I love men with long hair.. always did :D.
Though I don't like very fancy long haired guys, I'm more into metalheads lol.

Personally I LOVE guys with long hair, so much so that it is mandatory in a partner. I struggle to find men without long hair attractive. It's possibly due to my 'eavy metal background. Some men can't carry it off too well, but some look great with long hair, as long as it's between straight and wavy(ish) However, it only really works for me if it's part of a guy's look, like, for instance he's a musician or likes metal; if that makes any sense!
Oh and, obviously, I'm a female!

There are a couple of other threads here in regards to long hair on men. It's not universal, but I think you'll find that most of the women here like long hair on men as long as it's well taken care of. I know I do! ;)

If you could poll all the women of the world? I dunno what the majority would say...

Welcome to the community, kahuna- hope you enjoy your stay! :)

Some guys look really cool with long hair. It's not my personal preference in terms of a partner, but to each their own, I say! If I were still looking for a boyfriend, I definitely wouldn't pass a guy up if he happened to have long hair.

Some of the most amazingly beautiful long hair I've ever seen was on a guy who worked in a local bookstore. It was probably classic-length, F/M and well-kept and healthy! I think as long as it's taken care of, guys can look wonderful with long hair.

One of my friends had BSL (would guys still call it BSL, I wonder?) hair and he looked amazing with it. It just suited him so much. He eventually cut it, and still looks good, but I still think that long hair looked better on him.

It definitely seems to have become more acceptable for guys to grow their hair long these days. You'll find that most of the people here tend to like guys with longer hair.

I don't really think anything special about it, because here it's pretty common for men and boys to have long hair. It looks fine to me. Some people look better with long hair, some with shorter hair, regardless of whether they're men or women. Here some people associate long haired men with metal music or the environmental/socialist movement, but I don't really see it that way, it's just hair after all.

I'm a woman.

I guess as a personal preference I would say I like when men that have longish hair (especially ear to shoulder length), but if it's bellow the mid back it's probably getting too long.

I'm female and for me it depends on the looks of the guy and the state of the hair.. as in, is it healthy? Does it actually look good or is it long and scraggly .. There's loads of men in Scotland with long hair though.. and the majority of them totally float my boat .. my partner however doesn't have long hair, he has a mohawk :P

Love them! :)

I'm so glad my DBF has long hair (but I'm still glad mine is longer than his). He keeps threatening to cut his hair off but I always object. Of course it's not my choice to make but I really have a thing for long haired men. For me strangely it's attractive to see either long haired or completely bald men, there's no in-between option. Maybe it's the metalhead in me.

Keep growing them locks, guys :) And I wouldn't mind too much about trends. If you like something, do it. Don't follow a trend just because "at the moment I heard this was cool for about 2 months".

Totally agree. Hair's a big signifier of general health. It's noticeable and unattractive if it's scraggly, regardless of gender.

I've not really noticed an upsurge in long hair popularity outside of movies/tv, but then I live in an area of high machismo. It's probably different on the university campus.

I myself don't mind, long or short, though a guy with a super-long head of hair is attractive for no other reason than the care and attention (and rarity) it represents.

I'm a guy.

To me, a guy's hair has to be past shoulder length to count as long :P. A plain bob totally doesn't cut it. If you're not getting any style versatility out of it, it's still short ;).

Anyway, I had a number of male friends in high school who wore bobs rather than a more conventional male haircut. This was at a Catholic school with a very strict dress code, so a bob was as long as they were allowed to go. Most of them looked good, and took very good care of their hair.

In college, I had a boyfriend with mid back length hair. His hair was in fact longer than mine, and I didn't mind. It was actually rather fun. (unfortunately, he had a number of personality traits that were much less attractive)

My partner wears his hair short these days. It's not a matter of me not liking long hair, or him not liking long hair. He's had his hair long, and he looked cute (tho sadly I've never seen it in person). The problem is he has severe psoriasis and dealing with that and long hair is hard. His skin is really dry, but a wide range of products cause serious irritation on his psoriasis patches, and moisturizing products like conditioners can cause itching and burning. He also isn't a huge fan of how curly his hair is, and it takes a lot of length and conditioner to keep it in a way he likes. Plus his psoriasis freaks out about the tiniest bit of stress, so short ends up being a win.

