It looks like you maybe don't know how to care for your hair's natural curl pattern. The information for washing, drying, and styling looks good in this to me: http://www.wikihow.com/Follow-the-Curly-Girl-Method-for-Curly-Hair

I know other curlies who struggled with their hair and have nice, bouncy, and defined curls after trying out this method.

I agree. It looks like you are combing/brushing out your natural curl pattern when what you need to do is enhance it. Plus add moisture.

I agree with the others. maybe do some CO washing and some moisture treatments. I also think your hair might be very damaged from the heat styling.

Here's another useful website for curly hair: http://www.tightlycurly.com/technique/curlyprimer/

I would hazard a guess you are a lot curlier than 2c/3a, from that picture. I am a 2c and my hair looks nowhere near as curly as yours...

I definitely agree with CO washing. It is a miracle for dry hair.
And everyone's hair always benefits from cutting out heated styling tools! :)

I agree with everyone else. I'd guess you're probably at least a 3b, maybe a 3c. Learning some curly methods will help you a lot!

You seem to have similar texture to my daughters although their hair is curly. I would start with a clarifying shampoo once then, switch to a gentle sulfate free shampoo and a very moisturizing conditioner that has lots of oils and butters in it like Shea, Coconut, Mango Seed, etc.
I would even try using some heavy conditioner as a leave in after it's towel dried.
Definitely don't use heat products and use a wide tooth comb to detangle when wet.

Good luck...be sure to let us know how things go.

I also agree that maybe you are much more curly naturally than you think and perhaps need to come up with a routine to embrace that. I second the tightlycurly website and also www.naturallycurly.com for additional tips. Also there is an ongoing curly thread here in the main forum that may also help.

Just think, before you know it you'll be throwing around words like CO wash, plopping and scrunching like you've always used them! :) I agree with the others. With curly techniques you've probably got amazing curls. Enjoy the fun and excitement of figuring out what works best for you and your hair.

IMO you are a curly who has been treating your hair like a straighter/wavy haired person.

1. Don't brush. Finger detangle when your hair is wet.
2. Conditioner only wash or condition/shampoo/condition wash.
3. Don't rub your hair while drying it. Use a t-shirt and wrap your head/hair in it and squeeze the water out and then let it air dry if you can.
4. Leave in - either aloe gel with a bit of conditioner, conditioner as a leave in or a bit of aloe gel with a little bit of oil worked through your wet/damp hair and let air dry if possible.

My hair would look like yours if I brushed it but more "poofy"

If you own a brush, throw it away, cut down on the heat and follow the advice of all the other members. It looks like you have gorgeous curly hair just waiting to come out! :) Best of luck.

Take away the heat! Not doing wonders for your length

Try COing, not all the time but perhaps half of the time? So if you wash your hair twice a week, CO once a week and shampoo/condition/whatever you typically do once a week
