From recent urges to dye my hair ginger it has faded LOADS and is now a boring goldenish ginger (edging more towards brown) and I dislike the colour.... wanting to dye a very bright blonde so that i can speed up the blondy process I adore so much and get rid of this colour....
BUT
I know it will damage it alot alot alot.
So do i wait and baby my hair until the roots are long (i know it will look awful and i will hate it) or do I just get my urge over and done with and nurse it back to health afterwards?

What would you do?

You could use a color remover like Color Oops or Color Be4, to remove some of the color you have now, with minimal damage, then use a low volume peroxide.

I would oil my hair with coconut oil, leave it in over night, then bleach on the still oiled hair to protect it (The uses of coconut oil (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=53786&highlight=coconut+oil)).

For after care I would do heavy pre-wash coconut oiling (before every wash), and an SMT (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=128) (deep conditioning treatment) at least once a week, maybe even switch to CO washing (http://longhaircommunity.com/forums/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=18). Cassia (http://www.mehandi.com/hair/cassiaobovata.html) can also help, once a month as a moisturizing gloss (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=154).

Good luck! :)

I would choose the goal most important to me.

lol..I was in your same position, and I couldn't wait and dyed it... In my opinion it was worth it because once I reach my goal length I'll just trim every month until I get rid of the damaged part... But for me it was ok since I have so many things to grow out (fringe, undercut) so I was going to have to trim eventually, dye or not dye.

IMHO you should dye it, since one way or another you will be cutting that part off*, ginger and healthy or blonde and porous.

*(or that's what I understood from what you said)

I really did not know that coconut oil can help prevent damage from peroxide, i'm so so glad you told me this... learn something knew everyday :D very very happy now

and thankyou for your help guys, i have decided to dye it and just trim like you said Nymphspirit because as you say i would have done this anyway. :)