I think long hair looks really awesome on some guys. :) When me and my DF first started dating his hair was about SL, and I thought it was so beautiful and soft. It really depends on the person. I think my DF has the face to pull of almost any hairstyle. I really miss his long hair. It was so silky and it was really nice to run my fingers through it. I am a female by the way lol.

Long hair on guys? Yes, I approve. Boy, do I ever approve... :eyebrows:

Haha, I'm not sure why it's such a "thing" for me (of course , I'm probably talking longer than you are, like AT LEAST APL). Probably a combination of things: my love for heavy metal, my love for ancient history (think Asia and Northern Europe, as far as hair/hairstyles go), a general evolutionary signifier of health (and cleanliness! no matter what length, dirtiness is unacceptable!), as well as a personality thing.

See, I've never met any male that fulfilled the long hair = "dark sided" (a.k.a. d****e bag) bad boy stereotype. Any longhair guys that I've ever met/known are usually either liberal, artsy guys, or ultra-nerds, or something in between (very good traits in my opinion :D), and they've always been sweet, gentle and funny. :)

Good God, how I can rant on this topic! :eyebrows: Happy growing!

ETA: Oh yeah, as for the social acceptance bit, yeah, I think it's gotten easier for guys to have long hair. It's not COMMON by any means right now, at least not in most parts of the US, but there's probably more longhairs around than there would've been 15 years ago, or so.

yeah i definitely agree. I think that anything past shoulder length is a bit too long.

Is shoulder length even considered long hair? I thought around these parts it had to be at least to the waist to even be considered longish?

But, no I have not really noticed any current trend in longhairdness among the members of my gender, other than in the counter-culture communities that one would expect.

Miss Catrina

It's honestly not usually my favorite thing BUT, usually when I see it, it is on a man who unfortunately clearly does not know how to take care of it. Looks greasy, frizzy, etc.

If more long haired men had LHC wisdom at their disposal, I'm sure things would be different. ;)

I'm a guy and in university, so virtually all the long hairs I see are there.

For the ones shorter than shoulder length, I don't have much to say except they are more common than the ones past shoulder length. Now for past shoulder length, usually the ones I see are past BSL(? I guess) and often very poorly taken care of.

Now a problem with guys' hair is that, for shorter hair (including up to chin length), it can be styled to have very "masculine" features, like spiky or gelled clumped hair, but for longer hair, guys can't put their hair in updos (can you imagine a guy with an updo?) or style their hair in any way that wouldn't be considered acceptable. It's the same with clothes; guys mainly have variations in colours of t-shirts and dress shirts in their repertoire of fashion, while women have an assortment of frills, strapless dresses, skin tights, etc. Pretty much anything that isn't stereotypical doesn't fit into the general idea for most people of masculinity. When a guy does something that might be fall under "feminine", some people might feel it is out of place and dislike it. Of course, long shiny hair seems to (in my mind, even though I'm growing out long hair myself) be feminine.

My husband is currently in the process of growing out his hair. He started last year from a fairly short cut in may and when i stretch out the wavy/curly bits he is already to collarbone.

He also has a beard and I think the beard really helps the hair with his worries about his hair looking to feminine. I have been trying to convince him to grow his hair and a beard for a veyr long time, so its nice that he has given it a go. Also SO MUCH FUN TO PLAY WITH!!!

His hair is super thick and he has a gorgeous rich color and wave pattern, he les me comb it and give him scalp massages and oiling etc. (he does all this in return too)

In essence: I approve!

This thread reminds me of a conversation I was having in work the other day. One of the guys had just been for a haircut and someone jokingly said to him 'why don't you let your hair grow'. He replied with 'nah, I had my long hair days when I was younger'. I was interested so I asked him how long it was and he indicated upper back length.

I said I didn't consider that particularly long myself and then everyone started saying 'longer than that on a man just isn't right/attractive/normal etc.' I honestly couldn't believe this attitude and looked up a picture of Danny Cecati so I could ask them, seriously, you don't think this man is beautiful?

Want to know their reaction? They said his hair was disgusting! :justy:

When I asked why the response was that it must be difficult to look after, surely he can't wash it very often blah blah. Except... it clearly was healthy and well-maintained.

