I could really do was pin my fringe back for 4 weeks or so.

I offer my sympathies to you :(

Ouch, I'm sorry you have to go through this! I hope you recover fast and well.

I have no help, because I can't see me doing even a pony with one hand-only. But if you can, maybe some simple buns that can be held with and elastic/scrunchy or just a clip, like a bee-butt bun or a messy cinnabun? If it was me, I'd still need the two hands, but less than with a pony.

I'm so sorry. I have a shoulder injury right now and hair is really turning into a project :(

I hope your arm heals quickly.

There really isn't much that can be done one handed. If you can stand to sit up straightish for a little, ask a friend to do 2 braids on you. You don't need to stand or necessarily get out of your comfy chair, just be straight enough that they can get at one side of your head. Once the braids are in, you can leave them in for some time, and they're pretty easy to redo. This also lets you do scalp washes without too much effort, should you have to go in to the hospital for surgery.

Pretty much everything else is going to take more fussing with your hair on a day to day basis, and that means more pain. And yeah, it sucks pretty badly.

thank you very much everyone <3 im quite annoyed at the hospital for sending me home withot painkilers. had to go to my doctor yestrday and he's no happy with them either lol but he's got me on the strongest painkiller he's allowed to give out, which takes a bit of the edge off.

well, by a one-handed ponytail, it's super loose and doesn't really stay in for very long lol i did manage to try a bit of a cinnabun, but i had to use a claw grip on it because tying it there was't working xD

I think youre right though torrilin, i'll have to try and sit on a stool or something and get my mum to do a quick french braid to get back my layers, and hope it all stays in for the rest of the week!

I broke my arm when I was 11 years old. At the time my hair was probably about hip length and my mom was still helping my with my hair a lot. So I don't really remember it being an issue for me. On a side note I got fed up with my sling pretty quickly and subconsciously started resting my cast on my head if I was doing something with my other hand. :)

I hope you have a speedy recovery. I might look in to wide headbands or something similar (I love my Buffs). Did you break your dominant arm?

If you're comfortable wearing it down you can get away with a simple hairband to keep the hair out of your face.
Oh I just read you can get your mum to braid it for you, that's good :)

Hope you have a nice and quick recovery! :flowers:

I hope your arm heals quickly! Is there a way of doing a cinnabun/french twist using your broken arm to hold it in place while using bobby pins to pin it. you could always get somebody to put corn rows in the front which will last a week or two.

Good luck with you injury and heal quickly!
I broke my collarbone last year and I suggest you get a friend to help.
I was lucky and had a great gal next door who came over and washed my hair for me every couple of days in the sink. Ended up with some crazy hairstyles a few times but was great fun and much appreciated!

That's bad. :( Sorry you got hurt, but riding is such fun I'm sure you'll be back in the saddle ASAP! Hope you will not need surgery, that you're young and will heal up fast. Eat lots of protein.

As to your hair, I think it's going to be a depressing adventure, just keeping it brushed out and combed back will be a challenge. Any "spring loaded" clips or barrettes would be a good thing to have right now, as they'll work one-handed. A side braid might be workable, as you begin to feel better.

If you can do ponytails, you might be able to do banded ponytails, which would keep things more contained and help prevent tangles. Perhaps you could use some smaller claw clips in place of hair elastics. They might be easier to manage one-handed.

thankfully no, i didn't break my dominant arm :D unfortunately though, i broke it right up at the top - basically the ball part of the joint in my shoulder has broke off the length of the bone, so i can't lift it at all. it's in a wrist and neck cuff thing with my wrist brought right up to just under my boobs, so i can't really move it much anyway lol but it means that if i leave my hair down, it gets caught under the cuff and irritates my neck (can't be good for the hair either)

i had mum french plait it last night before we went back to the hospital to sort out some proper pain relief, but it got supr uncomfortable and i ended up ripping it out as soon as i got home. i think being in pain makes me less tolerant. but i've managed to dig out a headband and a couple of large clips that should be able to hold it all up off my neck. hmm... could try and get it in a banded ponytail and clip the ends up so that its off my neck in the day, then take the clip out so i ca get my head back onto the pilows at night.

thank you for the suggestions and input <3

i don't plan on stying off a horse for too long if i can help it lol the riding stables have said im fine to go up and watch lessons and things whilst im healing, so its not as though im giving up all horse contat thankfully <3
