Do note that the 3D Rose fork isn't exactly tiny either. The topper diameter is a full 4cm! When I unpacked it my first reaction was delight because it's so beautiful, and my second was dismay because I was pretty sure it'd be too big for me. Luckily it wasn't... but it was a near thing!

Oh no :(
I don't have enough thickness to support that!

I better email him and see if he could make a smaller version.

Thanks so much for telling me

I hope you can get it! I'd probably be putting it under glass instead of wearing it. :p

I bought this (https://www.etsy.com/listing/251696195/hair-stick-160mm-handmade-from-buloke) unreserved stick in the shop, mostly just to see if I like it since I've never tried an Elymwold before.

I haven't heard back from him re: either one yet :(

Your stick is gorgeous!

If he can't do any more customs, I'll try to snag an unreserved toy from his shop ;)

You can have him add you to his custom list.
He said that occasionally he will make duplicates of items, and he is also working down the list.

His hands are still bothering him post surgery so he is staying with sticks for now (lighter lathe work).

I just put in an order for a carved rose tusk/3 prong fork (https://www.etsy.com/listing/233819268/reserved-a-3-prong-hair-fork-in) in Australian Scented Rosewood
He could not give me a time frame or even a guarantee he can make it, depending on his healing.

His shop was one of the first I spotted when I joined LHC and I loved the Gothic forks but they are too big for my head/hair.

I was looking for a SPECIAL toy to celebrate reaching my goal at Christmas and THIS was it!
I LOVE roses and it will be a nice memento of his shop/country and my achievement

If it is meant to be...it will be made  lol

Thank you very much for sharing this info GG I've been hoping and praying that I might see an unreserved fork because this truly is my "unicorn" but now that I know there won't be any in the forseeable future I'll try for a stick instead. Congrats on your upcoming custom. :)

You're welcome :)

Actually on occasion he will post an unreserved stick/fork; but they tend to get grabbed up fast :p

So getting on a list gives us a possibility anyway lol

And yeah...he is still hurting so sticks are the better option for the near future....and even then....if it needs carving (like my rose topper)...there still may be a wait until he can so it.

GroovyGrany, I am very happy for you!
But I have to warn you, the wait might be long, or you might be very lucky!
It's more than one year since I asked nIgel for maybe if possible a baby celebration fork ( something with pink and blue for my kids) and while he said yes at the time and we kept in touch, I yet have to see a sign of a fork....

And this one, with such a cool looking topper. https://www.etsy.com/transaction/1072804811?

Edit: Someone needs to get that black stick with the red topper, it looks like a marble on top and that shape is so pretty.

Oh my gosh!!! I just went to the shop after browsing everyone's pretties in here....and I went all sad, because when I look at the shop there's either never an unreserved stick in it OR it's one and just too light of wood for me since I tend to lean more towards darker woods.
There was an unreserved stick!! And it was a twin to one I saw recently and faved because I Looooooved it!! And I got it!! WOOO!!

I will keep an eye out for an unreserved piece that may strike my fancy just in case.

Theobroma, Monkshood, Red, AspenSong--great scores!!! AspenSong, that one is similar to one I'd loved and missed out on with a different topper shape, which actually lead to some special somethings I received today. :D Adi, your swapout stick is a beauty--I hope you get to buy your pretties soon! And GG, your rose-topped stick will be a wonderful celebratory work of art, as is all his creations. Actually, our amazing Nigel has floored me (no surprises, he's good at that). I received a bouquet of sticks this morning that had an extra special budding beauty along for the ride, and have been sitting in the sun, twirling and ogling them for longer than I'm willing to admit. Then I dragged myself inside and tried them on, one at a time. My, oh my, they're just stunning. I will be getting pics as soon as I can, although action shots may take longer.

Hair stick -153mm- Handmade from Tasmanian blackwood and acrylic resin (https://www.etsy.com/au/transaction/1070708013). Chips of blue grey and hints of salmon, like a galah (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galah) in the moonlight. :p Will be great with jeans and demin stuffz.
Hair stick -165mm- Handmade from Huon pine and photoluminescent acrylic resin (https://www.etsy.com/au/transaction/1070708017). Can glow in the dark for around 12 hours, so I'll be checking that out tonight. It has a mesmerising topper that certainly doesn't need the night to glow!
Hair stick -172mm- Handmade from Flame Sheoak and photoluminescent acrylic resin (https://www.etsy.com/au/transaction/1067957594). Another one that glows in the dark. This special acrylic did a number on Nigel's tools, blunting them very quickly. :( It's wicked cool to look at, though!
Hair stick -162mm- Handmade from Desert Walnut and acrylic resin (https://www.etsy.com/au/transaction/1067957592). Mmmm mmmm. Royal purple blue of the amethyst kind, swirling with grey black.
Mystery stick--I think it's wenge with acrylic resin that's hard to capture its firey, deep cosmic glints. It reminds me of a paintbrush, too.
Hair stick -172mm- Handmade from Wenge and acrylic resin (https://www.etsy.com/au/transaction/1070708021). A budding rosebud, a flaming torch, or a wet paintbrush (it's the artist in me...). It's gorgeous any which way.
Hair stick -172mm- Handmade from African Blackwood and acrylic resin (https://www.etsy.com/au/transaction/1067957596). An opalescent topper of oily raindrop colours that was hidden in the glare.
Hair stick -178mm- Handmade from Matai and acrylic resin (https://www.etsy.com/au/transaction/1070708015). Tis be more aqua than orchid sky acrylic--very pretty.
Hair stick -175mm- Handmade from Matai and acrylic resin (https://www.etsy.com/au/transaction/1070708019). Aussie green and gold, oi oi oi! With some Kiwi backup, because Nigel is a ditch-straddler.

