View Full Version : Attempted an infinity bun, ended up with this instead

This morning, I tried to do an infinity bun without ever having read the directions. You know, like you do.

Is there a name for this twisted spiral thing I created?

I put it up like this at 9am and it's still going strong at 5pm - AND I took a 2 hour nap with it in.

I haven't washed my hair since last Tuesday night - I guess it's starting to show in the clumping at the temples and scalp showing through. Bah.

It's my natural color helped out by the flash of the camera! I have, well, variegated hair. :p The Boy tells me there's some underlying red to it, but mostly I just see light brown with shinier highlights. Sometimes I contemplate dyeing to get a little more red, but quite honestly I'm too lazy for the whole dyeing process!

I think I will try to - and post an article - when I figure out how to take pictures of the whole process. Anyone who's done tutorials before is welcome to chime in with advice for me!

Wow! That is one cool looking bun! It looks to me like when you lifted the coil and maybe flipped it the opposite way. I often get a thing shaped like a "6" when I'm doing a Figure 8 bun and I know i'm doing a weird twist when I lift that coil up.

I thought of double infinity, but this describes it much much better! :D

That is odd - they seem to be coming through for other people. I will add links to the pictures underneath in case others have that problem.

Yes, I flipped it at the start because I couldn't figure out how to get a figure 8 otherwise. Then I made a bottom coil, wrapped the remaining length around the base, stuck the stick through and checked in the mirror to find not-an-infinity bun!

I have two cousins with brilliantly red hair - I've always envied those boys. Guess I got a little of it, at least.

Btw, this is one of my "new" chopstick hair sticks, but you can't see it because the bun ate it!

Lady, you have iii hair, while I have ii hair! And it's nearly a week out from being washed, so I think it's extra cooperative. :D

Maybe I'll start a thread asking for updos that show off hair sticks. The only one I can think of to do is a nautilus bun.

I think she ment that your hair is too long for the regular infinity bun / figure 8 bun, that is probably what makes the extra coils :)

Totally different hair length (only about APL here) but I ended up with something like that once, only missing one whole coil. I've never been able to get it quite like this again. Nowhere near as impressive as yours of course, but a similar thing going on.

Sorry to nitpick, but the caduceus is actually a different symbol with two snakes instead of one. Interestingly enough, the caduceus was traditionally associated with thieves!