Sigh. I guess I'll never understand the muggles.

Guys with long hair are alright. I don't swoon over it. I care a lot more that a guy has something to say for himself and is doing something with himself other than walking around the streets aimlessly! Where I live, there's a lot of sloths running around. People with no goals, no motivation at all, no plans. Deadbeats I call them, (yet they're still getting women pregnant!) Sad, really.

I also care that the hair is in good condition. Someone with a bush for hair is pretty unattractive to me. But then, I'm picky.

For the two guys I saw show up in this thread, you may want to know there's some guys here with really long hair, as expressed by you and compared to your ideas. There's Trolleypup, Beatnik Guy, Ed G., Dave Decker, to name a few that have made it to pretty long lengths. They may be guys you may want to check out and get to know. Trolleypup is really nice as are all the others. I kind of met him recently online, and have come to believe that he's a really nice guy. Maybe some day I can meet him in real time. I've met both Beatnik Guy and Dave. Ed G, I met a super long time ago by accident. They may make you think otherwise, that chin length is merely a starter kit in terms of length.

Sigh. I guess I'll never understand the muggles. There is a simple explanation: men are not qualified to give an opinion on hair on other men. They are simply not programmed to do that.

On the other hand, you are very qualified to give an opinion on a man's long hair. :D

I am married to one.

His hair is longer and prettier than mine. He also has a full beard and is tall so there is nothing girly about him at all - more like a heavy metal Viking (we do authentic early medieval reenactment). Or a science nerd, which he also is.

I was never together with a long haired guy at all before, never liked the look, and DH was just growing out when we met, sort of a chin length 'bob' and five o clock shadow beard - hot hot hot, on him anyway. :)

I do wish he had the courage to wear braids, samurai buns, things like that, more often but he teaches science in a school in a bad neighborhood, and feels his hair is unusal enough as it is without having braids. For Viking fighting, he will sometimes get me to oil his hair and do a herringbone French braid so it does not get tangled and ripped under his helmet, and that also looks really good on him.

It's like women - some men look good with long hair, some don't. I think the 'warlock' - my term for balding on top, long in the back - look is bad on most men who have it, but of course, it is all a matter of personal preference and taste.

I love my fiancee and his long hair! I think it makes him look even more attractive than her already is!

In general I think that long hair looks best on guys who have more masculine faces... if that makes any sense? I don't mean to offend any. I just like that look. I also like that I can put girly hair dos on my fiancee (in private) and no one in the world would mistake him for a woman.

I think people should wear their hair however they are most comfortable, and I think it's stupid and a shame that our culture puts a lot of pressure on men to have short hair.

Aesthetically some men look better with longer hair, some with shorter. Just like on women. I think it has to do with what the wearer is comfortable with, and how it flatters the face. All of this is assuming the hair is kept hygienically. Unfortunately I think many men like to have long hair but haven't been taught how to take care of it, and a lot of things that are meant for taking care of hair are considered "unmanly" (conditioner, updos) so they avoid them.

As far as what I'm attracted to, I wouldn't say I'd never be attracted to a man with short hair. When I met and married my DH he wore a buzz cut. BUT I do like longer hair better probably just because I think hair is cool and the more the better.

I love long hair on a man. My brother-in-law has mid-back hair and I braided it this weekend for him (with my sister’s permission, of course :p). I found out that a fishtail braid can look very strong and masculine and handsome on a man. My father had long hair when I was young (he cut it short when he started going bald :o). One of my best friends in college had thick just-below-shoulder hair and he would let us braid it all the time.

Although, a boy I had a crush on went bald early (in his early twenties), so I also have an affinity for men that go bald earlier in life (and don’t try to hide it!) or go gray early (I had a boyfriend who started getting grays at 22 in his curly, dark hair; it was really gorgeous)…I guess I like seeing the natural variations.

By comparison, cropping your hair into the standard “men’s cut” seems boring to me (as a woman). So many men have almost the same hairstyle as each other or are trying to cover their natural hair somehow (comb-overs, dying, etc.).

ALTHOUGH I do pretty much always love well-done (emphasis on well-done!) unnatural colors: reds, blues, teal, purple, etc. on a guy (or girl!), no matter what the style :P

That being said, it’s all just personal preference. I certainly wouldn’t discount a guy on basis of hair alone :)

Im a female. I do not see long haired guys very often(longer than shoulder). I think it is really sexy though only if it looks taken care of. Ponytails, braids, low buns, loose...all look great on guys.

