I have seen loads of beautiful waves on here that were created from braids. I am just wondering, what is your favorite braid? I find that dutch braids give me nice waves, but the thing is since you can't braid it down to the very ends of your hair, my ends are always stick straight and then I have deep waves. It just doesn't look right and I don't know how to fix that.

I always had really good luck with two french braids. Start with damp hair of course. Tight braids where you take in only small pieces of hair make neat small bumpy waves, looser french braids with thicker pieces of hair make a casual looking wave.

I like french braids, I usually do two or three on damp hair. If Im doing them with the intent of getting waves, and Im either going to bed or staying at home, I braid all the way to the bottom, even though little bits stick out and stuff... I think Im the only one who does that though... :D Though Ive read some people saying that they use a foam curler on the tail to make waves/curls...

Misspixie, I think a lot depends on where you want the waves to begin.

If you do a lace crown braid around your head, your waves will start higher up.

To tidy up the ends of the braids (I usually did 2 English plaits) I would braid down 3/4ths of the way, then divide the hair into 5 sections and use a large foam roller on each section. The curlers were left in overnight. Then I gently brushed out the curls and ended up with something like this:

I like the waves I get with rope braids the best.

Even though I have lots of stick-out ends, I braid down as close to the very end as I can. Then I use one of those stretchy, fluffy little ties that they sell for children to secure it. Or I wrap a piece of wet ribbin around the ends, then secure over it with a poly-band, but since the ribbon protects the hair, you could even use a small rubber band.

Take a look at this, it's how Torrin braids and curls the ends so you don't have stick straight ends:

The waves in my signature picture were created by making two French braids when my hair was 90-95% dry. I made sure that the braids were as close to my center part as possible in order to make them start higher up on my head and braided snugly as far down to the ends as possible, ignoring any rebellious spiky pieces. This is my favorite way of making braid waves.

I haven't tried this method, but if you're looking for EXTRA-wavy waves you could try the bandana waves from Rapunzel's Resource. http://rapunzelsresource.wordpress.com/2011/06/02/video-how-to-set-your-hair-with-bandanas/

Two dutch braids work well for me and I just tie them up high enough so that it makes it's own wave at the end (but then I have wavy hair).
