Probably there is a thread about this, but somehow i can't find.

Anyway how do you self trim your hair ? I need to cut maybe an inch or so from my ends, as they are dry and unhealthy looking ( cutted last time almoust 3 years ago ) and i am afread that if i go to the hairdresser she will cut more than i want. I am getting married in jun and i want my hair to be as long as it is possible at this stage, as part of my hairdo will be open curls.

I would be really happy and gratefull if you would tell me how you do it! Thank you

I think how you do it depends on what shape you want (layers? straight hem? u-shaped? V-shaped?) or if you just want to 'dust' or 'micro-trim' :)

Oh i never thought about the possibilities. So no layers, big no for V shape. I think straight hem or slightly u shape would be ok. I just want to cut the most dry ends off and keep as much of length as possible and still make sure that my hair isn't looking odd from behind.. Does this make any sence ?

I never heard about dust or micro-trim before. I am sorry i feel i'm a little noob here :D

A lot of people here use Feye's self-trim (http://feyeselftrim.livejournal.com/) method. I think the same information for a straight-across the bottom is cross-posted in this LHC article (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=198).

Dusting or micro-trimming would be if you trimmed only a very small amount (maybe even less than 1/2").

ETA: Here's the LHC article (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=199) for a U-shape.
Also, if you don't already have them, please get a pair of hair-cutting shears that you use only for your hair. Cutting with dull blades could be counterproductive to improving the condition of your ends. ;)

ETA2: I'm not super experienced at self-trimming but did find this video helpful to go along with the previous links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9Erf49Eyxc

Mora, thank you so much. Those are realy helpfull and look easy ! I do have a hair-cutting shears, but i think i will just in case buy a new pair as i can't be 100% sure that my fiance hasn't been cutting anything else except hair and his own beard, and maybe even hide new ones from him :)
