Ya, ya, I know..... Attention whore that I am, I need another thread about my hair.....

But, I need some LHC help please !

I would like advice about wearing APL+ hair up. Since I cut my hair on Tuesday, I have worn it exactly the same way each day while at work - in a tucked french braid. It's pretty but it's already getting old. I need some simple, versatile styles for work where my hair is completely out of the way. I would like to have several different options so I don't get tired of just one or two.

So, what works for you ? If you have much longer hair now, what worked for you at my length ?

If you have missed my recent threads, I cut to barely longer than APL and it is heavily layered. It's a big change ! I am going to enjoy it and wear it down and fluffy on days off, but I am pretty clueless on updos now that I can't do my favorite bun.

YouTube videos, tutorials, detailed instructions, pics of your own hair - Please share ! I need all the help I can get.....

Here's what I have been wearing to work :

http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac282/beyondbeauty76/1e6104f9.jpg

Here's what I figured out just an hour ago when I wanted to put it up to wash my face, I put my hair in a high ponytail, used a thin dress sock to make a small sock bun - not the fully rolled kind - and then pinned the crazy ends a bit with bobby pins. It's cute and so far - super comfortable.

http://i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac282/beyondbeauty76/f70c4011.jpg

That's all I have figured out so far, so please throw suggestions my way. I have the weekend off and I am willing to try just about anything and besides, it might lead to some comical pictures ;)
Thank you in advance !!!

P.S. This shows my permanent eyeliner pretty well, I did it myself :eyebrows:
I am enjoying being bare faced more and more now that my acne is gone, it was BAD, but I just love having a bit of liner all the time. :cheese:
My brows are done permanently too, but just a few very subtle hair strokes to fill in bare spots.

Geesh, this got long. Not sure why I am sharing all of this but thanks for reading it !

How about a French twist? I imagine APL would be just about the right length for that style - no awkward extra tail left over to stick out, which is what always happens to me (^(oo)^)v

ETA: And chignons! I always wish I could do those, they look so elegant.

Have you tried a Gibson tuck or the nautilus since you cut? I know a few APL gals who make those work. Neither of those ladies have layers, though, so you'd probably have to do the nautilus pretty high up to keep the top ones back. Adding in accent braids might help, too, if you find little twigs that just won't go back. (I've had to be creative with my chin-length bits of regrowth)

French twist is a possibility, Gibson and Nautilus would require instructions because I never learned how to do them !

Peakcock twists work really well with layered hair at this length. Have you tried that with a flexi 8 or ficcare?

Hypnotica has a very good video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS-BQ5OMV2Y) on the Nautilus bun, but I doubt you can make one at that length with your super thick hair. I'm just barely iii, and I couldn't do one until around waist!

Just watched it, very awesome how she does that. Not even a remote possibility for my hair !

Peacock twist is a good idea, I have only ever held one with a giant claw clip and I found it to be uncomfortable. I will try a flexi and also a ficcare and see if those feel better. Thanks, julliams !

I agree with sock buns and french twists. I love this channel for hair. She used to have long hair and cut it shorter, right now it's about maybe a bit below shoulders so she has some creative updos. Here is one I like that combines your tucked french braid with a french twist (skip to 1:57 to start the hair tutorial) she has many other hair tutorials on her channel. I also love doing three separate cinnamon buns at the nape of the neck.

They can be funny at your length. Sometimes it's just the perfect "tree" at the top and other times it's just too long. If the "tree" is too long you can try this - at the start of the twist near the nape of your neck, make a twist like you were doing a bun, and then continue with the peacock twist. This eats up alot of length and can help with the look at the top.

You don't have to use sticks ofcourse.
I invented it when I was around APL and couldn't find a lot of things to do with my hair. The tucked French braid was also a favourite of mine.

