I have done it (with the help of people here of course!)!!! My hair is finally wurlier and fuller after 2 nice long SMT's and i am so in love with it!!! SO well it is beatiful, i would like to do some new styles other than a cinnabun. My hair is thick (4.25 ponytail, possibly more if wurlier) and medium strands. I just want some good ol' easy buns to try. Also, my hair is nearly BSL and seems to have gained like 2 inches since my trim only a month and a half ago..CRAZY i even have pics on my phone to prove it...but its dead right now sadly...

Try the cheater's nautilus, there's a tutorial by emmerline76 on youtube here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn4RvwI4J3U). :) Worked great for me at BSL/MBL until I had enough length for a full nautilus.

Yay congrats on getting your curls back!

How about the seashell bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=65935)? If you can do a cinnabun you can do this one. Can you do a lazy wrap bun? I know sometimes that can take much longer hair if its thick.

Among styles I could do at shorter lengths, I like the folded braid (http://public.fotki.com/shewhoknows/longhair/my-styles/folded-braid-flexi8.html), the pencil bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0k3dD4qX34), the double braided bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?p=1985120&#post1985120), and the cheater's easy hairstick bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myyuEIkHJ9o) (you can phase out the starting elastic as your hair gets longer).

You might have to wait a while until you can do a bun properly. I have very thick hair, and had to what until my hair was a bit past waist!

Thick hair is easier to work with if you section it when bunning.

What you might try is this:

1) Detangle hair gently
2) Make a horizontal part from the top of the right ear that goes around the head to the top of the left ear.

3) Take all the hair above the part and coil it gently in a bun and pin it with hairpins (not bobbypins).

4) Take the remaining hair, divide in two sections. Braid each section loosely and secure with a hair friendly elastic.

5) Take one braid and wind it clockwise around the bun, pinning as you go.

6) Take the other braid and wind it counterclockwise around the bun.

Voila..a variation on the Cameo bun.

If you don't like braids, then you could simple divide each section in two, twine the sections together, and proceed to wind around the bun as described.

Thanks for the suggestions, i know i cannot do the pencil bun or double braided bun, my hair just won't fit into the styles, i guess i need more length...my folded bun is pathetic because my BSL hair looks a bit past shoulder length in a braid so...still need more length for that..i will try the cheaters hairstick bun

I have heard of sectioning, but never thought it was this easy! Thank you, i am off to try this!

Good point...when all else fails, a nice looped ponytail works! I hate my thick hair sometimes, but it is a gift when it is nice, i bet you know how that goes right?:)

Well, some of my curls are back, i am kinda celebrating, i think my hair hates silk amino acids as a protein because the stuff i was using that made it fall straight had this in it, or maybe it just hates protein in general, stupid hair. The mousse i used to try to scrunch my curls made them stay for about 30 mins, now today, it is straightish, the mousse had amino acids, so i might have to re wash or re wet and just air dry. But even like this, I can't do a nice looking lazy wrap bun, it doesnt loop right because the single loop eats up so much length with the thickness and all...oh well. I will try the seashell bun thanks

Just tried this, loop too wide, could not fit it over the rest of my hair...i will keep at it though, maybe i am doing it wrong...

Oval bun! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysyq-w96AWg my current go-to for days when I want a bun that will STAY, and look reliably tidy.

Yay! Now, to find some amish pins...i tried the seashel bun and failer horribly AND lost a bobby pin somewhere in my hair...they never hold for me, even when they are stretched into a very wide v, oh well. I just realized i don't own amish pins, umm i think i need to order some...lol

oh, yeah, you need something sturdier than bobby pins for SURE. Goody actually has some that I really like... they're BIG sturdy bobby pins, I think called "wave bobby slides" or something like that. They look like oversized bobby pins, but have a wave pattern on top.

They hold my hair, unlike the wimpy little bobby pins I was trying to use before.

my local army store carries them but I have not seen them for sale elsewhere.

This one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiGTXkUhFKE) might be nice too (just stop when Torrin shows the knotted pony, and then stick sticks or a fork in the knot that's created).

Oooo! I will have to look them up online! Like i need ANOTHER exucse to buy stuff for my hair, lol! Yeah, i think my hair likes to eat bobby pins, i actually thought they were holiding until i had a curtain of hair fall in my face, oh and 10 mins later i felt a piece of metal, so THATS were that went...yeah, just gotta love that. I will certainly look into those giant pins, they sound so much better!

I don't know whats wrong with my hair! it reaches to the top of my bra strap, but all the hairstyles don't work! this is ticking me off! My hair SHOULD be long enough, but it isn't listening....
