I'm sorry if this has been covered somewhere else but I haven't been able to find any specifics yet- I've started using baby oil on my hair, so far with great results, but it definitely leaves my hair smelling a bit... babyish? Has anyone experimented with adding scents to their mineral oil? Do you think plain ole essential oils would work?

(I'm staying at a friends house without my shampoo, so I'm a little reluctant to experiment with mixing oils at the moment.)

I never thought of scenting baby oil, that's a great idea! I don't see why EOs wouldn't work, but maybe someone with more experience can chime in. Mmm thinking of all the lovely things I could add now!

I've never used baby oil, but I have mixed EO's with a variety of oils, and there's never been a problem, so I can't see why it wouldn't work with baby oil too. Maybe put some oil into a small container so you can first experiment and don't have to scent the whole amount? And remember to shake before using since the EO's don't necessarily stay mixed evenly with the baby oil. HTH!

I see no reason why not. You could use a fragrance oil or an essential oil and sometimes, there is "no difference" between the two, http://www.pioneerthinking.com/health/aromatherapy/lc_eos.html.

ETA: I use Johnson's Original Baby Oil and the fragrance does not linger in my hair.

ETA:2 Cosmetic mineral oil is classified as natural, http://personalcaretruth.com/2010/11/myths-about-mineral-oil-part-2/ and there are natural fragance oils too, http://www.ausslifespice.com/homemade_essential_oils/fragrance-oils.asp

I don't really know, but I just wanted to say you have very pretty hair!

I use baby oil, and I don't notice the baby scent. I wonder if others notice it on me?

I don't notice the scent either. It's barely even there.

ktani- Thanks for the input, I guess I had some kind of nebulous concern about mixing plant based oils with non-plant based oils or something... Either way, I mixed some jasmine/jojoba essential oil in today and it seems to be working fine.

ladyshep- Thank you very much! I used the baby oil on my hair and on my skin, so the smell is definitely a bit more noticeable- I'm sure if you were just using a few drops on your hair it wouldn't smell at all. :)
