So, I have always wanted red hair this color:

I have tried dye after dye before and nothing comes close to this. So I was curious whether Henna could make my hair this color.

My natural color/ the color that it is now, is this:

Sorry it is large! And excuse my odd plain-ness here. haha

What would you all suggest and how would you suggest mixing the henna? I have never henna'd my hair before, so all advice would be very helpful!

Thank you all in advance!!

I think you could get very close to that colour- maybe slightly darker. Try red raj.

You should be able to get quite close to that color. But henna can be tricky. I would recommend that you be careful in applying your henna, though - and I would suggest a henna-cassia mix, or possibly a henna gloss. Your best bet IMO would be to work up to that color over perhaps two or three hennaings, since it can be easy to get a too dark color - and if you go too dark, you won't get the color out of your hair! When you have the right color, switch to roots-only applications. :)

Thank you both! How would you go about mixing the henna to apply it? I have never applied henna and I have thought about it a long time. I think I wanna do it! I just don't know how! Haha

I mix mine with chamomile tea (and ginger and paprika) till it is like cake batter.. and then after dye release I just sort of glop it on. And then wrap in plastic and a towel... and wait.
I use Jamila henna as it is noted to have more of a coppery tone then a true red/dark red. And.. my hair is naturally darker then yours.

Roots only is trickier.. but same idea.

No worries... unless you already know where to look finding anything here can be hard.

Make a point of doing a lot of strand testing - save hair from your hairbrush for this. And when you do this strand testing, don't forget the oxidation period afterward!! It can take up to a week after you henna until the color has settled.
Err on the side of "too little henna in the mix" and "too short a time on your hair" when you decide on your mix - you can add more color - removing henna color is not something you can count on being possible.
Use lots and lots and lots of conditioner for rinsing out the henna - if you don't rinse it out properly, your scalp will itch and itch and itch!!
Good luck! :D

I agree about starting off lighter with a gloss. That way if you aren't thrilled with the color it won't be too dark. If you like it you can add more henna until you get the color you want. I think you can get very close to that color you want with a little patience and practice. Once you get used to henna, it is very easy. I actually look foward to my henna days. :) Your hair will love you for it too.

I also recommend a cassia/henna mix. Also agree the Jamila gives a copper color. Maybe a 50/50 mixed with chamomile tea and leave it on about 2 hours to start. If it's not dark enough you could do it again, just wait about 1-2 weeks for the color to oxidize to make sure.

I think you would be more likely to get that color by mixing red and orange in a product like Manic Panic. It wouldn't be permanent, of course, but you could try it on, see how it works with your skin tone and personal style.

I would also start with cassia/henna mix to check how it is absorbed by your hair.

Thank you all so much! I am really excited to try this. I am going to strand test like crazy to make sure it is what I really want. While reading all of your replies I had to pull out my handy dandy notebook that I take with me everywhere so I could write all of this down!