The shafts are all so smooth, and have a colour, shape (awesome hold) and grain personality of their own that compliments the toppers and collars (spacers?) so well. I'm just over the moon, lost in all the yumminess! For those of you waiting for some goodies like these to turn up in the mail, I can imagine they'll rock your world! Just amazing in person--you need a vid for each one, just to show the whole stick.

Anyone know if his Wish List is open yet?

You can have him add you to his custom list.
He said that occasionally he will make duplicates of items, and he is also working down the list.
His hands are still bothering him post surgery so he is staying with sticks for now (lighter lathe work and no carving).
When I posted this info last week...someone mentioned he told them they were on the list and a YEAR later they still had not heard from him.
So it is a gamble....and you can always scout his shop; occasionally unreserved items are posted.
Good Luck :)

I was struggling with the great divide; as in, it was meant to be two buns in one. Lunasea, ta ta! :D

Haha, your delivery timed in like some swap board purchases I'd sent to the US, AspenSong. They probably travelled together at some stage! And I know if I get the leaf blower out, the wind will whip it all back at me at the moment! Gaaaaaaaaaah! While we wait for pics, there's always

If the combination had been different and the maple wood stick had the blue acrylic topper, I would have grabbed that in a heartbeat! I was unsure about the colour of the Matai wood in my hair, so let it go. But gah, that topper. So pretty.

Got my stick. It's BEAUTIFUL... But I don't think it's right for me. I tried all my usual buns and none of them felt secure. This bun on the picture fell apart within 5 minutes after the photo was taken, even though I don't usually have any trouble getting a braided bun to hold with a single stick. It also slid right out of my LWB and I feel like the paler wood kind of clashes with my hair? I don't know.

I'm not putting it on the swap board yet because I literally just got it and I might be able to find a way to wear it, but if any of you want it, feel free to PM me. It's this one (https://www.etsy.com/transaction/1069783732).

Oh, Monkshood! I think it looks gorgeous in your hair. I actually find these sticks work better than most for me (I usually wear them in a 1-7 o'clock position, although my action pics are often angled), so I'm no help to you. :(

I understand taht is real snake skin, but what is glistening inside? Is it like a gold rod in the centre?

Crystawni
November 8th, 2015, 08:55 PM
It looks to be a gold/coppery something or other (probably a rod) behind the snakeskin, but it's very hard to tell. I do know it was rather fiddly to do. :p It's so much more than I imagined. The snakeskin looked a little murky in the pics I was shown, but it actually has a silky sheen.

Oops indeed! I love how it looks so happy in your hair. And yes, I find the same thing with smaller sticks. Less play/fatter belly over a shorter distance/different balance, or whatever it is, they lock in. And trying to loosen the bun means the stick gets swallowed. I hope you can get it to work better!

Thank you, christiansummer, Kina and Crystawni! I love how this stick actually has good hold, for all that it's so smooth. Plus it looks gorgeous in the sunshine. :)

That is my friend Gwen the donkey. She likes to "sing" in the morning when she sees me and people can actually hear her 5 miles away, so I have to be careful not to go out too early. Most of my neighbors are cows and don't really care all that much, but there are a few humans scattered here and there so I try and be a polite neighbor.

Spinder, it usually is. Alas. However if you are able to stay awake until about 3AM my time (I live in the US Mountain time zone) sometimes you'll find he's posted some stuff. But, by the time I normally get up and have time to check the internet - around 7ish, I'd say, even if he added stuff in my night, it's all gone. :( And it happens FAST. VERY fast. This is a VERY awesome hair toy maker with a very well-deserved reputation.

Oh dear... like, three posts in a row, looks like I'm spamming the thread here...

Well, my stick arrived! That was so fast! I hurried up and took a shot of it because the weather is supposed to turn snowy here and I wanted to get it in the sunshine. The colors are beautiful in the sun.

My Elymwold stick was delivered yesterday, yet again I'm very impressed. It's a bit shorter than what I usually get in LIs but most buns I do are OK with shorter sticks, I just have less sticking out. My mamacats are shorter too. I will try to get pics later, it's soooo nice!

