View Full Version : I think I'm going to break down and get bangs (a fringe)...

ETA: I did it, thanks to all of your encouragement! I posted a pic on page 2, and then someone asked for the youtube videos I used, so I linked them on page 3. :D HTH!

I've been silent on here for a while now, busy with life and my newly mobile baby. But I was looking through some old photographs from a few years back when my hair was more "styled" and sassy, and I had bangs. I've been growing it all out, and I think my hair is mostly blunt now--but I look in the mirror most days and hate how I look. I had a baby 9 months ago and have shed most of the baby weight, but I still look in the mirror and feel blah. I look like your stereotypical mom who never takes any time for herself, and I don't want to look like that. I looked so much more put together a few years back--and it didn't take much more effort, really.

I've been trying to avoid bangs because I really don't have a lot of hair, and I wanted it all to go to my length and hemline. But I just look so blah without them!! AND my forehead wrinkles (which are totally genetic) and getting more and more pronounced, so now I feel like I look old when I look in the mirror, too. I could hide them with bangs. :)

So what do you guys think? I'll show you a few before pics, when I think I looked hot! and a few pics of now, when I feel blah. :P
The third pic in the BEFORE section are heavier bangs than what I'd want now, but gives a good idea.

Go for it! I just cut some side bangs for myself after having had them grown out for years - it's always such a refresh :) I love them on you! Very cute and youthful :)

Wow, you are so gorgeous. :D
While I think you look gorgeous both ways, I like the bit of spunk the bangs give you.

You will look wonderful, whatever you choose to do.

I think you look lovely with the fringe :) I also think you look lovely with your hair as it is now, but down, is does look quite severe in your photo with it up though. So I vote yes for a fringe (I'm thinking of having one too ;) )

I think you look equally good both ways. Do whatever you are in the mood for!:D

I honestly think you look good either way, but if bangs would make you feel better about your look, than go for it. :D I mean, who wants to look in the mirror and not be happy we have the power to change it. :)

You look lovely with bangs and I think it will soften your updos a bit. I say go for it!

I am not going to lie, but I think you look stunning with bangs. This is coming from a fringe lover though so I am biased. I have fine hair as well but I find as long as the bangs arn't too thick but thick enough to create the look your after then it doesn't eat up too much thickness.

Being able to style my bangs is the only thing that keeps me from feeling too frumpy because at least there is some style in my hair and I can use product and heat to do what I want to them without the guilt.

Its really up to you though, a lot of gals regret cutting in thier bangs with a firey passion and 7/10 times I think someone looks better with bangs. You are still georgeous without them but thats just my opinion.

I look very similar without a fringe i think when you wear glasses you need something to soften the look i have just started growing mine out into a side swept one and i got so many compliments. Why not go for a side one i like that look on you going by your pictures.

If getting bangs will perk you up and make you feel prettier, go for it. What I think doesn't matter.

Thanks, everyone! You're basically confirming what I've felt deep down, that the help to soften up my look and add some oomph when I pull my hair back. I think I needed to hear from my fellow LHC members that getting my fringe back wouldn't somehow make me any less of a longhair, lol, you know? Silly, I'm sure, to feel that way, but it's kind of how I felt. And I don't think it's postpartum hormones making me go all crazy wanting a change--I waited 9 months to do anything drastic, and still want to get them cut. :)

You are beautiful either way! The pic that made me go WOW was the second one though... with the side swept bang. (I recently felt like you about my grown out bangs - so I cut them back in and feel much prettier!)

Hm on a lot of people I'm not crazy about bangs either way but I think they look really good on you. In fact, I bet you could even pull off a blunt bang.

I would like to say you are beautiful with or with out bangs....do what you'd like with your hair.

If bangs make you happy, go for it!:D

I have face-framing layers and I love how they soften my updos :D
(I feel I look quite boring and stern with no hair in my face ...)

Forgot to add: I think you look really pretty in pic 1+3!

You all are so wonderful and encouraging! I bit the bullet, and after watching a few youtube videos, cut my own side-swept bangs. I'm reasonably pleased with the results! If I style them just right, they're perfect, and I'm sure I'll get better at cutting them with practice. :D

I LOVE fringe, even though I'm currently growing mine out. I especially love your third before picture, the one you thought was too thick. I say go for it!! :)

bangs.

honestly, what is the point of hair down to your toes if you have to keep it up in a bun all your life.

I'm personally going for hair somewhere between bsl and waist lenght with maybe just a touch of bangs for some style myself.

It looks so lovely! Similar to my fringe, but thicker and with more volume. I'm jealous. :p

this has inspired me to cut bangs again! i feel the same way. i grew mine out for more thickness and for the ease of not having to style them every morning (they get crazy overnight) haha but yea i just feel so boring without them! plus i think when we grow out our hair, having well-cut bangs helps make the cut look more fresh and intentional during the awkward phases of growth, which i'm definitely in currently. yay bangs!