I guess I'm on the minority here, but I find short hair more attractive on men. I don't know why, maybe it's just because I've been conditioned by society that long hair=feminine. If I were single and looking for someone to date, a guy having long hair wouldn't be a deal breaker or anything, but it probably wouldn't be what would initially attract me to a guy.

I am female, BTW.

As long as it's shorter than mine... lol

I guess as a personal preference I would say I like when men that have longish hair (especially ear to shoulder length), but if it's bellow the mid back it's probably getting too long.

So you are saying that you would pass up a guy interested in you if he had classic length hair?

Let's say Kahl Drogo from the HBO series "Game of Thrones" was interested in you, would you still pass him off because his hair was longer than yours?

I like long hair on men, but I also like men with short hair and bald men. I guess I dont really have a hair preference in a man, though I do think some look better with long hair than others. And if they have long hair, I would just hope that it is well taken care of. I had a male friend with long hair and it was always very stringy and greasy looking... it just wasnt attractive.

My husband has recently been trying to grow his hair out a bit longer than what it usually is. I think he is getting irritated with it though, because he keeps threatening to have me cut it. lol. Good thing is, I have seen him with long hair, short hair, and no hair and I think he looks great no matter what he does. :)

ETA: Oh, and I will add that a well taken care of head of dreads on a man is HOT.

Love long hair as long as it is well kept. But that goes for pretty much any hair style. I just don't like the really long hair and heavy facial hair. Seriously I just want to tell guys with that look that unless they are starting their own religion to pick one or the other...

I think it's awesome. I was surrounded by boys and men with long hair growing up. Never struck me as odd. They did have to put up with crotchety grandmothers, though. So I guess you should be prepared for that :/ (OH NO, some old lady I've never met thinks I look shaggy!!! *sarcasm*)

ALTHOUGH...there was this one guy who just didn't take care of his hair at. all. It was so bad...he got sent home from work to wash his hair, on multiple occasions. So just, don't be that guy.

I've personally never been specifically attracted to men with long hair (mid back length and longer). HOWEVER... I have met and seen a number of guys with long hair, and can objectively say most of them looked really good with long hair. It makes sense how so many women can be attracted to long hair on men. I think it definitely has to do with how well its maintained, is it healthy, their facial features and whether it just suits their face shape.

My favourite guy that I ever saw in real life with long hair was some guy, who didn't even catch the same train as me but who's train arrived at the station the same time as mine. He was gorgeous. My god, he had beautiful dark brown hair, tailbone length. You could see how healthy and well kept his hair was. He had really nice features, strong features but looked very serious. He was not a muso or a hippie, but would wear a suit and tie, carried a briefcase, and looked very sharp. And he would always wear his hair down, it was just so beautiful.

Think Lucius Malfoy, except dark brown silky hair instead of light blond silky hair.

This is why long hair +muscle = fantastic! :face:

Not so great if it has receded so far back that there's only hair at the back, not much hair left on top, etc (IMO). Even then a man could probably wear it longer than the usual men's super-short hair.

NB: Mine isn't even past my shoulders so who am I to say?

From a personality level, I try not to judge people on their appearance, but from an aesthetic point of view, I much prefer men with very short hair. There's not really a reason for it; my father had shaggy length hair and I've met men with long hair who were perfectly nice people. My DH prefers his hair longer on the top but I like it totally buzzed the best :D 1 inch all the way around.

For those men trying to grow it out- good luck. From the looks of this forum, there are plenty of ladies who love the look! I'm just not one of them :P

my love has long hair! It suits him very well and I´m his "hair guru". He has very thin frizzy hair, when we first met it almost looked like he had a bald spot and his hair wasn´t that good. Today after microtrimming his hair (i didn´t knew I was until I joined LHC) for two years his hair is so much thicker and after starting with poo bars its getting even better. he tried vinegar rinses and it looked so awesome but he hasnt continued with them. I have no idea what hair type he has, some parts are straight, and he has corkscrews in some.

