Hi, I am new here and have a question.
What advice do you have for taking care of a scalp that is dry, with a cut on it?

Well, the first thing that came to mind was neosporin on the cut so it doesnt get infected.
After that maybe a little oil on the scalp to relieve the dryness?

I'd say neosporin (antibiotic cream) as well, to help it heal faster.

How do you know your scalp is dry? Is it flaking? if it is, it could in principle be something to do with the products you are using, or the frequency of washing, etc.

Can you describe your hair care routine for us?

I would recommend Neem oil. Works wonders!

Welcome! :flower:

Yes, take care of the cut first, with Neosporin or something similar as Amanah and bumblebums suggested, then worry about the dryness :) Definitely tell us a bit about your routine if you don't mind, then we can probably help you better. ;)

Thank you! :-)
I wash my hair every other day with conditioner only and whenever I feel the need to I will do a shampoo and conditioner wash. I use extra virgin olive oil once or twice a week on my hair and scalp.

Tea Tree Oil is fantastic for scalps and healing. There are many brands of shampoo that have tea tree oil in it. I put it on my husbands scalp all the time for his dandruff.

Welcome to LHC!

Your scalp needs to be kept clean, as usual, and this may help, http://ktanihairsense.blogspot.ca/2012/03/dry-skin-dry-scalp-and-dandruff.html

Mineral oil, USP/BP the kind used in baby oil is used and recommended for wound management. You can buy it unfragranced too. It is sold that way for laxative use and cutting boards. I would avoid ones labelled "heavy", as they may be more awkward to use but are just as safe.

ETA: Topical use of neem oil can cause dermatitis, not something you need the posibility of right now, in my opinion, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18627678
"Both systemic and contact reactions have occurred with the use of neem oil. We report a patient who presented with an acute case of contact dermatitis on the scalp and face after the use of neem oil for alopecia ..."

ETA:2 Tea tree oil adverse effects. ETA:3 It can further aggravate your dry skin and cause some pain and discomfort.

Thank you ktani :)

You are very welcome.

I would avoid the other oils and go with the mineral oil. It will not cause you pain and can help you heal faster as well as help moisturize your scalp.

ETA: If you are at all sensitive to fragrance, buy pure USP/BP unfragranced mineral oil.
