View Full Version : Would you rather...

Would you rather have visibly over-oiled hair for a while or dry hair?
I ask because sometimes I don't wash my EVOO out perfectly but I don't mind. I figure in a couple of years it'll be super healthy and shiny and I won't need to oil it as much! :)

With my hair type it looks very lank and greasy if I over-oil it, so out of the two choices I would prefer it to look slightly dry if I'm out and about.

I would rather it be dry, because then all I have to do to fix it is oil it, which takes about 30 seconds. But if my hair is too greasy, I would have wash it, detangle it, dry it, which would take about an hour.

Wow, your replies are great! Silly me, I was sure oily would win by a landslide! I have thick hair so I don't mind having it a bit oily, I just bun it and no one notices!

Probably oily because when my hair is too dry, I get way more splits and frizz.

Definitely dry. Although, I've never tried any oils in my hair, so I don't know what it likes or dislikes, but you gotta start someday.

I'd rather have dry, because I know what oily looks like on other people..........don't ask me who..........

Yeah im all about condition. Im at apl & goal is tbl & I wanna get there as fast as possible, so if that means oiling often to keep splits at bay then thats what ill do. I dont go out much these days anyways, or if I do theres always dry shampoo. I feel the same as you, curlysasha, if i look after it now it will be long & gorgeous in no time & then I wont have to oil as often once its there.

I have coarse, thick, wavy hair that I constantly play with. As a result, I get the "poof" a lot more frequently than I would like. Unless it's styled to the teeth, it's going to look dry even when it isn't, so I'm used to that. Besides, I hate it when I have oily roots, I feel gross.

My hair is perfectly straight so if there is even a little extra oil in it, it looks stringy. I bet on curlies though a little extra oil just looks like nice shiny hair

I pretty much over oil my hair all the time, because my hair is so dry.

Over-oiled. Makes my hair feel thick and softer. I am talking about natural oil/sebum. Not olive oil or others, those make my hair feel crunchy.

Over-oiled, definitely. It will soak in within a day or two, leaving my hair lovely. :D

neither over-oiled hair or dry hair is perfect. You should use hair conditioners to care your hair avoiding too dried or over-oiled;

or still not satisfied with your hair, use a lace wig for changing. click here (http://www.lacewigsbuy.com) and you can find more surprises!

Thick, dry and curly, so I'm always going to choose over oiled over dry. You just can't tell in my hair if it's over oiled, but it looks awful when it's too dry.

My hair doesn't like oil, the most it will tolerate is a small amount of Argan oil. When I've tried other oils it looks and feels disgusting. I never get split ends anyway...

My hair can definitely get away with having a LOT of oil in it and I'd rather it looked over oiled than dry because I'd have a frizz halo and my curls wouldn't form properly if it was dry.

Over-oiled, that's what updos and plaits are for.

Slightly dry. My hair is fine, so having it a little on the oily side would make it very flat.

I can't choose, because my hair doesn't like oil at all and I've tried differtn ones, none works for me. A little bit (pnly drops!) in shampoo is okay, but no kind of oil-treatment. But I don't think my hair looks dry, either...

But else, I'm thinking quite like arielįgua.

Over-oiled. I have curly hair so the oil with hold my curls together and make look great. If my hair is dry it's starts to get very frizzy.

I choose over-oiled, although it's a close one for me. But I usually do have over oiled hair, since it gives my flyaway hair 'weight'.

I'd rather my hair look over oiled if I didn't wash my oil out properly then it be dried out. I figure it's better my hair has that extra oil in it as opposed to be dried out as my hair is pretty fragile on the lengths.

Definitely over oiled ends. I just bun it. Much better for the hair. I have dry hair.

When my hair's dry, it frizzes out in an attempt to rejoin the 1980s from whence it came. :p I'd pick over-oiled any day.

I'd have to say a little dry. My fine hair gets weighed down easily with oil. If it's a little dry, the ends don't look stringy.

While having dry hair is worse for my hair, I would rather be seen with over-dry hair than over-oiled hair. My hair when it is too dry simply looks a little frizzier. My oily hair looks lank, dirty, and gross (I don't feel this way about greasy hair on everyone, just mine looks pretty bad).

I always have oil in my hair, but it generally doesn't look over-oiled. If I had to wear it down, I'd rather it be a little dry looking, if it's up, then put it in an up-do and it'll be fine most likely.

I would prefer a little dry, my hair is straight fine and ashy. It can easily look bad.

