My hair is shoulder length & I want to start protecting the ends of my hair too, I've just learnt to do a gibson tuck.

Braids, little buns, twists.

There are loads of styles you can try! You can also try hair toys to keep things interesting. My favorite type of toy is a flexi-8

Between Shoulder and APL (last time I grew my hair out) I think I had more damage from ponytails (elastics) and then peacock twists(Flexi-8s) day in and day out (when my hair was wet), than I would have leaving it down more often. My ends weren't the problem, it was breakage at the back of my head from putting it up the same way all the time.

This time around, I will let my hair dry down, try to mix up the styles, use softer hair accessories, and looser updos.

I can just now do a lazy wrap bun if I do it high enough on my head. I like that I don't have to twist to get it up there. I found it holds well with a flexi 8, a single hairstick, or a bent knitting needle.
