Saw a video for this and figured i should share the results. The DH thought it was pretty neat and it just may be my new personal favorite.

p.s. i am not a dutch braider, just can't figure it out. I am a french braider. It happens :) haha

I'm a Dutch braider and compared with yours, your braid turned out well than mine would if I tried a French plait.

Thank you :) Mine looks a little messy towards the right side but that's because i like the messy look in the front. We should both do a braiding challenge and tackle those pesky braids that we just can't seem to do!

This is lovely. I am a dutch braider and I did the same hairstyle for the premier. I quite liked it and would like to try it again. I think yours looks much nicer than mine did though. I suppose I'll just have to keep on practicing!

I love this braid, its been one of my everyday hairstyles for a couple months. This week I'm doing 2 French braids that meet at the nape of my neck and ends with side braid, its a slight variation of loepsie's spring braids. My hair isn't as long as yours so I'm envious of your braid :D

I have been trying this myself! I can dutch braid well, but am having trouble with whole braid angle, mainly my issue is the switching hands as the braid comes around to the side. I've almost got it, my last attempt was not good enough for public viewing, but at least had the basics down. I just need more practice. I love the idea of a sideways dutch braid!

It's a great hairstyle, my favorite part is the fact that i have layers, and my hair tends to fall loose along the nape when i do side braids so i have to bobby pin it, but with this braid i don't have to. Keep rockin it!

YES!!! That was so tricky for me. I'm surprised i didn't twist it up more than i did. You can't really see detail in the front of the braid because i had to get further away from the camera (webcam) to get the whole thing so there wasn't enough light. It's a little messy. Keep at it though! I'm gonna dedicate this weekend to learning to dutch braid :)

I have a pic in my album of a double french braid leading to a single braid! I love braids so much, never thought of doing two frenches into a side braid! Geniusss

Thank you!! I am so jealous of her hair too. It's so thick and shiny, makes me wonder if they put extensions in it to add volume for the film or if it is really the actresses natural hair. I would imagine it to be very hard to have long hair in Hollywood when part of your job is getting your hair fried 3-10 times a day!

Have you tried trimming it? My ends used to be really thin until i had it trimmed up properly and it made a HUGE difference

I go swing dancing for fun, and the longer my hair gets, the more creative I have to be, so it doesn't get caught up in the lead's hands, and also doesn't whack him in the face (not nice)!

I do a side braid like that a lot, I love it! I also have to use bobby pins in the back, otherwise some hair escapes. :) The braid 'round the back eats up some length, and also keeps it swinging low, and not in his face! I also like to add flowers or a big bow headband. (I am addicted to both of those!)

Its not just my ends, my hair is just thin and fine naturally, I'm barely a ii. My circumference is about 2.5-2.75".
But its ok, thin hair has its pros too :)

My mom has thin hair too and i was always jealous that she never had to do anything to it. Didn't even really have to brush it, it just looked soft and smooth naturally.

I haven't actually seen it yet either, just pictures. I'm taking my little brother to see it this coming weekend for his birthday. It's incredibly functional which is rather surprising.. i have seen several hair styles in movies that when imitated just wouldn't hold properly without a team of hair stylists following you around

This is the one photo I've found online-I've played with the levels to get it a bit more visable, it's a very dark photo!
As you can see, it's hard to tell just what's going on there, but I can see rope braids over the top, loose 3 strand braids at the back, and it that basket weave with wire (maybe leather thonging?!)?!

I love the look, but I'm "braid challenged " :p I seriously can't do a decent normal braid yet... I just muck it up in all sorts of ways. I have my sister in law braid my hair for me if I want it in anything other than a simple lopsided sleep braid. ..and yes, I realize how rediculous that is :D I mean, I'm a grown woman it shouldn't be that hard to do ! :)

I think I will make it a goal this year to learn at least one cool braid ( like this one) and an updo that isn't just my hair thrown up in a clip. :p

Just a quick note cuz no one seems to have noticed it, in the movie she actually has TWO braids with that style. One is the diagonal dutch, and one is a thin english braid that goes down the other side of her head and joins into the dutch braid. I've seen the movie twice now and it was only on the second watch through that I realised. XD

I've only seen pictures of the braid, haven't seen the movie yet. This is a rather interesting development in the style. i will have to look this up and see what you are talking about. Seems pretty neat but it must be rather miniscule for it to go unnoticed so long

I spotted it too-just saw the film today :) going to try it out myself later. I'm currently wearing her single Dutch braid ;)

Edit-I think it actually has 2 braids joining into the larger Dutch braid-one from the crown in the same side as the Dutch braid starts, and another at the front on the opposite side. I'm looking for pictures :)

I do a to the side french alot... mostly to keep the fat braid from lumping on my back. It really is one that gets better the more you do it.

I suppose I could practice my dutch more... I was going to before this movie came out... but now it will be a Katniss instead of just a braid. :/

And I liked the movie too... I just don't want to be trendy, LOL!

The day after I saw the movie I had to try this! It turned out great, was easier than I thought and I loved it.

Today I tried doing this when we went for a motorcycle ride and it was perfect! Before I had been doing a french braid but I hated how my hair got whipped around in the back even though I put a wrapter on the tail. This way its good and snug under the helmet and the side part is tucked into my shirt and doesnt whip around so much and I dont have to worry as much about it.

I started doing this months ago, both Dutch and French style. I usually bun the braid tail because I don't like to wear it down at work. I like it because it's all up and out of my way, but it's a little different from just a regular French or Dutch braid.

So apparently the actual hair stylist from the film did a Skype tutorial with the Cute Girls Hairstyles mom! I didn't see this posted so I thought I'd tell you guys...:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpVnRZJCGhI

The braid is indeed a single diagonal french dutch that follows the nape of the neck. The hairstylist also says the braid does not change throughout the movie -- when you see that style, it's just the one braid.

Hope that helps!

I hope they did, it sounds cool! I was going to wear the braid to see the movie, but my hair wouldn't coroperate...typical. So i wore it down instead, I was pleasently suprised to see that Katniss has hair similar to mine in the movie, even when loose, pretty freaking awsome!

Those braids are BEAUTIFUL! I have no where near long enough hair to do that, but I did wear my new arrow hairstick to go see the movie with my son this evening. I liked it very much.
I will love to do the braid in a million years when my hair grows long enough. Until then, I can just look at the lovely pictures on here of the ladies that can pull it off!