I voted over oiled, though it depends on if it's down or up. I found if it's up, it looks better over oiled, but if it's down, my hair is so fine I'd rather have it look a bit dry.

JamieLeigh

I'd definitely go with over-oiled. I wear it up or at least back (braids and ponies = back, to me) 99% of the time, and with my regrowth halo, I'd be dealing with a lot of frizzy fly-away hairs sticking out all over.

Depends.. on my hair now, I'd vote dry.. but if it was long enough to bun, oily by a long shot :P
Oily short hair looks ew on me.

I agree that oiliness on short hair can look.. not great. Bun oily buns and braids looks shiny and awesome! :D

Over oiled makes me feel like I appear to not care about my hygiene, although I would know the truth it still makes me self conscious in front of others. I have thin hair and over oiled hair makes it super stringy and yucky looking.

I know, it's a sad truth. I stick with over-oiled hair anyways, because my hair's become so much healthier as a result, and just try to clean it on the days that I'll be out and about. But my family thinks I'm going all hippie on them, and my sister always asks me if she'll get oily hair when she gets to be my age. It's so frustrating! :(

If I have dry hair, I wash it. And I use oils before washing. If hair is dry and it“s coated by oil, hair can dry more.
If I would over-oil it, I would mist my hair with water first.

I'd go for 'slightly dry' any day, it looks & feels way more tolerable than over-oiled (imo).

Lucky are those who have the kind of hair that no one notices if it's oily ;) Didn't know there was such, but from several replies it seems so.

Slightly dry. My ends are like that sometimes and I find that a couple drops of oil are enough to fix it, while oily hair needs to be washed and conditioned and it takes longer.

My hair is way too oily, and it does show. I used to think it was a bad thing, until people started to complement it.

I noticed that the more I tried to make it not look oily (washing every day) the more oily it got. Now that I oil it, and it's well moisturized, it behaves a lot better.

So I'd rather it look oily, because then I can put it up and forget about it, than dry. My hair gets static when dry, and loses all it's natural curl.

I voted for over oiled because I have found that if you comb it smooth as you put it up in a bun it looks really slick and healthy/shiny and no one even knows that it is oiled as long as you cover the roots with a scarf or headband (my go to is a Buff). Also, my hair is quite slippery when it is dry and that makes it harder to keep in updos.

My hair starts looking stringy a couple of days after washing even when it's on the dry side, so over-oiling is a horror. It's not long enough to put up properly, either, so I can't disguise oiliness with an updo. Except maybe something like cornrows, which takes way too much time for me to bother.

Definitely a little dry looking. If that's the case, I can just oil it, and we're good to go.

Oily - I imagine it's healthier than dry hair (could be completely wrong with this though). I have quite dry hair, if I had oily hair I'd probably vote dry - grass is always greener on the other side :) .

Oily! As a matter of fact, my hair is slightly oily right now because I didn't wash out the oil properly yesterday. I quite like it, it makes my braids look really nice and shiny, and it keeps them smooth. ;)

i'd definitly go for over oiled on my lengths, it adds definition to my curls and controls frizz. My hair is quite dry due to heat damage so i CO wash, add more conditioner to lenghs when partially dry, then coconut oil. If i over do the oil i can always put it up. On my roots i hate it to look at all greasy though so never apply oil there, the combination of less damaged hair and CO routine tends to keep the root/crown/fringe area good though.

Definitely oily! My hair is naturally rather oily anyway and yes, it does become very lank and greasy looking when over-oiled (see my most recent growth picture in my signature!) but I prefer it oily for several reasons. I wear it up most of the time anyway which makes buns and braids much easier, neater and more shiny looking, I feel that greasy/oily hair is healthier in the long run but most importantly I just cannot handle my hair when it's too dry! The only time I really experience this is just after using henndigo (which strips out ALL the oil) and I'm actually afraid to touch my hair, much less run a brush through it or put it up. It feels horrible, tangly and brittle and I'm terrified that I'm going to start getting massive breakage any second. Dry hair feels totally alien to me!

ETA: My siggy has been updated and the over oiled picture is gone! If you want to see it for any reason (though I can't imagine why, it's awful) then it's in my albums ;)

If it were over oiled I could always Dutch braid it or pin it up. If it were dry I'd always be afraid of breakage, and I would get a flaky scalp . . .

Noone really gets to see my hair most days aside from my fiancé anyway, but I'd much rather have greasier looking hair that I could hide in a braid than hair I was worried about damaging. It gets so tangled when dry too :(
