View Full Version : How To Clean My Brush?

I'm going to start using a BBB. I read Madora's article and understand how to keep it clean. It made me think about my other brush. It looks like this (http://www.coveryourhair.com/comb/brushes/goody-boar-ceramic-cusion-brush.html). I know. I probably shouldn't use it, but I can't help it. A comb isn't good enough for me.

DH uses it sometimes (though I'm trying to break that habit). His hair gel dries and makes the brush gross. It looks all linty and nasty. Is there a trick to cleaning a brush like this or should I give up and buy a new one?

I think you could clean it as you would a regular bbb. Might need more than one cleaning.

If there is anything breakable in there, then I'd be sure and handle it carefully while cleansing.

I swish my brushes through shampoo soapy water, rinse and let dry.
For a non-sensitive brush or comb... I might let them soak for awhile.

I think this thing (http://www.sallybeauty.com/HairArt-Brush-Cleaner/SBS-209815,default,pd.html) is a godsend. It makes cleaning bbb so easy. And it's only $1.99!

My mom always told me to run brushes through the dishwasher. >.> I question her logic.

My Mason Pearson came with a brush cleaner that's like a huge toothbrush for my BBB. I fill the sink up with lukewarm water and squirt some clarifying shampoo in it and scrub the brush gently with it. I let it soak for a while, then rinse, and lay facing down on top of a small towel to dry. I try to clean my hair tools once a week.

I use a nail brush (one I don't use for nails!) & toothpicks to slide under the hairs that got caught & pull them out.
