I've tried these and found them completely non damaging. They LOOK damaging, but they never pull a hair out or anything, and they are completely secure. :)

Pretty cool right? :D And in so many different colours, wish I got more whilst I was in VN. Everyone wears them! :p I have about 3-4, and one that is rainbow coloured. I personally think the ones in VN are better than the ones on these pictures. Mine are sort of.. translucent? Letme see if I can get a pic.

I haven't seen ANYONE wear these at all in the UK. Wonder if it's more common in asian countries? Or USA? Anyone tried these or seen them before? Maybe I'll start a new trend on LHC. Mwahaha...

Man, i'm on a thread frenzy today. :p Two in one day? Anyone do that? :p Maybe It's just me, lol.

EDIT:
Pics of mine, I can't really find my rainbow one. :( But I can find a SORTA rainbow one? Meh.

I have seen those somewhere. They look very interesting. :) I think I might buy a few of those when I see them again. (Yes, this crazy girl likes to hoard hair toys that she still can't use. :p)

A friend of mine was wearing one of these the other day! She is from China. I thought it looked really interesting, and asked her about it.

It reminds me of the rip cord from a motorboat :) I'd like to try them.

I don't know why but I just imagine my hair getting tangled in those things.

Sammich
February 24th, 2012, 07:22 AM
Reminds me of a old telephone cord. :D

They're really beautiful to wear in hair, I love the effect it gives. :D I also love the different amount of colours. One of my cousin's from VN has a dark dark blue one... deep sea blue, and it looked so beautiful. :D The same sort of material mine are made from, wow. Collecting these in VN are also so cheap, probably about 3p each? :p (British Pound)

These things do not tangle at all in hair. :D I was surprised using them too, they're so comfy and surprisingly practical. No damage in hair for me.

Looks like the plastic off a keychain from the 80's :D Used to have clip one end a plastic coil and a tag for keys or purse.

Bet it looks great in, any chance of pic with one tied in?

They've been mentioned before. :) They're okay for lower ponytails, I guess, but they've got far too flimsy a hold for a high ponytail (sags like crazy).

Here we go:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=9656&pictureid=127046

They hold high ponies kinda droopy for me too, but still, they have a good hold, they hardly ever fall out, and they look different too. :)

They're in a rage right now in VN, everyone has one, or is wearing one, or has one on their hand as a bracelet thing!

Agreed. They are useless for holding my hair at all I find...

I wouldn't let a plastic hair toy near my hair.

Same here, sammich! :)

Also, what if you put in just a plain nondamaging elastic and then put this over for the effect it gives? I'm sure that would help with the drooping problem. But I haven't had ponytail length hair for about 4 years, so I might be mistaken :P

I've never seen these before. They look cool. It might be good for me, since I have a bad habit of making tight ponytails. I'll have to wait until my hair is a little longer, though.

I'm with Madora on this one. Back away from the hair.

Besides...didn't these used to be keychain holders? I swear they're often on wrists holding keys to cabinets in offices. I hate wearing keys for my job, but coworkers of mine have done this.

hmmmmm.

I also -- almost never -- ponytail my hair as that is not wearing hair in a confined way that prevents tangles, and getting caught in something. Hair is still free to slide against fabric, get caught, and get whipped in wind. I live near Chicago, Illinois. They ain't kiddin' when they say the "windy city".

i have used these...... they are absolutely safe on hair....

I have the same questions about these being like those key chain holders...I remember those would get stretched out so easily and then not go back to their original shape. Maybe they've improved the plastic since then, but I was wondering how well they'd hold if they stretch like I remember.

It does look really cute in the OP's hair, though. I think the other thread I saw that mentioned these was from someone in the UK as well. They don't seem to be trending yet in the US...at least not where I live. :)

thanks for posting pic :) They look great but look more of a youth thing to me. Maybe i should look for some for my nieces. Looks like they type of thing they would sell at claires, will have to go snooping in there tomorrow :)

Kind od reminds me of the keychains made of the same stuff.

I'd be afraid my hair would get wrapped through the cords somehow.

it looks cute but I also think it's a *young* look

plus...with curly hair I foresee a nightmare in getting it back out again

I am very interested but can they hold slippery hair? I am afraid that those would just fall out of my hair.

That's a great idea, silly me. I never thought of that! :D Thank you.

These are so safe on hair, it's unbelievable. I never thought plastic could be safe on hair, but hey... these somehow do it. :p

They hold in slippery hair, I think it's the grip? *Points at my picture* They.. GRIP onto your hair. My hair is slippery. :p

Yeaah. I don't know if it'd work on curly hair... might be a nightmare... :p

They are everywhere and in everyone's hair in Turkey. Maybe it is OK for ponytails but seeing girls that wear this in a high messy bun makes me cringe. I will not let them near my head.

I found these! I bought four of them and of course I took some pictures. They are smaller than the ones OP has but for my ii hair these are enough.

Here they are: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=6532&pictureid=127305

And here I have one holding a pony stub: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=9862&pictureid=127307

I don't have much to say. It's difficult to tell if something causes damage or not because my hair is so short and I haven't done anything like this with it for some time. These didn't snack hairs. That I can tell. I will definitely use them when my hair grows a bit more. :)

They are adorable!! :) It looks so quirky!

They're non damaging in my hair. Not sure about others, perhaps it depends. :)

Where'd you find them?

It looks interesting, beautiful colours. But yeah i keep on having the picture of me trying to pull the thing out of my hair, scarry.... I think this could be more for a little shorter type of hair ? I could see my sisters wearing something like that for a side loose ponytail. But yeah i agree with Madora and Heidi on that one, no way i would dare to put this one in my hair.

Thanks. :) I found them from Glitter (they are in Finland, Norway, Poland and Sweden according to their web site).

Maybe these are better for straight or/and somewhat slippery hair. :hmm: Don't know...

I have some of those, I think they look really cute ^-^ I also like it for ponytails, specially because they don't mark my hair when I remove the pony, unlike other hair ties, and they never damaged my hair ^-^ But I only wear those for ponytails, they don't secure enough for other styles. Also a frind of mine with curlier hair than mine tried one of those and when she tried to take 'em off wasn't preety :run:

I don't know if my hair would tolerate them. Even the silkiest scrunchie sometimes pulls out hairs when I remove it (but they're probably shed hairs).

I agree! It looks like a phone cord to me too! I'll need to keep my eyes open. I haven't seen any around here.

Just to add what I use- I cut the end off a pair of footless tights. They had a run in them so I wasn't going to keep wearing them, plus I'd had them for awhile. Logically it seems absolutely safe and non-damaging, and it was super cheap! :) I've seen those curly plastic ones and I tried one once, it didn't work very well.

I like these things the same reason you can't wear a high ponytail with them :)

I also don't find them to be damaging.

The keychain ones had a bit of metal, but these are all plastic. I've tried it on my 2b/c / m/c / ii hair - low pony works ok. Hi pony or bun droops, but don't mind that for around the house. No hair loss/damage here.
