I accidentally-on-purpose colored my hair twice today!!!

I colored it once "dark blonde" and it came out red...

...so then I colored it "medium brown" to correct it :(

This is what it turned out to be:

That's such an interesting color. I really like it, at least in that picture. It looks beautiful.

Shiny, pretty, I like it. Weird a blonde color came out red though (or maybe it isn't weird, I don't know much about dye.)

Going lighter at home is a crap shoot. Most lightening needs to be done as a two process. Home is one, thus not all color is stripped and you get monkey butt orange.

I am not sure either but it happens to me once in a while!
I think it may have something to do with the fact that my natural hair color is brown with blond highlights and red undertones...

Lightening your hair will make it go red first then orange, then bright yellow, pale yellow, then white, then disintegrate. Thats just how natural hair colour pigments go.

People usually get the mistaken impression that you can just buy a box of the colour you want to go & voila! In 2 easy steps you have a brand new colour!

Not so. Even hairdressers can get it wrong. Theres a whole science to it. If anyone has any home colouring qs send me a message :)

But Junebride your hair turned out pretty well & looks healthy & shiny too :)

Haha yeah, you would need to use a very very ash blonde colour on natural hair to have any hope of not ending up with orange hair :P, otherwise lighten and then tone, which is not necessary unless you're lightening quite a few shades away from your natural level.

Looks beautiful though, you always have gorgeous hair!

I like the effect but I wonder what it will be like when you wash it.

I used natural instincts and never shampoo...I am a CO washer. So it should not fad much anytime soon ;)
