View Full Version : British (native) Plants for Haircare?

Hey,
I've been wondering this for a while now;
Does anyone know anything about plants native to the UK and how they can be used in hair care?

I can only think of Nettle and Soapwort (I think it's native?)...

I would LOVE to be able to go out and collect plants (responsibly) for hair use...

I think of the Indian herbs/spices and all their uses and I think there must be equivalents in the UK (or even other places) which history has forgotten or things that haven't even been discovered yet.

I hope someone might be able to shed some light or maybe provide a link or name a book :D

Thanks x

Rosemary (not native, but grows readily enough) for clensing.
Blackberries for dye
English mint, scalp wash/stimulant?

Marshmallow root will clean your hair but you need a strong decoction and lots of root. Not worthwhile killing the plants IMO.

I know you specifically asked about plants, but Bob Flowerdew (organic gardening guru) uses clay that he digs from his garden to wash his long hair.