Long hair on men is fine with me. Just so long as they take care of it. I hate a rat's nest, thin, straggly hair that is in bad need of some serious attention. A lot of guys grow longer thinking they don't have to mess with it. I like when guys find ways to put it up (the man bun), learn how to ponytail it and stuff like that. I still think that good grooming helps such as shaving the beard and sideburns, or keep them trimmed. I must admit, though, I'm not overly fond of the hairy look -- that is long hair, beard, moustache, and thick sideburns. Then the face is all covered with hair, and it's so ick to me, I don't even want to kiss a guy like that. Ick!

But lovely long, well-cared for hair, fine by me.

Personally, since I'm, well, a guy....
I don't care much about the length of hair on other men.
BUT- I think it looks cool, (obviously why I am growing mine,) and I think
that if more men had long hair I wouldn't feel so lonely.

Also, I know that some celebrities (Like Johnny Depp and Taylor Kitsch, as you mentioned)
have longer hair, but where I live,... THERE EXISTS LITERALLY NO LONG HAIRED MEN. :(
Haha. If longer hair is becoming a "trend" where you live, then I'm kind of jealous.

I love long hair on men, I think that long hair is very stylish and I just like the look of it, the only time I do not like long hair on men is if they have very little hair so all that hang there is some thin strands, then short hair looks better, but if the man have a good head of hair then long hair on men is very yummy. Now like with women what look good on a person is very individual, but generally most times I have seen it I have think it have looked good when men have long hair.

My hubby has the silkiest, most beautiful coffee brown hair .He is 60 and barely has a grey hair on his head (his 92 year old mom still hasn't greyed all the way ...).

If he were to grow it it would be spectacular, but not going to happen. Maybe when he is 70 ...

I am a woman.

I like long hair on men, but then, I like pretty much any hairstyle/color/cut (though there are some exceptions [bowl cuts for example]!!!!) on a guy, depending on how the guy wears it. Some men look fanTAStic in long hair, whereas others look better in a buzz cut.

Earlier this year, I worked at a call center, and one of my male coworkers had thick, red, luscious hair. It was about bcl, I think, maybe a tad longer. He usually left it flowing in ripples down his back. Haha! It was pretty gorgeous hair.

I really like something of an almost shoulder length, and I love dark hair on a man.

Adore Antonio Banderes' hair and really his whole look. :-D But the long hair definitely is great for him, IMO!

Alright. So after having vehemently denied that I have a "type" that I am attracted to, I've started to notice a pattern. :o

I just have to share.

Cedric Bixler-Zavala (http://www.fanpix.net/picture-gallery/cedric-bixler-zavala-picture-13764781.htm)

Do you think it has something to do with the hair? :D

My DH has the same hair type and length. He's way hotter than those guys but he won't let me post a picture.

Haha, so anyway, I cede. I totally have a type. Medium length curly hair. Also, no big muscles and please be under 6' tall, thanks.

I agree with Heidi W. on this, as long as it is taken care of! My husband has always wanted to grow out his hair. His super duper coarse, super curly, super THICK hair. I'm helping him but I won't let him get too long because I KNOW he will mistreat it and wont care what it actually looks like (the last time he tried he looked like he was homeless, seriously). If a guy takes pride in his hair any length is a-okay with me.

I love when guys have long hair :D sadly it's extremely rare in rural Ireland and the ones that DO have long hair are usually simply too lazy to cut it..and wash it.. and brush it etc. so they kinda just give guys with long hair a bad name so then other guys just don't do it i think cause it's seen as unhygenic or that the guy isn't clean/professional. I wish guys in my area had long hair because they liked it on them instead and took care of it so others would be like yeah thats cool i'll try that too :D

If other guys have long hair I just feel that they are providing some sort of moral reinforcement, but to be honest, very few of my (male) friends have long hair. If you ignore online friends, there's really just one guy in RL that's a close friend of mine and also has long hair.

I find shaved heads repulsive, though. I think they look like old-fashioned convicts. Do I have any friends with shaved heads? Well, there's a guy called Phil who has his head shaved bald, and I wouldn't hold that against him.

I like women with long hair, but it's not a dealbreaker if they have it short. In any case, I have now been married to the same woman for a long time, and she does have long hair. But your question was about guys.

Personally, I don't think women in general are attracted to men with long hair.

