View Full Version : Waist-length hair flips up in the back?

So, I have a haircut scheduled for Wednesday. Just a trim, but what really drives me nuts is that the bottom layer will flip up and look weird. I think it's because I tried to stupidly cut that section of my hair myself last year in almost a straight-across cut.

Either way, is there any way I can ask my stylist to cut it so it lays normally? At this point, I don't care if I have to lose a bit of length. I just want it to lay like it should.

Thank you!

I think the trick they use for that problem is "undercutting" where the underlayer is a tad shorter than the overlayer so it tends to curl inward instead of outward. I would guess it is because that underlayer may grow faster than the top, I know mine does.

You have waves, so it could be that you have cut the hair at the point that it naturally curves outward. A good stylist will be able to cut it at just the right spot so that it curls inwards instead :)

Thanks so much, guys! Lesson learned: never chop hair out of frustration. ; )
