Hi LHC!
For those who may recall, I've been experimenting with no-heat styling methods and posting them here. The latest hair tool I've managed to get my grubby little mitts on are Curlformers:
www.curlformers.com
I'd never heard of these until someone on here mentioned them. They appeared to be the perfect solution to the wonky curls I tend to get from wrapping. I miss the perfect curls I could get from a curling iron, and for some reason I have yet to master the Caruso. Perfect spirals, here I come!
The story: I used the extra long and wide ones. (I also bought the wider ones for looser waves, I'll update you on those later!)
I spritzed my hair and put them in last night at about 8pm. They were easy to put in once I got the hang of it--the key is twisting the hair that goes in the hook, and making sure it's damp enough. I probably could have used fewer Curlformers, thus creating a looser curl look overall, but I wanted to pretend I have naturally curly hair today. I used about 1/2 inch sections.
I went to bed at 11p.m., and at 2 a.m. woke up and couldn't go back to sleep because they were so uncomfortable. I'd heard that putting them in at ear level instead of at the root helps with sleeping, but alas, I could not stand it so I took them out. They were 99% dry by then so I was able to loosely bun the curls on top of my head for the rest of the night and they are semi-decent today.
The verdict: The results are AWESOME! The curl is more voluminous and spiral-y than any other method I've tried. They also seem to be holding better...it's been three hours since I woke up and they have not fallen one bit. I did not use any product on them.
I think that there are two secrets to these:
A) put them in early in the evening, perhaps using some aloe in addition to the water, and then take them out before bed and lightly pin curl or bun them in the shape they've taken on for bed.
B) put them in in the afternoon before a night out on the weekend--in which case I will go all the way to the root and hopefully get perfect spirals.
Starting with slightly damp hair (as opposed to sopping wet) would probably help with both of these methods, so they dry faster.
Now for the pictures!
