Hei!
I've been researching Henna on and off for about a year now, but I always reach the conclusion that my blonde (almost white-ish after summer) is simply too receptive for its dyes and will go orange if anything. I love love love red hair but I don't want to risk my current hair color for half-way! I've mentioned it to a few of my hairdressers but they all say that it's a bad idea and they advice me not to (and this is not hairdressers that are frightened of henna in general, she uses it herself, it's just the dyes that wouldn't suit my hair).
I've heard of mixing with indigo, adding various oils or tea etc. but does anybody have an example story to tell? And I would absolutely love to see before/after pictures of someone who has hennaed their blonde blonde hair! :)

Thanks!

My hair wasn't very light in color at the time, kind of mid-range golden blonde, and it most definitely went orange in direct light, kind of brick color out of direct light. Plus it dried out my hair and made it brittle at first, although that calmed down. I really can't recommend henna, but there are plenty of people who love everything about it.

Maybe try something less permanent for a temporary change?

Thanks, I appreciate hearing your story. Do you know of anything that isn't damaging to your hair?

I find the Manic Panic type dyes to be like a deep conditioning treatment; my hair really loves them. However, the colors aren't very realistic.

If you have very light hair henna will not give you red. It will be a very bright orange looking colour at best. If you saturate it enough through repeated uses or addition of amla you might get more of a rust red.
But if you are looking for red red (or wine red) you won't be able to get that on light hair with henna alone.

Thank you :) Guess I'll stay far away from it then.

For what it's worth, my husband uses a combination of henna and indigo on his beard, which is largely white. That makes it a pretty decent reddish brown. (I don't think I have a picture uploaded with the current mix, but if you're interested, I do have photos in my albums from when he was using henna and buxus.)

However, indigo tends to fade on many people, him included, so his white hairs start to look orangey if he neglects coloring for long. (DH can't go too long, since he keeps his beard at about the 2-week length.) And henna really is not reversible. If you're not ready to commit to being a redhead for a long time, you should use something less permanent.

I know some people use manic panic OVER henna, while they're still getting the color right. :)

if you want red red try manic panic. if you like it and want it more permanent there is henna hut henna. their red comes out more candy red than regular henna... it does kinda fade after awhile but I think you'd be safe to keep reapplying it on blonde hair.

This was my result with applying straight henna to my very blonde hair. And let me tell you, it never washed out; I had to cut it out. But I liked it for the time being.

I am not the blondest of blond but here are pictures.

Virgin Hair:

Slightly darker then I liked and one step away from the darkest I went.

Really fun picture, under my bun is my virgin hair, on top of my head is my growing out but also slightly lightened and modified color hair and then the big streak is on my lightest of hair at my temples and I either miss or was just stuck red.

I don't have light colored hair, but I like to save clean hair (post wash) from my combs when I want to try something (like henna). I test it on the collected hair first. If I don't like it, no problem, it's not on my head.

I love that color! I'm planning on bleaching a blonde streak and then using henna to get something like this (only a streak because getting my hair light blonde is difficult).

I am pretty sure it is the side walk way entrance thing to the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. I know it's in Las Vegas and it is the side walk way to one of the hotel casinos for sure, I am just not positive it is the Bellagio.

It might be The Wynn casino.

My dear you are correct!

You've just solved a 2 long year mystery as to where the heck I am standing. I was in fact inebriated when we visited the wynn, no wonder I don't remember! Thank you for figuring out because I am sure I never would have.

This was my hair when I used henna for the first time on my platinum blonde hair (bleached). I hated it so much, I dyed it a dark red with some chemical dye afterwards! It was NEON orange D:

ooh picture is huge sorry :(

BlondieHepburn that is my dream colour!! I wish mine would get that light, but it's more brownish :(

If you want a deep red sometimes i mix up my henna with about 1/3 cup of manic panic vampire red.
