View Full Version : Can't leave my braid tassle alone!

I'm shameless!!! I find myself doing this ALL the time lately even when I am talking to people. UGH! I don't handle it roughly but still..anyone else do that or have a clue how to stop? I would wear updos all the time but I LIKE braids and they are more comfy for me, no scalp pulling!

(oops I spelled it wrong, it's tassel isn't it? Oh well!)

Hee hee! Me too. I'm constantly grabbing my braid and sort of rubbing the tassel (-le?) between my thumb and forefinger.

I'm sure it looks positively pornographic to anyone watching :o, but I kind of can't stop doing it.

Help! :D

I do it too, I have my tassle lightly oiled, so it's super soft! :cloud9:

Another compulsive tassle handler here:rolleyes: Especially while I'm driving. Someone smack my hand.

I don't play with the tassel at work, but when I'm home and in braids, I do. I don't think it's damaging (I guess depending on exactly what you do with them..hehe), and I'm not really sure how to break myself from it. Guess I'm no help here Curlsgirl!

Maybe the lollipop thing might work; if your hand was occupied otherwise, you wouldn't have time to tassel. Or maybe keeping some icky lotion on your hands, that you would not want to get in your hair, might discourage the tassel stroking.

I suppose we could always hide a tiny buzzer in our tassels that would zap us if we touched them. Nah. We'd probably figure the electric current might spur on new hair growth and actually increase our playful tassel touching, eh? :p

That's too funny. I'm kind of the opposite, I don't really like tassles on braids, they bug me for some reason. Mine always seems to be tickling the crap out of me, too. Bah! I don't know what my problem is, hahaha.

Im with you flapjack, the tassel of my braid always bugs me! Theres generally that one stray hair that tickles my back!!

My solution for all you tassel twirlers is maybe tuck your tassel? or when all else fails put it all the way up!

Now while I don't mess with my tassel...if my hair is down I have a hard time keeping my hands out! what to do?...what to do....?

I was fiddling with mine today. I switched products so partly it was for examining it, partly because it was there and smelled nice, and partly because I was boinging around the curls. Haha. It passed the time to say the least! I did get an odd look or two from some coworkers though. ;)

Yep, that would be me too! I don't think what I do is damaging, I just mainly keep smoothing it with my fingers. Often when I do it, I end up searching for any splits as well. I just oiled my tassel for bedtime and I'm actually doing it right now...:o

You play with the boingy curls and I try to get mine to boing! :wigtongue
It's not fair, I tell you! :D

And what's wrong with playin' with your tassel?

Maybe we need a club? I do this too! I also find one that tickles my back, so I tend to run my hands over it so I can find that stray hair.

Also, I find that I have to alter my hair when I'm teaching if I have to get on a horse and alter my style to fit the helmet vs my hat.

I've taken to doing a braid, then knotting it. This seems to work really well!

Oh thank heavens! I thought something was wrong with me! I am so glad that I am not the only person who can't stop playing with the tassel.

I braid my hair for the night, and I am usually on the computer right before I head off to bed. So what am I usually doing? Mouse click right hand, stroke/comb/curl the tassel in my left hand. I find it oddly soothing...

Surely playing with the tassle must be one allowed sin eh?

I also sometimes (gently) pull my braid. I guess I got it from Nynaeve in "The Wheel of Time" books. :D

I just play with my hair in general. I did it when it was long and I still do it now that it's shorter. I will be glad when it's long again so I will have even more hair to play with!!! I say let loose and go for it! :)

I do this too! My tassel tends to turn into one little curly-Q so it's SUPER fun to play with.

Plus, the other day (this is how I know my hair is getting long) my boyfriend was poking me on the cheek/neck with it and I didn't realize it was my own HAIR until I looked.

I do this too, but I don't think it's causing any damage. I handle my hair quite a bit, but I get a lot of joy from it. That's what I'm growing my hair out for, after all... to enjoy it!

You could try spidermom's method of braiding right to the end and then wrapping a ribbon around. You wouldn't actually have a tassel to play with then.

I do this too and I play with my hair if it's down. I worry it's damaging since my hair is pretty fragile, so I'm trying to break the habit. It's so hard. My hair has to be completely contained for me not to mess with it and then it's all I can do to keep from taking it down, putting it up, taking it down...Bleh.

I cannot keep my hands off of my braid!!! I played with it so much yesterday that I feared I might end up damaging my ends somehow, so I wrapped it into a bun :(

I seem to do it also, specially just after washing when it's really soft and shiny and smells so nice. i rub it against my cheeks and nose and toss my head back and forth just to feel the tassle rubbing my back. plus when i am sitting and watching tv and i put my braid up behind the headrest, i stretch my arms up and just rub it between my fingers.

Wondering why we do this? but so fun.

My name is Franny and I am a braid tassel stroking addict. :o

I do this all the time. I don't know why, but it's very comforting. I don't see any harm in it, as long as I'm stroking in the right direction.

I love stroking my cheek with my tassel, stroking the braids, and even sticking the tassel in my ear (corny, I know). I squish the braids to feel their strength. I've had the same braids for three days or so and the ends have formed little loops.

*gasp* I do this, too, and didn't even realize it! When I'm not busy fondling my tassel, I'm sort of squishing the length of the braid itself to feel it sproing back between my fingers.

What is wrong with us? ;)

Tassel Twirler here, too:) But then again, I'm also a compulsive hair smoother as well.

Now that I think about it, I always am doing Something to my hair: tucking twisting bunning braiding.

I'm gonna start wearing gloves!

It kind of annoys me when other people play with their hair (I have no idea why), so when I find my fingers in my hair, I put it up so that I don't annoy myself (or anybody else).

Yes, the times I get embarrassed when I realize I am doing it is out in public. THAT is what I am trying to stop! When I'm at home or in the car or something I don't mind. It is learning to be conscious and do it when appropriate!!! I am doing better by the way. I think what happened is that for the longest time it didn't naturally fall to the front very much and since it's getting longer it does a lot and it's well THERE to play with! Tee hee

I feel I also have to chime in here. I am also a tassel stroker. I love to feel the soft smoothness of my tassel. If it doesn't feel nice, I know it's time for a S&D. I used to make fun of this one character in an anime (Tessa Testarossa from Full Metal Panic, in case anyone was curious) because she is always sniffing her braid tassel. Sadly, now that my braid is long enough, I'm finding myself sniffing it or rubbing it on my cheek or lips. It is some sort of odd addiction but it seems harmless enough.

I dont think there's anything wrong with playing with your braid tassel, but if you want to make it less appealing you could loop them. I do this when I'm on an excavation and I want to keep my braid tassels from brushing the ground and getting dirt in them. just fold them upward before you put the tie on.

<snip> you could loop them.... just fold them upward before you put the tie on.

Uh.... feeling very stupid right now cause I never ever thought of that! :o Thanks for the great suggestion -- although I'm not so sure a nice, soft loop of hair is going to keep me from stroking! :eyebrows:

Newbie to long hair here, so I apologize for what is probably a stupid question, but how do you do this?

I do this all the time. It's like an asbentminded habit. I'll run my fingers through it, detangle it, twist it into a little beebutt, swish it around in the air... you know, whatever. Sometimes it looks like a palm tree when I wave it around.

I do this all the time! If i'm not playing with my braids, i'm running my fingers through my hair constantly. I'm also compulsive when it comes to looking for split ends. :eye:

It is described in this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=38) article.
