These are apparently tiny hats, fancy feathery things and little mini veils and sequins ladies put in their hair..

So... anyone wear these.. and if so.. any tips?

These look neat.. but how do they stay put?

They stay put with either a clip, comb or headband that is attached to the fascinator.

I think they look best off to the side of the head.

I love that these have been popular in Ireland and Britain for ages, but they weren't popular in the U.S. until the royal wedding last spring. :)

I have no idea what the royal wedding has to do with it.. but I do know in general Americans are historically all about the casual dress.. these are a bit dressy.. I think!

I just learned of them 15 minutes ago. And I rather like the idea of shiny feathers on my head!

Many of the women who attended the royal wedding wore fascinators (or if they didn't, they wore a full on hat). The day the wedding was shown on t.v., all the ladies at my work were talking about the fascinators and how cute they were. Then they magically appeared in stores soon thereafter. :)

Ah. I didn't watch it. I don't know anyone who did I don't think...

I quite like hair fascinators and didn't need the royal wedding to tell me so. :)

Being a vintage gal I use these to spice up my pinup type outfits from the 40's and 50's. They're fun, flirty, and a great accessory with the right style.

I love them and I want them all! :(

I have a black feather thing that kind of looks like the third one in the first row.
The clip...thing is covered in some satin fabric and has no teeth, so pretty hair friendly. :)

I'm into vintage so, of course, I love these...I've also got some feathered and rhinestone embellished earrings from the 50's that really take a feathered fascinator over the top.

Fasinators are popular in Australia. When you get dressed up to go to the horse races you finish your outfit with a hat or fasinator. Hat elastic is also used to hold them on your hair. You wear them on the opposite side to your part. I usually part in the middle but pull back or part to the side when wearing one. They range in price from a few dollars for the cheap ones to hundreds for a beautiful handmade custom one from a milliner. They are also lovely for other dressy occasions like weddings.

One might want to do some research on how the feathers are harvested. Evidently, in past decades, birds were horribly mutilated in order to fulfill the demand for fancy hats.