But I couldn't care less whether women like it or not. It is my hair and I am growing it and that's that.

To be honest with you, a big part of my motivation to grow my hair is exactly to "rub it in" on others that I can do whatever I want. I despise the attitude of people and confront tjhem about it as powerfully aS POSSIBLE.

When taken care of properly, long hair on men is soooo stunning. :crush: The amount
of men I've seen IRL who do take care of their long hair is just a handful. I had one of
those long-distance crushes on a boy at my school a few years ago who had WL+ hair,
straight and brown and thick. He didn't know who I was and vice versa, but every time
I saw him I swooned inside. Hehe :D
On the other hand, I'm not sure why there so many long-haired men who don't take good
care of it. Does anyone know why this is? :(

I think the majority of people look better (to me personally) with long hair. I class long hair on men as shoulder length+ and long hair on women as BSL+. As long as it's clean I'm not really fussy about quality, texture etc. Back in my single days I'd give a second glance to people with long hair, whether the rest of them was especially attractive to me or not. I'm in a committed relationship now and his hair is shorter than I'm used too but I still think he's the most handsome man in the world, so hair definitely isn't the most important thing to me.

I find guys with long hair to be very attractive. I don't know why, but the thought of sharing my conditioner with my significant other and debating about whether or not we like it, is quite exhilarating... lol please don't judge me. I don't get out much.

I think they look very dashing! Like with everything else though, it suits some people better than others, but then again I like all sorts of guys - blonds, brunets, long-haired, short-haired, buzzed...

I don't really notice hair on men! That said, I prefer my husband's hair a bit longer (like a kind of spiky do) than when he used to shave it. So I guess I prefer 'some' hair, to no hair!! Other than that, I'm not too fussed :)

You know, it makes happy when girls comment positively on this topic. But why am I surrounded by people who don't like long-haired guys???? All I hear is "why is your hair Long?" "Cut it" bup bup bup....:steam:steam

My fiance had long hair before I met him, from photos I have seen he looked very very attractive with his long hair. I think I prefer him with his long hair but I love him the way he is :)

I like the way you think. We should love and respect people for who they are not for their looks

being a guy with long hair, I think its great that more guys are growing their hair long. And find long well kept hair great on any gender. As to whether girls like it, I've had far more interest from them with longish hair than when I had short :)

My husband has hair to his armpits. So I’d say guys with long hair is rather handsome.

He also has a very fluffy beard too. The combo of long hair and long beard reminds me of a lumberjack. Which he kind of reminds me of sometimes. Lol

But I find long hair on men very handsome

Long hair on guys can be tricky. God put it there, so that colors my views. But too many know nothing about care and maintenance, and present themselves badly. I think that's why it got such a bad rap.

It needs to be kept and maintained to absolute perfection or it can go bad...and if it goes bad it goes very bad.

Healthy, maintained, and luxurious. Wait, isn't that the LHC motto?

I think that goes for women's hair too. It's obvious when it gets neglected too badly, but that goes for both sexes.

I think the typical short men's hair style can only be described as ghastly. Unfortunately, it is so common that people have grown used to it. Pretty much any long hair style would be an improvement.

I agree. For me long hair highlights the personality of every person. But that's only my view.

cjk

I disagree. The length of the hair is only one of a myriad of elements that can demonstrate personality and individuality.

Hairstyles exist for a reason. Each of us has an individual face shape. How the hair is shaped, arranged, cut, or even removed also says a lot about the wearer.

For years I was quite fat. With a soft face. And the hard lines of a flattop served to emphasize the angular elements of my face and brow ridge, better balancing my face shape and hairstyle.

A businessman's taper or pompadour could also be shaped to achieve the same thing.

Particularly on a younger man who is fit, a buzz cut is a great look because it is no nonsense and practical while setting off, again, those masculine features.

And long hair, though almost universally flattering if well presented, also contributes to an overall look.

Learning to speak the non-verbal language, to express yourself effectively, is worthwhile.

That is a challenging standard to maintain.

For me, if people maintain a level of benign neglect, that is fine. If your hair makes you happy, then my opinion is just something that everyone has.

You misunderstand. I didn't say it has to be complicated or convoluted. Not LHC perfect. Just average people perfect. And the whole look has to work together.