Thank you, Crystawni, Adiro and Sarahlabyrinth. I do love blue. :) But the stick is so well made, it holds really well (even though, as redrobin points out, it's shorter than what I normally wear) and then on top of it so gorgeous to look at. A true treasure.

haha Lirona! So perhaps my optimism is misplaced, but I figure not everyone has enough hair for an elymwold, plus the chances of getting one from etsy were already vanishingly small, plus a break from fork-making will allow him to heal and make more so... hopefully... no change? :)

Thanks to a lovely LHCer on the swap board I'm now the proud owner of a gorgeous Elymwold stick! I got a fork of his quite a while ago (a 4-prong ebony behemoth with a dark blue dyed elm topper) and I absolutely adore it, and I decided to take the plunge when I saw this extra-long stick pop up on the swap board just when I happened to be looking. It's 7.5", with an applewood body and a myrtle topper. It's pretty subtle in my hair, but I can already tell that it's going to be perfect for everyday wear. I'm a little sad that the gorgeous line of myrtle inlay isn't visible, and I wouldn't cry if it were a smidge longer (I have to pull most of my styles a little tight to get them to fit on the stick), but overall it's an amazing piece that's a perfect fit for my needs. Here's the stick on its own:

jennareid, three gorgeous hair sticks you got there, and the pink one looks fantastic in your hair! I've never been a fan of pink myself but the more I see things like that the more I want it :o

Wildcat Diva, huuuuuge bun and a really pretty fork! Gosh, I hope I will get to that point someday, I can picture myself with a huge bun on the back of my head, would suit me (yes, I got future ideas for my looks). *writes down "3 (or more) prong elymwold fork" on the wishlist*

I really hope I can make big-looking buns in a year or so. At the moment I have to make them quite tight for the ends not to fall out (which they do anyway) and to keep the bun from falling down.
I have faith, but maybe it will take much longer than a year (I hope not). Till then I will admire the buns I see here :)

Imo he has been listing quite often lately, maybe because it takes less time to make hair sticks than forks (?). He usually put them up when it is morning here, have not checked what exact hour, not even sure if he aims for a specific time like that. But yeah, before 09:00 (maybe between 6 and 9? New pretty for me that arrived the other day: flame sheoak with blue and white acrylic. (https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/257716150/hair-stick-153mm-handmade-from-flame) It was blue. Purdy blue. Resistance I no haz, especially with the white that can play with my hair.

Now, I need your help. One of the first two sticks are going to be a Christmas gift for my mother and I can't decide which one. Tonight I was playing around and tried this big old thing on again.

I had fun and thought you might like to see the result.

Oh I LOVE this WCD!!!! I've never seen one like this! If you ever grew tired of it.... ;) Your hair is looking glorious!

Hahaha, Ladies!
Thank you for the compliments. This fork, I love it but it is a bit difficult in a way that is not evident in 2D. Head curve is very deep. With that being said... I intend to keep it.

WD, I think that's still my fave evah Elymwold design. And you're rocking it as usual! *swoon* And just to test your bunning skillz that bit moar, I reckon all it needs is a quill hairstick... :p

Michele, I LOVE your paired sticks!

ETA: Oops, I forgot to share this little timber-topped mystery stick I got from Hele...

Thanks!!I will keep you in mind. Its hard to part with them now that he doesn't list them anymore. Sure wish his hand would get better and he would start listing forks again. Selfish I know but I really love them!

Oh, me too! I cherish every one of mine, and I'd really love to get another 3D one eventually.

That's a lovely group you posted up there! What is the inset on the second one from the bottom? It looks like tiger's eye.

Ahh Slynr, I see that it's you who has my dream Elymwold pair. That pair with the ebony bottoms and the stone inlaid toppers. Let's just say :thud: If you ever decide to sell or trade... Hele's got two Elymwold forks on the swap board right now and I might just happen to have one of the LIs that she's looking for. Her forks are too big for me but.....

Thank you! It's a Wrapped stick bun ala Hypnotica. :) I hadn't tried to do it in forever and just realized it works better for me now, so yay for new go-to bun.

I'm amazed how pretty action shots you others can take! Your timber-topped mystery looks so nice in your bun (braid-bun?), Crystawni, and that vibrant colour goes so well with your hair, AspenSong!

I was surprised to see that it was sunny outside, so I ran out and took an action shot of this pretty:

Seriously hard winds atm, like 20 m/s, guess that is why the sun was already gone after only 4 photo-attempts.
Guess it will be dark soon, gotta love winters.

Just snagged 2 sticks! Yey! *excited* My first ever from this maker!

One of them has a florescent resin top - that's very exciting!

One left unreserved in the shop - if you like dark wood and orange, go get it!

Estrid, that's so pretty! The wood is particularly attractive in your new stick!

Crystawni and Aspensong, beautiful as .... always!!!

Hypnotica, congratulations ! I don't think you can be disappointed , his sticks are just fabulous, and what you see is really what you get, he doesn't enhance his photos or anything..... Cant wait to see action shots!

Here is the stick I didn't buy: https://www.etsy.com/se-en/listing/266642507/hair-stick-163mm-handmade-from-peruvian?ref=related-0 :P

From the photos, it seems that his sticks are top notch quality.

Hehe, I already went to the sold section to see them , H :)
The finish is like for TT or better, really.... But they also have a nice sharp tip, which helps a lot with hair holding ability.... Nigel uses numerous coats of varnish and polishing after each of them by hand, until they are really like glass and well protected against water....
