Doesn't it stain?! How do you stop it getting on your skin?
I am building up to doing my first Henna treatment, but I don't want brown skin for week afterwards!

I put a film of shea butter or heavy creme around my hairline and ears. That helps.
But be warned, there will be staining. The good news is it doesn't last for weeks - maybe days. I have had good luck removing henna stains from my skin by exfoliating, soaking a cotton pad in plain white viniger and wiping at the stain and time.
Its not so bad at all really.

Vaseline also works. I don't use it though- not too worried about staining. It only lasts a few days, and can come off if you use lemon juice.

After I put on my henna I got a washcloth soaked in hot water and soap and rub it right off. it doesnt stain if you clean it off right away.

I have used vaseline, veggie glycerine and other resists but I still get some staining. I can lighten it with witch hazel but it seems to come off on its own in a few days. I think it is kind of pretty so I really don't mind it too much.

I find that the general oiliness on my skin in this area is protective, especially because I henna on unwashed hair. After I put the Henna in I wipe off these areas as well, and I don't get any staining. I know the top layer of skin cells on my scalp get stained, because when I scratch my head 3-4 days later, I get orange under my nails, but this is removable by ordinary nail cleaning methods.

I use a tiny drop of Benzol Peroxide facial cream for acne on my forehead and wash it out after it dries. The stain is off completely.

So there are ways to get it off, thats good :) I had visions of mehendi type dark rings around my hairline! I'm not too worried about it on my scalp under my hair, so long as its not all over my face and neck!
Thank you all :)

I apply to my scalp on purpose. It strengthens my new growth and makes my scalp behave really well. You can always avoid wearing a parting for a few days after using henna to avoid showing off an orange scalp. As for your ears and face, wipe immediately and you should be fine. You can always use like someone said shea butter or vaseline on the skin you don't want to stain. It might impact the henna taking to the hair that is coated.

I'm another that just wipes everything off when I'm done applying. It's not on long enough to stain during the application process. Just don't forget to wipe behind your ears! LOL

I wipe after application too - but I still get some staining around my forehead. Yogurt takes it off - but usually I just cleanse my face as usual and after a few days it is gone. It doesn't bother me!!!

For hands I use gloves. After application (which somehow is not a mess in my case :D) I try to clean henna from my ears, forehead or neck but not so much as I need my first grey hair on hair-line properly covered. My scalp does not absorb henna much, my skin is not much orange or red. If any stain, it fades within a day or two.