Long hair on a guy positions him as an outlier. It's not so taboo as it once was, but long hair communicates a number of things about us. Consider these two long haired gents.

Yes, I know they're stereotypes. But those stereotypes exist for good reason. Hair, regardless of its length, says a lot...it's part of overall grooming.

It needs to be kept and maintained to absolute perfection ...

I'm not sure what that means. Perfection... No frizz, no splits, no braid taper? Perfect hemline too? No grays? That's a high bar there.

On the other hand... I was at the airport a couple days ago. Usually, airports are great places for hair-sightings. I only saw two men with hair longer than shoulder length, and both looked terribly unkempt, tangled and straggley. One guy had dandruff all over the back of his shirt.

It was kind of a nice feeling when I realized I had the longest hair of any guy there that day. And mine's not unkempt but hardly perfect either.

I also agree with this. I don't think MPB should mean that a man shouldn't grow his hair long. It's like saying women with thin hair shouldn't grow their hair long either. There are women on this board too who are balding.

I always maintain that if hair wasn't meant to be long (on either gender), it wouldn't keep on growing. :p

Also, I'd like to know the meaning of absolute perfection here too, since perfection is rather subjective....

ETA: DH has waist length 1b/f/i/ii hair and while some people may think that his hair is too thin to look nice long, I find his hair beautiful and extremely sexy on him. :)

I've always liked men with long hair. My SO has quite long hair that is a distinctive part of his look, and at times when he's threatened to cut it, his daughter, many friends, and I all object. He trims it a little bit sometimes when it starts to annoy him, but most of the time it is around mid-back length. And it's very curly, so he has a very striking appearance.

I would love the world to get to a point where long hair is simply another neutral style choice regardless of if it's on a man or a woman. It made me happy to see so many long haired men represented in Avatar: The Last Airbender (the animated show, not the movie). They had a lot of long haired men in the show. They even had bald-on-top, long-sides-and-back haired men and it all looked really good to my eye. Yes, in real life it can look not the best on some people, but I think it really depends on hair care, just like any other thickness and length. If a woman doesn't automatically need to shear off all her hair with balding, I don't see why a man would need to.

I feel similar. When I see a long-haired man, I think that he isn't adapting to other people, for me it's expressing a bit of freedom. And it doesn't matter if the hair is thinnig, as long as it is well-kept.

For me, I know that sounds strange and it's only my opinion, it feels like men who decide to wear their hair very short, are hiding something.

True, but it also, I think, depends on the person. My dad loves short hair, always has done so. In the 60s he had it a bit longer up top and combed it back (he had gorgeous wavy hair). Nowadays it's so short you can't see the wave (except the little "flip" at the front where his sidepart is).

Ah you know, dads, gotta love 'em! ;)

I tend to love long hair on hair on men as long as they are physically fit and have a thick full head of hair. If they have thinning hair, or a receeding hairline, or are overweight, i tend to prefer short hair with a long beard instead. My hubby unfortunately was cursed with thinning hair and a slightly receeding widows peak, so he keeps it extremely short and grows a nice beard for me instead, bless his heart.

I know this is quite an old topic, but I hope you guys don't mind me bumping this one back up.

My 2 cents, for years I had short hair and loved it, but I had always wanted to grow it long, the toughest part for most I believe is firstly getting over the stigma that "men should have short hair" (especially in my profession where there are a lot of older folk) however it is becoming a lot more acceptable and secondly, getting past the "awkward" stage

My current nicknames at work are "Dante" ( from the 3 musketeers) and General Custer  because of my luscious locks, but I find them quite indearing (from a looks point of view) plus, they are all short haired and jealous! HAHA

I also used to work with a gentleman who was 67 before he retired and had stick straight, hip length, ice white hair. In an engineering environment that is quite an achievement. But he was a metal music lover and still to this day goes to regular metal concerts.

My father on the other had was brought up in a strict military environment and believes in short well kept hair, which is fair enough, but I did spot a picture of him in his youth with jet black thick shoulder length hair and loving it.

Anyhoo, any other guys still about on here?

Many years ago, the long-haired caveman chased after the long-haired cave woman. Upon seeing the long-haired caveman, the long-haired cave woman did not run as fast as she could. This is how humans ended up with long hair. :rollin:
