I am HORRIBLE at doing my hair. It never ever looks as awesome as it does in the hair tutorials I watch. The best I can do is a basic braid. Well I was reading another thread and someone said when they were learning the french braid they found it easier to do it dutch. So I youtubed dutch braids and tried it! It didn't turn out half bad for my first attempt! I've NEVER been able to do a french braid, but doing it this way was MUCH easier! :happydance:

Great going! Its very true that a different approach sometimes can prove the floodgate to understanding the French braiding technique. The French Dutch braid is a LOT easier to make than the French English braid!

It turned out very neat!
I can do a French braid but can't do a Dutch braid. :(

That looks great!!

I have yet to master even the simplest of braids *sigh* :(

I will keep trying... Atleast I can look at your braid and think "maybe one day that will be me" :)

That's awesome!! I for one must be weird, I find the english way SO much easier. I have tried to do it dutch and it just confuses me. I like the way the dutch looks better though!!

Will keep trying. :D

I can do a French braid but can't do a Dutch braid. :(

I only learned how to do a Dutch braid this year (and it was a hideous mess lol). I figured out the French braid when I was 8... just by looking at someone else's!

I think Dutch is harder, so I find it interesting that many find French more difficult!

Wow, that looks great! Colour me jealous, I can't figure out how to do the dutch or french braid...

that looks great!
I was the opposite way to you I'd been trying to do a Dutch French braid and just couldn't, once someone showed me the English French Braid it all fell into place.

Looks great!!! I am so jealous! I can't braid at all lol! I have a weird pinkie finger that I cut the tendons at 10 years old trying to carve a pumpkin. It sticks straight out and gets in the way when I try to braid. Sooooo frustrating. I just stick with a plain ole pony!

Very nice! Your hair is so thick and shiny as well. I tried this braid once and ended up in a horrible mess, but I can french braid with no problem. Now I have new inspiration.

Beautiful! I love your shine! I wish I could do a french braid too. I'm bad at coordination behind my head. :D

Looks great! I will try this soon. I can french braid, but it never looks really good, so might have better luck with this one.

Thank you all so much for your kind comments! I keep taking it down and redoing it today just to keep practicing  I showed it off to everyone at work today and they didn't share in my excitement. LOL. So I'm glad I can share it will all of you! :hooched:

It's funny how different we all when it comes to braids! I did my stepmom's hair today with this braid and I found it much more difficult to do it on her hair since I was holding it differently than I do when I do it to myself. :?

I'm going to go youtube dutch braids right now! I cannot for the life of me do a french braid, so maybe this will be easier. :D
Yours looks lovely by the way! So thick and shiny. :)

Good job! It turned out beautiful and your braid is nice and thick.

I actually had the same epiphany just earlier this week. I couldn't get the French braid for the life of me. Then I figured since I usually braid "under" instead of over, maybe I should try Dutch instead. I was actually able to do it, however it didn't come out nearly as nice as yours, so I didn't bother posting...

It looks very, very good! I would not even tell it was your first try :) Congratulations :) And making updos is about practice in a huge part, talent is, as always, just about 20% so keep trying :)