Let's see.... I'm still learning about this hair up thing, but things I found easy to do so far:
Pencil / stick bun
French twist
A small braided bun (see avatar - that was at APL exactly)
A cinnibun
French braid
Crown braid (although I'm still working on the whole Dutch braid thing)
A knot
Loose bun
English braid
French braid up back of head from neck incorporated into a bun of your choice
Accent braids are fun
Rope braid (with layers wetting is necessary)
Half ups using things like braids or mini-buns

That's my limited list, and I have Long layers. I'm sure there's a lot more you can do.

Hope that helps! :)

Anyone have instructions ? I don't remember how to make one but I am positive I tried it when my hair was longer.

I vote messy boho crown braid! I do mine closer to the back of my head, so it's closer to resembling bun position however still obviously a crown braid. I think it'd look very pretty on you!

My only hair regret is that I didn't learn the gibson tuck when my hair was short enough to manage it. I would totally do that one style with pretty barrettes and be happy forever, if I was willing to go shorter.

Well, I don't have any advice for you but the sock bun is adorable and pretty much what I wear everyday!! I love the permanent eyeliner and would do anything to get it since because I am fair with light eyes they disappear without eyeliner. :(. What is the average price range for that if you don't mind me asking? Thx. :)

I don't think there really is an average, it varies wildly between regions. Here where I live, a great permanent eyeliner will cost you $400. Some places it's as high as $700. Picking a talented permanent makeup artist is the biggest challenge and the most important step, no matter the price :)

With your new layers (beautiful, BTW) you can have a lot of fun with a peacock twist - let the ends fountain up and out. You can vary the length of the ends based on where you let the twist end.

Also, I know you are fond of Caruso Curlers -- have you tried a smaller set of curlers with your new hair?

Try a cute braided [if possible] ponytail with a few layers to frame your face and try to loop the tail into a bun :)

Thanks for this thread. I subscribed. My hair itself is fine but there's a lot of it and it's poofy, lol.

I'm somewhere between shoulder and APL. I can do a peacock twist, a french twist, a half cinnamon bun thing that's flipped and held in place with a ficcare, and a french braid. The french twist and peacock twist are my best friends right now. YaYaLifestyle (already mentioned here) has some of the best options for new hairstyles at this length.

I would be really interested to hear more about how you got rid of acne. Your skin is GLOWING! I've had acne my whole life and it's better now that I'm a little older, but I still need makeup to look decent.

Do you have permanent mascara as well as the eyeliner? I'm so fascinated by permanent makeup. My lashes and brows are platinum blond so I'd love to have mascara that doesn't smudge.

Your hair is beautiful. I don't have any suggestions that haven't already been mentioned (peacock twist, gibson tuck, etc.) but all of those were really difficult for me at APL due to the thickness of my hair. I have a feeling yours is even thicker.

You could try a lace braided headband (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUYj2PRwD-I) and put the rest of your hair into a bun of your choice (sock bun, maybe?) and use the braid that's hanging down as an accent. I wore my hair like this earlier this week and got some nice compliments on it. :)

There is also the Masara, which gives a cool, 3D effect. LaDollyVita33 has made a tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aj5QW8uzUXU) that shows how to modify it for shorter hair.

That's all I can think of for now. I hope this was helpful to you! :flower: I adore your new haircut, BTW!

Two perimeter braids at overlapped at the back to make the 'Princess Braid". It can work with all your layers since you're only braiding the ends.

This made me think of the cameo bun! I don't know if your hair is too thick to do a cinnabun even as a halfup, Ultrabella, but perhaps that could work? Doing a cinnabun using a little more than half your hair, braid the bottom half and wrap it up around the bun?

I think my hair is too bulky for this, the thickness eats up my length too much, and I barely have any length anyway now ! I love the look though, so I am still going to try it but I am fairly certain it will be a fail, lol.

Omg, that would be adorable! After it's curled, you could pin it up in a messy random updo in the back and let the tendrils fall in the front. I can imagine that would be an adorable look on you, very romantic.

Or you could pin up some of the curls and fake a curly bob. Curls can be very fun at shorter lengths.

Digging the new look, UltraBella!
